PNW Paradise! Had an amazing time here. Fire wood is provided, with safe fire pits, BBQ grills, and picnic area. The service was fantastic! 10/10 will absolutely go again. This is a great place for a couple or a family.
Best Resort on the Island!
Secluded, and it feels very private and upscale.
When you arrive, you'll immediately start to relax. You'll want to stay for multiple days.
Clean, clean, clean. You don't feel like anyone has been here before. The property and living area look and feel brand new.
Waterfront cabins are spacious, and well kept. Gas fireplace, with plenty of places to rest and sit. Large refrigerator, coffee maker, dishwasher sink, everything you have at home.
There is even an outdoor grill for BBQ.
Very Quiet, and relaxing. Amazing views right on the water. I was there on a very blustery day, and the weather was calm at Mitchell Bay.
They have a small coffee bar that opens at 8am. Make sure you check out the delicious cinnamon rolls.
You'll never turn the TV on as you are going to want to take in the beauty of the property.

This is the most unique destination around coastal Virginia. Snug Harbor on Chincoteague is one of those rare places where the island’s quiet magic gathers itself into a single, unforgettable scene. Tucked along the tranquil waters facing Assateague, it feels like stepping into a postcard—one painted in soft marsh greens, shimmering blues, and the warm gold of coastal sunlight. I loved my island experience, this hotel gives you the VIP treatment. Great customer service.
Beautiful location with Beautiful clen cabins! Very peaceful and well kept. The staff were so friendly with tons of recommendations of places to go on the island. They also give a great military discount! Will definitely return!
Staff is great. Cabin one has a broken gas fireplace. Staff were not able to fix it during our stay there. Stay was beautiful. Kayaking and being able to make your own fire was fun. Cabin was rustic with some modern touches. Bedrooms get cold easy so keep those wall heaters on
We (my mother, 10-yo son, and I) stayed in a 1-bedroom cabin for 3 nights. It was the perfect accommodation for us and we could have spent the whole time on the resort grounds.
The cabin was even better than I expected. The fully stocked kitchen was super handy. We ate breakfast in every morning and a couple of dinners. The bedroom had a comfy bed and the armoire provided plenty of space for our belongings. The pull-out couch was pretty comfortable too. The shower has shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They also provide plenty of high quality towels.
The staff were friendly and a great source of information. The lobby shop and coffee shop were nice resources. There is free drip coffee available during the coffee shop open hours. The same high quality coffee is provided in the cabin for brewing as well. We took advantage of the kayaks and canoe. My son was obsessed with spotting the harbor seal(s) while we paddled around the bay.
It is a short 15 minute or less drive to anywhere you want to go on the island. We explored English camp, American camp, cattle point, sculpture park, and much more. The Snug Harbor resort was a wonderful place to relax before and after our excursions.
My son wants to come back next year and I hope to return soon as well.
Gorgeous, quiet little resort on the Roche Harbor side of the island. Cabins were modern and clean, each with a fully stocked propane BBQ.
The communal areas were great, with yard games, a small sandy beach, fire pits (which we couldn't use because of a county burn ban), crab cooking pots, and watercraft rentals.
The coffee at the little cafe was hit or miss. One employee had knowledge of how to operate the espresso machine, the other screamed my steamed milk into cottage cheese which she poured over one of the most miserably pulled shots I've ever experienced. The pastries were nice though!
Next year, because this is now the MIL's summer vacation spot for the family, I might request to make my own Latte instead.
Overall a great experience!
Wonderful resort. The cabin rooms were so comfortable and spacious. The lush grounds were peaceful. The family owners and staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. Highly recommend for a weekend away. Friday Harbor has locally owned shops, and the farmer's market is great!
Photos don’t do this place justice — it’s a beautiful, peaceful getaway far from the bustle of Friday Harbor. It’s on the pricier side, but that’s to be expected on the island. The cabins themselves are fantastic: new, super clean, and with stunning views. Highly recommend if you want a quiet, comfortable stay.
Wonderful place! Stayed two nights and definitely want to get back. Beautiful location and it was so nice and quiet here which was lovely. They have a few kayaks free for guests, which I used and had a great paddle around the bay. Even saw otters! Cabin was very cozy and comfortable with a nice view. Only drawback was the windows weren't very clean
This was a great place to stay foe Father's day! The kids (4 &6) had a great time playing at the sand beach, collecting shells. They saw jellyfish. Crabs, birds. The island by itself is amazing, but this place was a perfect stay.
We really loved this spot! Quiet and clean with plenty of space. My kids loved playing in the small access space to the water. Janice and team were super sweet and helpful.
I think this place is a best bet if you boat in and dock as it is not close to anything if you are driving (had to drive the 17min back to Friday Harbor for groceries).
We had an amazing experience on San Juan! The location is great. Very quiet with ample views of Mitchell Bay! The cabin we stayed in was great as well.
The fire pits, outdoor games, and kayaks are all things I would recommend you take advantage of!
This place was magical. The beautiful surroundings, friendly and helpful staff, outdoor activities, and tastefully decorated cabins. My whole family loved it and we highly recommend this wonderful resort.
Beautiful landscape and cabins, inside and out. The staff was very welcoming. The cabins are fully stocked with all dishes/pans and a bbq you’d need for cooking and dining. They also have movies and games available for free to bring up to your cabins and fire pits by the water. We went down to the cafe for a mocha and ate our breakfast on the deck over looking the harbor every morning. The birds sing all day, harbor seals float around the docks and the water sparkles. Snug Harbor Resort is an oasis, we’ll be back!
My family (myself, husband, 11 year old and 5 year old) stayed three nights in a two bedroom king cabin over spring break and had the best time! The cabin was spotless, everything seemed new and was in great condition, and the grounds are beautifully maintained and so peaceful. We loved the views from every room of the cabin and being a bit set back from the slightly busier waterfront lawn area. They have a cute little gift shop with a variety of foods and snacks, including ingredients for s'mores, and movies and games to borrow, which my kids loved. The coffee shop on site was a hit too and so nice to just walk down in the mornings. The staff is super nice and always had smiles and positive, helpful attitudes. We also loved not being right in town and instead surrounded by nature, but only gorgeous 15 minute drive away. I would highly, highly recommend Snug Harbor to anyone interested in visiting the San Juan Islands!
This is one of the best places (if not THE best) we've ever stayed. The location couldn't be better. It feels tucked away but is only a short drive to either Friday Harbor or Roche Harbor. Mitchell Bay is so beautiful and peaceful, I consider selling everything and buying one of the nearby properties.
More specific to the resort, the grounds are exceedingly well kept and the cabins/suites exude quality. According to Google, Snug Harbor is a 2.5 star property. I would disagree vehemently, and the quality is only rivaled by the service. We've encountered nothing but warmth and friendliness from every staff member. This place almost doesn't seem real.
I actually don't really want to write this review. I will willingly recommend places I think are great. Anything that I find better than that, I'd like to keep a secret. I would prefer to keep this place a secret, but that wouldn't be fair to Snug Harbor.
Amazing, beautiful, perfect for a relaxing getaway. Great views from all of the rooms and the rooms themselves are so cozy! Everything was picture perfect. The little coffee shop had some good coffee and pastries too! Will most definitely be coming back!
Had a great weekend stay at Snug Harbor Resort! Little touches really make this place, like beautifully maintained landscaping, impressively well-stocked kitchens (cutlery, large assortment of dishes, tools, etc), two fire pits with a generous amount of wood available, and a board game/movie library. Wish we had visited in the summer time to experience the kayaks and SUPs! The waterfront cabins aren't the most private since they're right on the walkway, but we didn't mind since the shades helped. We didn't get to try the pastries at the cafe (not sure why they weren't stocked) but the espresso was good and the cabins also come with a drip machine and grounds. Great place for couples, families, and group trips!
As soon as I walked to the lobby from my car I knew I made a great choice. Snug Harbor was the perfect place for a beautiful relaxing vacation. Our cabin was spacious and had everything we needed. We were surrounded by gorgeous views of the harbor. I highly recommend Snug Harbor if you are looking for a place to stay. It's worth every penny.
I brought my fiancee to San Juan Island to propose. We stayed at Snug Harbor Resort, and were absolutely blown away. The experience could not have been better.
The location is incredible and one of the most peaceful and idyllic places I’ve been. The cabins are nice, private, well maintained, and very clean. Going for a stroll in the morning down to the dock and the coffee shop was one of our favorite things.
After I proposed, we came back to the cabin and the staff had gone above and beyond, arranging flowers I’d delivered, making us a congratulatory sign with our names, and putting candles, chocolate, and wine in our cabin (thank you Qili!).
This was an unforgettable and incredible experience. If you’re thinking about booking here, don’t hesitate, just do it!
I have been going to Friday Harbor for over 10 years and have never stayed here, I reserved a one room waterfront cabin for my girlfriend and I for her birthday weekend and we were not disappointed! Beautiful location, the cabins are clean and cozy and the staff were extremely friendly! We will definitely be making this an annual trip and am so pleased with the entire experience!
Simply Amazing! My better half brought me here for Valentine's Day! We couldn't have had a better experience! Cabins are beautiful and cozy. I loved the kitchen to as we were able to cook if we wanted. Staff was amazing, the grounds were beautiful. Centrally located so everything that we explored was easy to access. Spent evenings walking the beach and it was simply peaceful and serene. We will definitely be back and we will be definitely be recommending to everyone! Thank you for such a beautiful place to unwind and relax.
Best vacation. I love this place! It was clean, well stocked and super cozy. So peaceful and relaxing. We stayed in a 1 bedroom water view cabin. The kitchen table is positioned perfectly to get comfy and look at the water while also watching the gas fire. The kitchen was stocked with essentials if you want to cook. The bathroom was stocked with nice towels and the shower floor was made of river rock pebbles giving it a woodsy yet spa like feel. Bed was comfy and the private deck with picnic table was perfect for taking in the views and drinking wine. We will definitely be back!
I would highly recommend staying at Snug Harbor Resort! We loved our stay in a one of the waterfront suites. The rooms were extremely clean, the private deck was an amazing place to eat and enjoy the views, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook.
My family and I had an amazing time at the resort. Eventhough the resort was fully booked, everything was so calm and relaxing. My cabin was facing the ocean an amazing view. The cabins had a full kitchen and had all the necessary items for my stay. The cabin was very clean, I really appreciate it that. Will be staying again in the future.
Awesome! Awesome! AWESOME! Did I say awesome? Definitely recommend this place! Cabins are cozy and offer both fire heater and a heat/ac wall unit. Complimentary use of their kayaks is a great feature! All cabins have a grill and an outdoor space! The resort also has their own coffee shop!
