I have been to Black Dog Salvage countless times and love how they repurpose and reuse so many things. As someone who works in the sustainable lifestyle space it means a lot, and my cousin is a famous vintage dealer in Long Island so we do a lot in the sector. I also love that my dog is always loved and welcomed, as well as my kids. Until today. Upstairs there is a piano that I’ve seen kids and adults use. My kids decided today they wanted to play, so I let them, I noticed quickly they were being more heavy handed than they should and went to stop them. Mind you there is no sign not to use it. But a blonde woman on staff who I had never seen before decided to admonish my kids FOR ME. I asked her if the piano was not to be used, she snapped at me and said no. I tried to apologize and say I had seen others use it so I didn’t know. She ignored me and got snippy with my kids to get away. I tried to address her and say I was removing them, but she again ignored me and tried to PHYSICALLY SHUT THE PIANO ON MY KIDS HANDS! I am still enraged thinking about it. I told her that she had no right to do such a thing to my kids and she just said “I didn’t touch them”. Yeah just trying to slam a cover on their hands! We immediately left and I will not return again with my kids and would recommend others with young kids not to visit unless they train staff to interact properly with children. No matter how much I’ve spent there or how much I usually enjoy the staff this has completely ruined the place for me and thus why the two stars.

We came in on a whim because we both wanted to stop here while in Roanoke. Absolutely loved this place. They had all kinds of stuff to buy and look. Don't let prices fool ya, these are salvaged items that can be used as is or made up how you want. Great place to get things. We are gonna use them whenever we are able to build a place.

What a fun little place to look around! They have the most interesting things.

I recently stopped here on a road trip from Boston to Florida. I was a little surprised at the sheer size and inventory in the building - they literally have a little bit of everything. I only had about an hour to spend here and it was not nearly enough as I could have spent at least half a day looking around - truly enjoyed my experience here. The employees are absolutely awesome - super friendly and helpful. Other reviewers have stated that the prices are too high but this is a legitimate salvage business that incurs significant costs to harvest inventory so the prices reflect the true market value of the items they sell. This is not a flea market and if you come here looking for flea market prices, then you should pass. However, if you are looking for very specific or unique items and willing to pay fair market value for the item, then this is the place for you. Lastly, the store is absolutely immaculate for a salvage business, It is extremely well organized and very clean. One would expect a lot of dust and dirt because it is salvage but it is not - pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and organization of the store. If you visit, I recommend at least 3 to 4 hours if you are a slow browser and at least 1.5 to 2 hours if you are looking for something specific. This place is LOADED with inventory so there's a ton to look at and I will be returning on my next road trip.

This place is fun to visit! There are stalls for local artists, antiques and an art gallery. There is hand-hewn, irregular-shaped lumber slabs suitable for custom dining room tables -- and they take orders for custom work. Then there are hundreds of hard-to-find windows, doors, mantels, door knobs, light fixtures, stained glass, drawer pulls and etc. From the assortment of folk art, garden sculptures and crafts to the gift shop and, yes, the black dog, this place is a must-see.

The place is super eclectic and fun to walk around. Just make sure y’all check underneath their price tags to make sure they aren’t upcharging you for DOLLAR TREE PRODUCTS.

Just an awesome experience every time we go. Something different each time, nothing but quality, product and great items. If you're looking to rehab something or put a classic touch on a home referb.

very cool to look around at, guess u have to ask yourself what am i looking for? fun experience yes, but these prices are not competitive and will not move. no clue where they get their items from, the 2nd location we made it to the other day, very cool but odd. we are building a home, looking for unique items to add to the home but well, as i said it is great to look at but buying, prices are not that great. so great for looking. but buying not so good.

I bought a few t-shirts from BDS and I’m very pleased. Shipping was very reasonable and super fast. They even sent me a little bonus of coasters. Thank you for the nice gesture. Will buy from them again soon. P S. My wife and I love their show. Bruce / Nada Hayward CA.

If you’re into overhyped ego trips and empty flexes, you’ve found the right place. The owners love to throw around their so-called “influence” like it’s a VIP pass to respect, but spoiler alert: no one’s impressed. Hard pass on ever supporting this business ever again.

Had a good time wandering around Black Dog Salvage this afternoon. This place has everything from doors, sinks, light globes to toys, furniture & really nice art. It is organized neatly, but it is a good afternoon to find your way around. A friend had recommended me to go there & she was right. I just took a quick trip around today & will bring my family back sometime. The staff is very friendly, professional & knowledgeable. I ended up buying an antique pair of glasses there. I will definitely come back.

Loved the Series, so we just had to travel to Roanoake from Minnesota to see Mike and the Shop! What a great place for all things salvage, unique creations by the team and the local artist items! Mike in the yard was such a great help with a great attitude. It was so fun to meet everyone! Thank you for taking the time to greet us! Definitely a must stop!

Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke, Virginia, is an absolute gem! My wife and I were traveling from Western Massachusetts to Florida for a winter getaway and stumbled upon this incredible spot while searching for interesting places to visit in the Roanoke area. The night before our visit, we decided to check out some episodes of their TV show to get a feel for what the place was like, and we were already excited. But let me tell you—seeing it in person far exceeded our expectations! We were thrilled to even spot a couple of items we remembered from the show, which made the experience even more special. From the moment we walked in, we were blown away by the unique charm and creativity of this architectural salvage and reuse company. It’s so much more than just a salvage yard—it’s a treasure trove of history, art, and inspiration. The space is filled with an eclectic mix of reclaimed architectural pieces, vintage finds, and quirky "doodads" and "whatchamacallits" that you never knew you needed but suddenly can’t live without. What really stood out to us was the support for local artists, whose work is beautifully displayed throughout the store. It’s clear that Black Dog Salvage is not just a business but a community hub that celebrates creativity and sustainability. We spent hours exploring the aisles, marveling at the craftsmanship and imagining the stories behind each piece. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the overall welcoming atmosphere. If you’re passing through Roanoke or even planning a trip specifically to visit, Black Dog Salvage is a must-see. It’s a perfect blend of history, art, and fun—highly recommend stopping in! We left with unique souvenirs and unforgettable memories. Thank you, Black Dog Salvage, for making our trip even more special!

If I could give them more stars I would. I ordered this beautiful teakwood tree and it arrived very quick. I was worried about it getting ship and broken but let me tell you they wrapped it very well with burlap sacks and peanut Styrofoam. I am so happy with it and so happy to say they take pride in what you order. Thank you so much Black Dog Salvage. Definitely recommend them. I will definitely buy from them again

Wow! I love the skill and creativity of this place. It’s refreshing to be here after living in the DC area where new developments feature mass produced designs with materials that lack essence. Most things here are hand made with elemental materials of wood, glass and metals or reused – leaving a feeling of connection and harmony with man and nature. Really lovely to experience this very playful and creative place. Hope to be back again and take some items home!

Very cool spot. We enjoyed wandering around and checking out every part of Black Dog Salvage. Definitely worth stopping by and checking out if you are in Roanoke.

Had to check the #3 thing to do in Roanoke during a recent visit. Huge place with lots of indoor space that was perfect for a sweltering summer day. Wandering is encouraged! Interesting mix of vendor goods set beside salvaged goods. As many have noted, this is not a place to find a deal, but it's a great place to find something unique. And if you love the idea of making something cool, but don't have the skills, there are lots of neat constructions. Great place for ideas. Don't miss the fine art upstairs!

Pretty exciting visit today at this very famous Black Dog Salvage, that hit the world stage with the TV show couple of years ago. There's a part of the store with only vintage and salvage stuff (toys, furniture, light fixtures, kitchen accessories, etc.) as well as a part with refurbished and finished goods. They have here also the loft located on the 2nd floor with some high price paintings. It's definitely an interesting spot to visit and look around for all these goods stored here, which many of them are very unique and have priceless value. However to afford them is a different thing.

We were extremely excited about visiting Black Dog Salvage after watching the TV show. What we forgot to account for was that with a TV show comes TV show prices. They had a lot of availability from doors, to iron works, bathroom fixtures, light fixtures, stain glass windows, any kind of wood you would want, and furnishings. However the price tag was so large that despite the items being unique (can find some items at other shops for much cheaper) they became impractical to purchased when you could find a new item for hundreds of dollars less, looking and functioning much better. You just can’t beat the amount of stuff BDS has. Which again should be cause for lower pricing. They do have a section for vendors to sell their products and the selection varies from vendor to vendor as well as the price. It is a beautiful shop and the employees are friendly. Just to walk around and explore is fun enough.

Very neat place with all kinds of salvaged items that perks a person's imagination of what all could be done each item. If you stop at the right day/time you could get to enjoy some live music and a beer or two. Definitely worth a stop even if you are not crafty and just looking for something to do.

You could really spend all day here! I admit I haven't watched the TV show, but the store was really fun to walk through. I almost wish I was in the middle of a renovation - this would be a great place to source items for your home.

I really enjoyed my visit here for the first time. It must be a dream location for people who love restoration of any kind. There's so much going on here. You could visit over a hundred times and you'll still notice something you haven't seen before. I highly recommend this place for those in search of new projects. They also have Black Dog Salvage merchandise such as jars of apple butter, pickles, t shirts, etc. Parking is located on the side of the building. Entrances are also on the side and front of the building.

Went with the family and we all found something we loved! Awesome place to get things or to get ideas. The staff was awesome. We probably spent 3 hours looking around, and I know we didn’t see everything. Definitely recommend!

I wish I had more time to spend here. With my 8-month-old son, I could not stay too long, but I was grateful that there was enough room in the aisles for me to walk around with my son in his stroller. In addition, there was a changing table in the restroom. Bonus! The staff was very kind to me.

Hip and chill local coffee shop serving Counter Culture Coffee. My wife and I came here with friends on our first visit to Roanoke and loved it! Great menu with a really nice baked good selection. They also serve craft beer and have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend of you Love indecent local coffee shops with specialty coffee.
