What clients say about Roche Harbor Resort in Friday Harbor (WA)
-
This is quite possibly the most idyllic resort in the state of Washington. The history is fascinating, the location is unbeatable and the available restaurants and small store will cover all of your basic needs. The grounds are meticulously maintained and beautiful at any time of the year (though the spring and mid-summer are the most colorful). This is an obvious wedding destination, so it can be quite busy from May to October. Make reservations and plan ahead. The town of Friday Harbor is about 20-25 minutes away and offers pretty much anything else you could need, including many more restaurant options. The drive between Roche Harbor and Friday Harbor is beautiful any time of year and is also just worth it to get a better "feel" of San Juan Island. Don't debate, just visit!

We stayed 3 nights at the McMillin Suite and it was truly amazing. The room was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated with stunning views. Everything was perfect — we will definitely be back!

My wife and I got married at Roche Harbor in September, and everything about our wedding was wonderful. It's a breathtaking venue; the on-site team is absolutely on it (we didn't need to hire a wedding planner and everything ran smoothly); their recommended vendors were delightful to work with; and our guests were raving about the food (rehearsal dinner, hors d'ouvres, and dinner were all independently top-notch). For a vacation / getaway, it's also spectacular. Life moves slower on San Juan Island, and that's especially true at Roche. A+ atmosphere. My wife and I plan on going back often.

⭐ “Beautiful venue with great ambience and delicious food. The staff is helpful and made our event smooth and memorable. Special thanks to Rajinder Ji for his outstanding coordination and warm hospitality.”

What a great resort! We really enjoyed our stay. The staff is amazing, Remy, Mitch, Jaden and Isaac are great! Emily in the spa is awesome! We really enjoyed the views and amenities.

We stayed one Friday night in the Hotel de Haro in a room with a view for about $200, which was very reasonable. We were there for a wedding and had great communication before our stay — we received texts, emails, and even a phone call about our reservation. At night, the lights make the whole place feel extra magical, and the grounds are so well maintained — it honestly felt like something out of a movie. We loved the marina view, the friendly staff, and the cozy touch of coffee and donuts in the lobby. It felt very homey, and we slept great. The only downsides were that our room floor was noticeably uneven and slanted, making it tricky to set up our infant’s pack and play safely. Also, while the shared bathroom wasn’t an issue (especially since our room had its own sink and mirror), both our sink and the shared one didn’t drain well. Oh and the walls are thin. Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay and such a charming, memorable spot!

For $400+ a night guests shouldn't have to sleep on uncomfortable 100% polyester sheets that are more like what you'd find at a cheap roadside motel. Stayed in one of the condos that has minimal noise abatement. Upstairs neighbors very noisy clomping around. Plus at these prices checkout is 11 am. No excuse for that.

This was nice turn around point from 25 mile bike ride. Beautiful landscape with the water across every corner and view of the resort.

Roche Harbor sets the bar for excellence. The service is impeccable. We've been coming for decades and always plan a stop on our boating trip.

We just came and ate at the restaurant and it was excellent and then we met some friends that moured at the docks here the marina is very nice really big and open so it's really easy for people with big boats to pull in and out of the docks and the place is just kept up so nice it's like you're in a time capsule You're going to love it

Unbelievable charm and character!! We wanted to escape the Texas August Heat and this turned out to be the best 5 days we have ever had. Room/Suite was perfect!! Quarryman Hall suite #247! Breakfast water front at the marina, wonderful staff, great area, lots of nice walking and hiking. Do not miss a dinner at Vinny's in FRIDAY HARBOR! We took Delta to SEA/TAC, Lyft to Kenmore Air at Lake Union, float plane to Roche Harbor and planned a flight from FRIDAY HARBOR to Boeing Field and transfer to SEA/TAC....BUT it rained. Pamela at Roche Harbor drove us to the Ferry, 2 hours to Anacordtes, 2 hours to SEATAC and we are on our way back to DFW!!! If you are looking for quaint, well staffed and water front San Juan Island experience, ROCHE HARBOR is the place!!!!

Roche Harbor Resort is a must-see destination if you’re visiting the island. Steeped in charm and history, it offers stunning waterfront views, beautifully maintained grounds, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while. Whether you’re exploring the marina, strolling through the gardens, or enjoying the restaurants and shops, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. It’s the kind of place that captures the essence of island life relaxing, scenic, and unforgettable.

After a flawless clearing of customs on the new app… and a humpback whale show, Roche Harbor Marina is a gorgeous and enormous Marina. The staff is so incredibly helpful you feel like you’re at the Ritz Carlton. Clear welcoming VHF staff, greeting and mooring assistance, “Is there any garbage I can take for you?”, have you been here before? “Let me tell you about some of the services”. Uniforms, bright young and older staff. The tennis is great. Felt guilty that we played singles on our court while 16 people in the same space played pickleball. The little town is quaint and charming in an eerily pleasant villish vibe. Restaurants groceries coffee shops spa pool tennis and pickleball, rental cars…all while Boating.

Excellent place to stay on the boat! Expect a family friendly experience, with great service and some luxury options. Don’t skip Roche Harbor if you are in the San Juan’s on the boat!

I’ve been a loyal customer of Roche Harbor Resort for the past nine years. From the friendly staff at the customer service front desk to the hardworking marina dock hands and dedicated housekeeping team, everyone I’ve encountered has been incredibly professional and goes above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction. I highly recommend them all and would rate them all a perfect 10. My experiences at Roche Harbor Resort have been consistently exceptional, and I eagerly anticipate returning year after year. Keep up the excellent work!||Robert D. (T&T Maru)

It is a pretty little place.|Very busy. Very noisy if in Quarryman. Upstairs neighbors sounded like they were re arranging furniture all night. Then in the morning, they got up early to enjoy the sounds of trucks unloading and employees talking on speakerphone in the center with me. After they finished a quick cup of coffee, they must have decided to rearrange the outdoor chairs and table for an hour or so.||Sarcasm aside, I can see how some very social people might enjoy this place. I did not. I guess I fell for the "peacful" or "relaxing" bit. Where we were was anything but. As a matter of fact, this was one of the least relaxing places I've ever stayed. Couldn't sleep due to noise. Trucks come right outside around 5 AM and unload. Nothing is included and there's no cooking in the quarryman rooms, so you're buying way overpriced meals (with poor service that forgot my food TWICE).|McMillans had excellent food, appropriately priced.||There was a wedding one of the evenings, so perhaps that really put a damper on things, but it really was noisy and underwhelming throughout.||Just a nice, extraordinarily overpriced, super noisy room right next to vehicles, listening to conversations outside on the street, purchasing crappy food (to be fair, just the café qualifies as crappy, but it's the only breakfast option) as part of a "resort" that's completely open to the public. Wtf makes this a resort?

Possibly the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in in one of the nicest scenic areas ever. They made the wedding I was attending magical for my daughter-in-law. Ask for John Wayne suite if it's available. Only drawback is that there is no air conditioning or fridge in the room.

As guest that stayed in the condos, it was beautiful. The whole place was perfect! The view was phenomenal! When we needed extra towels, we did not have to wait long before someone arrived to take care of us. However, my friends had a wedding there, which is the reason why we stayed. The wedding was beautiful. The surroundings made everything magical. The chapel and mausoleum were something out of a fairytale. But the reception was poorly executed. The wait staff were caught eating the food that my friends paid for. And this was discovered only because the kitchen door swung wide open and guests saw staff were in the kitchen stuffing their faces. Which the food was not theirs to eat! And makes complete sense as to why there was not enough of certain foods served or things that should have been served but was not. The food was for the guests at the wedding! And there was a major food allergy that was brought up long before the wedding day, noted in the contract and was overlooked. The groom had caught that there were many dishes made with the food allergy included, he had to have the chef make him gravy that didn't include the food allergy. Regardless, the groom ended up spending his wedding night in the bathroom. Food allergies need to be taken seriously. Overlooked and it could cost someone their life or put them in the hospital.

As the Owner of Latta Photography - Wedding and Elopement Photography, I could not recommend this venue more. From the front desk, staff to the chefs and the golf cart chauffeurs, the Roche Harbor Resort is worth visiting. Even more so if you are considering having your wedding here. Stina and Celina were a wonderful help in regards to planning and coordination. Friendly, prompt and overall fabulous to work with. The catering? Best wedding meal I have ever tasted! Don’t want to walk? They have gold cart chauffeurs for you and your wedding guests. The chapel is next to the bridal suite, which in turn is next to the reception pavilion. Everything is conveniently located and well thought out. The bridal suite is spacious with stunning views of the marina. The Mausoleum is located at the entrance to the resort and transportation to and from is offered for wedding guests. Lime-Kiln Lighthouse and State Park is a 15-20 minutes away drive and worth every minute! If it is staffed, you can go inside to the top of the lighthouse! Overall, I would recommend this resort to anyone considering a visit. Whether you’re searching for a quiet, coastal retreat or for an epic wedding venue, Roche Harbor Resort has everything you need.

We love staying at Roche Harbor Resort! This place is truly so special and the staff is so attentive and caring about every little detail. Love that there’s a general store, the coffee stand and breakfast is amazing, and we ate at madrona every night! Highly recommend the cottages, feels like our own home away from home!

This review is for the Macmillan Room restaurant, not the hotel. This would be the best food on the island, but it is way too salty. Order something they can refrain from salting and request a salt shaker if you need it. Best wine list on the island, excellent service, friendly.

Beautiful waterfront location with everything you need if you arrive by land or sea. We stayed in the lagoon condos which were clen and spacious. Even though it is 9 miles/15 minute drive from the island's main town & ferry dock (Friday Harbor) everything you need is on-sight, including 3 restaurants, grocery store, laundry.

Amazing views and perfect for celebrations We went for our anniversary trip and it was just perfect. Watching the sunset at marina while having drinks was the best part of our trip. We did not know this earlier but they play some music and do announcements everyday around sunset, so if you are coming for a celebration give your name for this :) The afterglow massage was also amazing, we got a couples massage and it was very relaxing. But the staff could be nicer I feel, we felt we were treated differently because of our race. Since we had massage booked at 10, we asked if we can check out by 11:30 because I wanted to change clothes after massage, but we were outright told no since the room had another booking the next day. Okay we accepted it and while we were downstairs for check out, a white guy asked if he could do late check out, the receptionist checked his room and even for his room there was another booking but she told it’s okay if he checks out by noon! I don’t want to name the receptionist here, but one such bad incident can ruin your overall experience. Nevertheless I have learnt that I should not let such things affect me, and it also doesn’t change the fact that Roche Harbor is an amazing property, I will definitely visit here again but I hope I don’t have to deal with the same receptionist.

We stayed in the historic Hotel de Haro. It was a very enjoyable experience. I felt like we got the best of history and modern comfort. The room we were in shared a bathroom but the facilities were well kept and we hardly noticed that others were sharing with us. Best location for "striking the colors" in the evening.

Fabulous destination for a weekend (or weekday, if you're retired :) Adventure. If you can swing it, reserve one of the spacious studios in the old MacMillan house, up on the hill. We stayed in Room #161 and had a stupendous view of the harbor and our very own deck. Magical. Restaurant was great, considering how remote this enclave is, on the NW tip of San Juan Island. Prime Rib was tender and delicious, would have been 5 Stars if not for the excessively salty rub (we did the Pan Seared Finish preparation).

I was here with my wife to attend a wedding. It is an interesting place with plusses and minuses, especially in the offseason:||(1) As a wedding venue it was great. Food was great. Service was stellar. Staff were on their game. The setting was beautiful.|(2) The setting is idyllic, wrapping around a harbor with beautiful boats.|(3) Some of the units are story book cute.|(4) Wifi was good.||But we were in one of the "historic" units. Our was a two bedroom, one bath unit with a kitchen and living room in a large grassy area over the harbor. They all look to be the same size, so I assume other units are the same, but I am not sure.||While the unit had been reasonably well restored and was very functional, it had a ridiculously soft back-killer bed. We came to call it the "great concavity". (Readers of "Infinite Jest" may get the joke.) There was only 1-2 outlets per room, which meant unplugging lights to plug in a CPAP or a computer. Not OK. The bathroom was cramped. And while they advertised it as "pet friendly", charging $100 to bring a cat strikes me as just a bit excessive. My bad for not asking about that in advance.||Finally, off season dining options here are VERY limited. Which is a drag given how isolated the resort is from the rest of Island civilization.||Would I stay here again? Sure, but with modest expectations.

We stayed from a Tuesday-Friday as we had our destination wedding on the resort. The location and resort speak for itself. It is stunning. We and our 70 guests could not say enough wonderful things about the experience. We had people fly in from all over the country and most made it a point to let us know that everything was amazing-from the resort food, views, rooms, location and one of- if not the best- weddings they ever attended. The customer service is above and beyond. || We cannot express our gratitude enough for the Roche Harbor Weddings and Events team-Ashley, Stina, Cilena, and Laura.|These women are amazing and really go above and beyond to make your day (in our case -weekend) an incredible experience. It was the little touches provided that made the greatest impact. The follow up from start to finish and after our wedding was met with urgency and care. The team works with empathy and seem to truly love what they do. ||A last shoutout to our bartenders-Krissy and Nic. They were the most personable, fun people to have working for our day. They made us and our guests feel at home and we were so grateful for them. Thank you Roche!
