Had a wonderful experience getting my vehicle serviced and now I won't go anywhere else. They were easy to talk to and very helpful. Not super pushy just giving you the facts. Customer service was asweome in a way that you can't get with the larger chains. I suggest continuing to support this asweome family owned business as on plan on doing.

Ashley and her team are fantastic! I work for a small family owned service & repair company myself so exceptional customer service is very important to me. University Place Auto Service was understanding of my situation and went above and beyond to find a solution that worked for my needs. Good customer service and quality work seems to be a lost art these days, but not when working with University Place Auto Service. I will certainly recommend my friends, family, and colleagues to University Place Auto Service.

This place is truly amazing. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with smiles and nothing but kind words. The lobby is clean, organized, and very professional, yet still incredibly welcoming. Everyone there is soft-spoken, kind, nurturing, and very knowledgeable. They truly take the time to get you the best price possible—no overcharging and no trying to sell you things you don’t need. And just when you think it couldn’t get any better, you look around the corner and see the cutest little dog ever—I believe his name is Max. 🐶 That alone made my day. I absolutely love this place and highly recommend it.

This business deserves at least 10 stars but all I get to do on this site is 5! I have taken our cars there the past few years and have always been happy with the quality care they provide. It's a family business that I highly recommend checking out.

If I could give zero stars I would. They were friendly yet I still left feeling ripped off. We took our van here for an A/C repair thinking it was going to be a good experience based upon prior reviews. Originally we had an appointment scheduled with Honda where we usually take our van but they charged a pretty hefty diagnosis fee. So I decided to call this place and the gal explained their charges which by comparison to the dealership was way cheaper. She said it may just need a charge. I told her my husband thinks it's the compressor. I cancelled our appointment with the dealership and took our van here. They did the diagnostic, told us it needed a new compressor and they needed to order the part but they are certain that would fix the problem because we weren't getting any cold air. The part arrived and they so called fixed the problem after their complete diagnostic. So we picked up our van and it was about mid 70s that day, so we thought maybe it just takes some time to feel the cooler air?? We let a couple days go by but the A/C still wasn't cold at all. We called, they said bring it back. The guy said took the van into the shop area and said he's going to charge it some more because that's probably the problem, but NOPE. So then he tells my husband now he noticed there was a crack in some metal line and the whole metal line had to be replaced?! Why wasn't this discovered from the beginning???? So we asked if they can do the work, they couldn't order the part. He said it was the whole metal line that needs to be replaced. We left extremely upset, I was livid. There was no gesture to refund our money or some of it. I don't even think they replaced the air compressor that we paid almost a total of $1500 for the entire repair, parts, labor if they even did any labor. So guess what, we wound up taking it to the dealership after all. We sucked up our frustration and anger, and had to pay the dealership their charge for diagnostic charge now and then I explained how we had taken it elsewhere and they said they put in a new compressor and the metal lines were cracked. The guy said what metal lines? I said I don't know that's what I was told. He began explaining about other things and gave me the look like I had just been ripped off. I told him I regret even going elsewhere and we should have just came to Honda to begin with. End result, we paid the diagnostic fee with the dealership and they fixed the problem, replacing the valves and finding that the compressor relay wasn't working properly, so they replaced the relay, recharged the system and the system was low. This was the following day, and I don't know much about this stuff but if the UP auto place charged it both times why was it low? Again probably because they didn't really do any work! Or if they did, the auto tech didn't know what he was doing! BOTTOM LINE IS THIS.... This place in UP didn't even gesture to refund us any money or anything. I don't even think they honestly replaced any part. And I think either some or all of their good reviews are fake! I would NOT recommend them to anyone because they were supposed to have done a diagnostic to begin with so how come that so called cracked metal line wasn't discovered the first time around??? What a waste of my time and money. People don't have time to be getting ripped off from businesses that claim to do a job and it seems doubtful later on. I attached the invoice from the dealership showing that we went to have our A/C repaired after this shop was not successful in doing so, yet they charged us for a problem that wasn't even fixed at all. I should dispute my charges.

Very quick diagnosis of my car's problem after another shop took two tries (and expenses) but didn't fix the problem. Quick diagnosis from UP Auto and problem fixed in a few hours. I am now a satisfied customer who will now be using UP Radiator Auto Service as my go-to car service destination.

Had a never ending P0401 egr bad code..Matt worked with me and let me exchange the one I had bought and installed myself from Otileys. Put 2 egr valves on from Orileys. Learned Orileys EGR valves are not good. Matt replaced with a Toyota part and fixed it!. Take your car to Matt. He's a great mechanic!

I had a great experience with this shop. The team was professional, honest, and efficient. They diagnosed the issue quickly, explained everything clearly, and didn’t try to upsell unnecessary work. My car runs perfectly now, and the pricing was very fair for the quality of service. It’s hard to find a mechanic you can trust—these guys definitely earned mine. Highly recommend!

Reply—you may not charge for the diagnostic if the repair is done, but that is the issue in itself.first….companies that charge for a diagnostic have that same policy. The issue is that I pay for a diagnostic, then you quote me an inflated price worse than everyone else. And the end result is me wasting money and headed somewhere else. This is why it’s a scam. If I already know the issue, you should be able to give me a general idea of cost so I can compare it and not be forced to spend money on a diagnostic. Wanted to get a general idea of what an alternator replacement would cost…..couldn’t get a quote without them diagnosing and looking at the vehicle. Here is the issue—-I already had it diagnosed and I know it is the alternator…..so why do I need to pay you 50-100 just for you to let me know the same thing I already know…..and then you will quote me a price? I called Firestone Meineke amd they quoted me over the phone a general idea of the cost…..which means your company should be able to do the same. Charging diagnosis fees when the issue is already known is a rip off and a scam to get extra money

Took one of my work vehicles there for check engine light and some other diagnostics. Opted for the more important fix and was going to come back for other fix. Came back a month later and had another issue for them to look into and they called me a couple hours later saying they won’t work on it based on the codes they saw and suggested to go to a dealership shop.. But they never told me the any issue or the codes they saw. Honestly felt like I was just being turned away from service with the no explanation. Also had them look into a window not working on the first trip and they replaced the motor but that wasn’t what needed to happen. They didn’t charge me for it but like I paid for diagnostic services and they didn’t even attempt to find the problem, they just replaced the motor hoping that was the issue.. 3 stars because I appreciated they didn’t charge me for their lack of diagnosing an issue and they were always super kind (until they just handed me my key and told me sent me away to a different shop) Dunno, I wanted to give them my money, they didn’t want it.

I have been coming here for many years and I am always happy with the service. I have never had a reliable mechanic before I found this place. Car trouble is stressful, but Ashely and Matt make it bearable! We also come here for all our maintenance things and upkeep. I highly recommend them!

Been taking my Toyota Avalon here for years and don't plan on going anywhere else anytime soon. The service (both customer and on the vehicle) is always outstanding. Finding forthright and reliable vehicle service is invaluable, so I'm always glad to have this shop around when my car needs something.

This shop Rocks!!! I've had a clunk in my front end going on 3 yrs now... I threw all new parts into my car diy at home, no dice... still clunked:/ i dropped my car off since I worked across the street. The nicest prettiest reception lady out front shot me a text within an hr and Apparently it was just some loose FRAME bolts! They fixed and tightened my bolts NO CHARGE!!!THESEguys are honest and on point. I GOT EM DOUNUTS! For being an honest mechanic u guys have my business and recommendations for LIFE THANK YOU GUYS! :)

Very appreciative of university place auto service. I had a bad experience with another auto shop in town And University Place fixed all their screw ups explained everything to me that they did wrong which made a high pitch wine that it wasn't doing when I took it into the other place university Pl Auto found the problem fixed it informed me I needed back brakes which I did the other place didn't even tell me that And had a wonderful experience with university place auto service And didn't have to put a new water pump on for $700 according to the other place, trying to rip me off good thing I didn't do it and went to university place auto Service to get everything all straightened out Thanks again, scott

These guys are a car repair business that every neighborhood needs. They have earned my trust many times over by looking at my cars from the customer‘s perspective and advising me thus. If they can find a less expensive solution, they will recommend it. If they think it makes more sense to take your car to the dealership, or a tire shop, they will suggest it. They are my first stop for routine maintenance and car issues.

I was able to have my issue diagnosed and repaired the same day with a fair price and clear communication throughout the process. Our household had the unfortunate event of both cars being down the day after Thanksgiving 2024. I immediately texted U.P Auto Service and was told that we can drop off the cars on Sunday night in front of the shop and they'd be looked at first thing Monday morning. Ashley and Matt quickly responded as to what the problems were and price. We had one car out of the shop by Monday night, and the other by Tuesday. And that was only because I had not responded for half a day on giving the green light for the work to be done on one of the cars. The original reason we brought the Honda in for actually was masking a different issue that could've resulted in more serious repairs if it had not been discovered by Matt and the team. They are honest with their work, and will tell you why you do or don't need services that the "professionals" at the Honda dealership tell you are needed. Good experiences with UP Family Auto solidify why I won't have to look for other shops for future car services. Thank you Matt, Ashley, and rest of the UP Family Auto team!

Fantastic service. We have been taking our car and van in for years. Car maintenance is great. Van maintenance extraordinary. It is a beater with some parts unavailable but they keep it running and dependable. Completely trust that they will do only necessary repairs and at a fair price.

Always a pleasure to work with them. They give honest quotes, are trustworthy, and perform great work every time I've come through. Highly recommended as I feel they are the best mechanic shop in the Tacoma UP area. Also have the cutest furry mascot outside that hangs out with you while your getting work done.
