My elderly father was visiting from out of town and his car AC went out and came to Spikes for freon. My father asked for help with purchasing the correct one and help installing it. The freon alone was $50, for installation the total would have been $195. My father declined the installation. After getting home we tried to do the freon ourselves however it was the wrong kind or size? So my father went down to O'Reilly auto parts and they helped him purchase the right kind and installed it for him for a total of $48. It is very unfortunate when we try to support our local stores when the competition is so much easier to work with.
Our daughter was out of town when her truck was injured. Usually i would fix it myself, but would have had to drive 4 hours. Reasonable price to get her home. Thank you for saving me a trip! And to the review below me (Josh) do you have a lab that checked the oil viscosity to determine it was correct? 🤣
My husband and I have always loved Spikes and I hate judging them by their employees.. but sometimes you just have to say something.. My car is an Acura and all my dashes were going crazy nuts and I asked the front desk person at Spikes if they could check my battery because I thought that was the issue and he told me NO because he knew it wasn't my battery. I said can you please at least check and see and he said No because he knew it wasn't... WELL GUESS WHAT IT WAS MY BATTERY!! Sad that a woman that knows nothing about cars knows a little more than some at the front desk at a mechanic shop...
Do not use this mechanic shop! This is the most incompetent mechanic I have ever encountered in my life. I’ve taken my vehicle to them for two things and they were incompetent with handling both.
The first was a brake job. They only did half the brakes and didn’t tell me. When the brakes kept squeaking and I took it back, they told me they needed to do the other end of the vehicle. I have never heard of a mechanic diagnosing and only doing half of a brake job when all four brakes needed to be changed!
The most recent encounter was for a check engine light. They tried to suggest that the Kwik Kar put the wrong oil in the truck a week before and wanted to charge me to do a whole new oil change again on brand new oil. When I called Kwik Kar they confirmed that they did put the correct oil in the truck, which is also on the windshield sticker. Their response was well I guess there’s just nothing more to do. When I pushed back and said, “That’s not acceptable I brought the vehicle to a mechanic to diagnose and fix the problem”, the response was, “Well it might be the oil pump and that’s gonna cost $1500.” I got charged $100 and cursed out. Don’t take your car to these people, go somewhere else with some competent mechanics. I will be taking my truck to my mechanic I trust in Granbury.
My wife’s Tahoe broke down in Glen Rose while visiting my daughter. This shop did a great job of getting it fixed and getting her on her way. It was a fairly simple repair and a shop with less integrity could have taken advantage of the situation. You guys saved us. Thank you.
Very unfriendly staff, another non-Christian establishment. If I wanted to be rudely accused of something, have my truck keys dropped on the counter in front of me and then walk out the door without a goodbye I would’ve never gotten divorced! 1 star Lol
Car,was towed here. I said it was probably the alternator. They said it was the battery and replaced it. Picked car up. Two days later, engine died on 30, very dangerous situation. It WAS the alternator. Called and left message complaining, never heard back. Waste if time and money, and put me in dangerous situation. Will never go back.
We have always done business with spikes. They know what they are doing. Family owned and orientated. I've known spoke myself since I was very little. Honest and his brother the mechanic is the best I've ever seen or known. Even when he has been busy has taken the time out to help me figure out simple things I couldn't. Love you guys. You are the best .
Bruce the guy at the front desk was really rude he acted Like he didn’t want be there or help you he had horrible customer service skills since my visit I’ve spoke with other people who had a similar experience with him we all agreed that’s probably his personality but it’s just horrible. My vehicle was having issues so I dropped it off about 10 minutes later I get a phone call and they’re telling me my car has no issues that they can’t work on if there’s nothing wrong with it and if it’s not making any noise. so I stated I would be back to pick up my vehicle and not to do any work on it but when I got there they had already started doing work on my vehicle and they’re trying to charge me for things that they claim they did but I didn’t authorize any repairs so I asked them for my money back And to take off anything that they added to my vehicle or did because I didn’t authorize it And I restated if nothings wrong with my vehicle then why are you doing all this other stuff and trying charging me specially after I told you not to do anything to my vehicle.long story short I got my money and left but it was a horrible experience. I only went to them because I live in Glen Rose and it was my day off but I should’ve just stuck with the shop I use in Granbury.
Needed new brake pads on my 2016 Ford F350. They were efficient, in and out in about 3 hours. They were nice guys and they charged a very fair price. I highly recommend them. Thanks guys!!
I went to this auto shop because I was told they were the closest shop that could fix catalytic converters, I went and they ran diagnosis which said that they needed to replace 2 of the 3, but once I came to pick it up the whole story was changed and I was overcharged for only fixing 1 of the 3. They were extremely rude when my father and I started questioning the price. They definitely tried to pull wool over my eyes because I’m a young woman, but I can see clear as day that I will never be back to this auto shop.
Needs more space to serve their customers. Way to crowded for a mechanic place. Plus, need more help, it seems. Long wait to be taken care of or waited on with the service your looking to get done by them, or pay for.
We wound up going here twice during our trip to dinosaur valley. First was to get freon in our ac, then to fix a power window motor. Both times they got us in and out. They said they are used to dealing with travelers and get you fixed quick. Almost took longer to get there from the campsite than for them to do repairs! Lol my husband tipped them $20 and told them to get a coke on him 😁 highly reccomend Spike's!!! 💙
I've had quite a few bad experiences with other auto repair shops, so I honestly didn't have my hopes up when I first walked in here. My expectations have been far exceeded!!! These guys are absolute experts in their field. Both times I've taken my car in and explained what the problems/symptoms were, they knew right off the bat what was wrong with it without even running diagnostics. They've charged a fair price each time. They're also courteous and do a great job explaining what's going on to their customers whenever a question is brought up. The shop is smaller than most others I've seen; I would love to see this place expand somehow. If you live in Glen Rose and need a place to take your car in for repairs, this is without a doubt the place you should take it to!
Five stars all the way. We were broke down 5 miles south on Hwy 67 with a blown wheel bearing on the fifth wheel RV. Took the wheel off and ran with one on that side and hobbled in. Phoned ahead and they said they would get us going. Well they certainly did. The owner and the mechanic were amazing. Got there at 4:30 pm on a Wednesday. Left there at 6 with repair done. Parts and labor less than $200.
Y'ALL.... these guys took an emergency call from me on Monday morning, with a dead Jeep in the middle of Dinosaur Valley State Park, and got me diagnosed and up and running within 2 hours of arriving at the shop. 5 star service, expertise, everything. If youre stuck in Glen Rose, call SPIKE'S!
