Ryan was extremely helpful! I brought my car in for a quick fix before a short road trip towards the end of the week. He got it done right away and basically saved my weekend!
After the car was returned, backup camera and dash stopped working. Did a quick google search and was able to fix it in an hour. Full Inspection also did not include OBD reading. Would not return.
Blown out a tire at on the freeway and was in a desperate situation ryan hooked me up and got me back on the street! Solid guy very friendly and knowledgeable about more then just my tire gave me advice on other possible issues. Definitely coming back. Thanks ryan!!!
Ryan was such a great help with my Chevy Malibu. I went in with the assumption that it was the alternator that was bad. Ryan took the time to diagnose it and found out that the person that installed the starter messed up And did not attach the wiring properly. Ryan caught this mistake and went above and beyond with the notes in the paperwork so that I can go back to the other Mechanic and address the situation. Ryan was there by himself today, but yet he still took the time to listen and understand, and took his time with finding the problem with the car and took his time fixing it. I would definitely recommend this place

Shane and his crew are top notch. I’ve taken numerous company vehicles here for repair so I was somewhat familiar with the way they do business. BUT I didn’t understand the quality of their work until I brought my personal vehicle in for repair and they were on point. NO BS, NO RUNAROUND, NO UNNECESSARY ADD-ONS. Straight to the point. Straight to Business. And very quick. Had a whole list of things I needed repaired, it was done in a day or so. The way a Quality mechanic business should be run.
This is not only a family-owned business, but it is family-run as well. That's the "secret sauce" that mixes in to create great service. No praise is too high for Shane and his two sons, who treated my car as if they were working on their own. His sons worked "in stereo" yesterday on both sides, replacing my front end and it's not an exaggeration to say that it feels and sounds now like I'm driving a new car. He was kind enough not to get my hopes up too high, but I was flabbergasted when I picked it up from their shop. It's astonishing how quiet it drives now and it's comforting to know that I'll be driving down the highway soon, on the long drive home for the holidays, with comfort and peace of mind. I reached out via email to request a second opinion on a quote from another shop in town that was adamant I needed a costly repair or my car wouldn’t function properly. Shane called me within the hour and took the time to go over the other shop’s itemized quote with me. He explained that the issues they pointed out were mostly cosmetic and might not even need to be addressed—but that he’d need to inspect the car to be sure.
I brought my car in the next day, and within an hour of dropping it off, Shane called to let me know that there was absolutely no need for a $6,000 repair. I went in because my Subaru had a misfiring cylinder. I’d had the same issue before and knew it likely required an ignition coil replacement. Shane at Davis Auto Works was professional, and his team quickly diagnosed the problem. However, the quote he gave me was much higher than what I’d paid at a dealership around a year earlier for the exact same service.
After checking Subaru’s own parts pricing (about 40% less than shane quoted) and showing Shane my previous receipt for the full service, he agreed to match it—but only once I pushed back. While I appreciated the adjustment, the initial markup felt dishonest, and I decided to take my business elswhere. I ended up going to another Davis mechanic who did the job for about 40% less than Shane’s original quote.
Good enough service, but be wary of price gouging.
Needed an oil change done asap and after being denied at other shops for being too busy, I stopped by Davis Auto Works and met with Shane who was able to get me in and out quicker than I could believe! Thank you again Shane for finding a way to get me in on short notice!
My husband and I were on our way to the Sierras for a family vacation when our brakes locked up. We were stressed and disappointed that our entire trip was in jeopardy. Fortunately Shane was able to get us in right away. He performed a brake inspection, diagnosed the problem, order the parts and remarkably we were back on the road safely within a few hours. What could have been a disaster turned into a small bump in the road on the way to our family vacation. We are so grateful to Shane and his staff, and the car has been running great ever since.
Took my diesel in for a smog repair. They were up front that they weren’t diesel techs, but took a look anyway. Didn’t charge me a penny even after a lot of troubleshooting and work. If you’re looking for a mechanic shop with integrity, this is the place. Shane is a class act.
i was wary because of some of the reviews but after my visit i am so confused by the bad reviews! all of the employees, especially shane, were so helpful and kind (i felt safe as a young female student which can be rare in this situation) they changed my brake pads and rotors for half the price that i was offered at a different place in davis and did it in under 2 hours. best service i have received at an auto shop!
The older guy working at the front was incredibly condescending and rude to the point where I just decided to get my keys back and take my car elsewhere. I've been a repeat customer for years (because the location is close to downtown) and the same guy is often pretty patronizing (personally I get misogynistic vibes) but usually I just bear it. I've finally decided to take my business to other places in town. Typically this place tries to upsell and overcharge compared to other auto shops too, so I recommend just finding somewhere else
Was on a road trip when some warning lights came in. We needed to know if it was safe to keep moving down the road. Andrew was so kind and professional. He scanned for codes and very quickly gave us the peace of mind to continue our trip. We appreciate you.
Be cautious when reading the 5-star reviews. they seem overly generic and repetitive, which raises concerns about their authenticity. In our experience, we came in for a simple brake pad replacement, but were met with a long list of unnecessary recommendations clearly aimed at upselling. It's important to stay alert and question their suggestions. Do yourself a favor and consider taking your vehicle elsewhere for a more honest review.
The price for an oil change here is significantly higher compared to other shops in Davis. Unfortunately, the service was also very unwelcoming. When I politely asked if there was a student discount due to the high cost, I was abruptly told, “I must ask you to leave. I want you to leave,” despite maintaining a respectful tone throughout. The employee even raised his voice and told me never to return. This kind of customer service is deeply disappointing and will only hold the store’s reputation in the long run.
Had a couple bolts in my vehicle with the heads ripped off. After calling around NO one in town wanted to help except Davis Auto Works.
They could have drilled the bolts out and charged more for the labor, but instead they went the simplest route and twisted them out with some locking pliers. Plus, they helped repair the damage I incurred by getting the bolts stuck in there in the first place for a very reasonable price.
I had to get some routine maintenance done on my car, as well as an oil change. I filled out the form they have on their website and within an hour or so Shane reached out and we were able to schedule a time that worked great for my car to come in. Got what I needed done and got the car back the next day. Reasonable prices and great customer service. Highly recommend.
