I had a terrible experience with Pope Automotive in Lubbock. I brought my vehicle in to have the A/C serviced and recharged. They charged me a significant amount, and when I got home, I checked it and found it was completely empty—no cold air at all. Clearly, nothing was actually fixed. I went back to confront them, and instead of taking responsibility, they told me I’d have to pay again to have it serviced. They claimed it might be an electrical issue—but how would that make the refrigerant disappear? That points to a leak, not an electrical problem. If they had used dye or done a proper pressure test the first time, they would’ve found the issue. This place is a rip-off with awful customer service. I absolutely do not recommend bringing your vehicle here. Save your money and go somewhere that knows what they’re doing and actually stands by their work.

I recently took my car into Pope Auto to address a couple of ongoing issues that I'd been having with the front driver side breaks/axel of my vehicle. The team there quickly looked everything over and found a bearing that needed to be replaced. Additionally I asked them to look the rest car over and in doing so they discovered that my serpentine belt was cracked and about to fail. They got both of those things taken care of for me pretty fast compared to what I've experience at other mechanics in town. After driving the vehicle a couple of days I noticed that the breaks were still making a bit of noise. This was not directly related to noise caused by the worn out bearing, so I thought they may have missed it, so I took it back. When looking that the breaks more specifically. They realized that the hub was bent which was causing issues with the breaking system. I couldn't think of anything that has happened to the car that would have resulted in a bent hub, but stranger things have happened I'm sure. They said there was a small chance the hub could have been bent when the bearings were replaced. I expected to have another bill for this repair and additional repairs to the breaks, but since they missed it the first time and couldn't 100% prove it wasn't caused by the previous repair, they took care of the hub and the break issue completely free of charge. I was blown away that they didn't charge me for at least the breaks. It's good doing business with a shop who has integrity and will take responsibility for an issue and take care of the customer even if they aren't 100% certain it was their fault.

I wanna give a huge shoutout to Randy Pope and his team for getting my 2008 Cadillac SRX repaired on such short notice and they did an amazing job. I was in town for business from Austin for the week when my starter went out. Not being familiar with the area and not knowing any mechanics, I just went with the first one I picked. The tow truck driver and I arrived at Pope well after hours and we thought we were just gonna drop the car off and I'd just walk to my hotel. Well, the owner came out to see what was happening. Oddly enough, he was doing some late-night work when we arrived and quickly started my invoice. Afterwards, he was gracious enough to give me a lift to my hotel. After a good day of work on my starter and water pump, my car was ready for the 6-hour drive back to Austin. The mechanics did an amazing job and, if I need anymore car work while in Lubbock, I'll take my car to Pope Automotive. Thank you, gentlemen.

Pope Automotive is thoroughly impressive with their quick service, great communication, and honest work. I have sent 3 of vehicles there including Chevrolet, Mercedes, and VW (Not once did they say they can't work on it.). My Silverado was not shifting properly and 2 other shops said I need the transmission rebuilt. I took it to Pope and turns out it was just a shorted wire! I will continue to solely use Pope Automotive in the future. If you need auto work done, you won't be disappointed with Pope.

I have been using Pope Automotive for 10 years now when i need something done. I have a college student and you know they don't take care of their vehicle's most of the time, well she hit a speed bump really hard and she broke her transmission pan we had to get the car towed on a friday afternoon which they called me friday before close to let me know what the problem was but will be on Monday when it will be fixed. they are very communicative and called me to let me know the price and to also let me know they were going to make sure that was all the damaged that she had done unfortunately it was more damaged then what we thought we had to get an alignment and she bent her front rim so they needed to rotate the rims to the back. I was very pleased that it only took them a day and 1/2 to complete the job. We all know right now if you take your vehicle to the shop there is 1 week to 3 week waiting periods because everyone is so backed up. Very reasonable prices.

We are extremely satisfied with Pope Automotive. Rick (owner) replaced our overhead light in the cabin of our car. It was done in a timely manner and he was such a nice man. He’s always willing to check and air up our tires when needed. Definitely 5 stars.

I took my car asking for my headlight (that would come on, only sometimes) and my crooked steering wheel to be fixed (it was simply put in at the wrong angle last time it was serviced), but 2 days later, I was told it would be $450 to fix my horn that also didn’t work. After politely declining the charge/work, I picked up my car and was charged $86 for them to tell me that my horn didn’t work... with no work done to it. Further, there was no indication that the diagnostic fee would be almost $90. They also negligently left equipment in my vehicle... and it was off-brand equipment at that. They also were not welcoming or kind. Terrible place & scam of a business. Do not go here.

I have discovered the most proud place regarding service. They are thorough, honest and don't play regarding the vehicles that they handle. They solely rely on verbal praise from their clients. They are the REAL pros on auto care.

I took my car into Pope Automotive for my 100k mile checkup and to look into other issues with my car, like the transmission and the brakes. I took my car in at 5:30pm on a Wednesday thinking that I could get it back by the next week. Fortunately, they said that they could have my car back to my by Friday evening, and they followed through on that promise. They checked everything that I asked and said that my transmission was fine and that I didn't need new brake pads. They performed the check and cleaned the carbon from my air-intake and didn't charge me an arm and a leg. I was very happy with my service here and plan on used Pope Automotive in the future.

Was charged 50dollars for 1 light bulb, and still didn't fix what I asked, they blamed my auto lights for not seeing my back lights not working properly, very unprofessional. Took my vehicle to Williams break and tune. They are the one's who told me that I was over charged for a light. I will never bring any vehicle ever again. I highly recommend William's Brake and Tune. Fare prices and they don't blame my vehicle for not finding the real problem.

I went here to get a tune up and a oil change which for both they charged me $299, not even a few weeks later my car needs 2qts of oil and the coolant levels on my car were completely depleated. I feel like I paid money for nothing, after an oil change, I shouldn’t be required to fill 2 qts of oil. I’m very displeased with this service and for their price they couldn’t even ensure my car was running properly and with a tune up you would think they would check to make sure everything was in good order.

If there was a negative start rating. I would choose it. But I’m stuck giving them one completely underserved star. Dropped my car off at 930 am...told them what the problem was, waited all day for a call with some kind of solution...430 pm (7 hours later) they call me telling me literally EXACTLY what I already told them the problem was, no joke word for word what I described. No work done, not even a solution, just info on the problem I already described, as if I hadn’t already told them or something. So I told them just forget it I’ll come pick up my car. AND THEY CHARGED ME 90 DOLLARS!! 90 dollars just to tell me what I already told them...COMPLETE RIP OFF!!! The biggest waste of time and money I have ever had!!! Absolute crooks.

Charge for doing nothing, great place if you just want to loose a few bucks. Asked to check whether or not my AC compressor was working, they proceeded to do a Freon flush and charged me $90+. The process is automatic and takes about 20min, one only has to hook up the right ends. Nothing got fixed and only confirmed that indeed, it was broken. Took it to another place to get the compressor replaced and only paid $60, compressor was under warranty.

Interesting story. I just moved to Lubbock so I came to Pope after reading the reviews that it was such a "fair" place. The previous mechanic I went to couldn't fix the bulb in my headlight, was to busy. That's when I went to Pope, hoping they could fix the bulb. My car, u actually have to loosen some of the bumper and wheel well to reach the bulb. I saw it on YouTube. So I knew it was a pain to do. However, I'm no dummy. So when the guy at the desk at Pope told me that the cost would be $345 to fix the light, that's when I made my exit. Not a fair place at all. I went to another place around the corner and the mechanic put the bulb in for $65. Now that, was a fair price. Edit: Thank you for responding back.

The staff were very friendly but I spent over 2,000 dollars with them trying to get my ac unit fixed and it’s still not working properly, after it was all said and done I have no air at all in the back of my vehicle because they had to just unplug the back blower because it would not turn off and kept killing my battery! I assume they just rigged something up, I feel really messed over and I know it’s because I’m a female! Just a lot of money down the drain, wish I would’ve just went to the dealership at least it would’ve been fixed correctly!

I have nothing but glowing things to say about this shop! They are courteous, priced fairly and do great work! I have taken my car in several times for various things and have always felt they KNOW what they are doing. My kuddo's to Steve. He was wonderful to work with! I even took my 89 year old mother's car in for work and SHE was pleased (that doesn't happen very often...HA!) She is now sending HER friends to Pope Auto. If you have any reservations about having work done there...don't. They won't let you down.

I got my inspection done on my car in 10 mins and directions on where to go to get my tags and the guys were professional and friendly. They even had fresh coffee made and chairs to set on while I waited. It's clean. I think that was the niced auto repair shop I've ever been in!

Pope Automotive is simply an excellent shop. Mr. Pope, Justin, and his entire team should be proud of their work, and Lubbock is fortunate to have such a fine business. I discovered Pope after doing some research on Lubbock shops on the Internet, and asking around at the local parts shops. I live in Houston, but my son lives in Lubbock, and I've been the one that generally deals with handling car maintenance issues. We had an emergency situation where another mechanic had incorrectly installed an engine part, and the installation failed. Mr. Pope and his team had the car towed, worked the vehicle into their already busy schedule, and assessed the situation. The failure slightly damaged the crankshaft (harmonic balancer issue). They studied the issue, consulted as a team, and came up with a solution that got my vehicle back on the road. Additionally, they went through the entire repair job from the other shop and discovered several more mild to moderate problems, and fixed them too. Last, they provided me a detailed, excellent write up that I'll be able to use to seek reimbursement from the first shop, and explained their findings to the other shop over the phone on my behalf. They'll be our shop from here forward. I cannot thank them enough. Great work, guys.

I've been waiting my whole life for a mechanic experience like this one. They really went out of their way to help, and they gave me a great deal for the work they did. Wowzers. If your car needs something, this is the place to go.

The service was phenomenal! Our case was a little unique...toddler put coins in CD slot that shorted the odometer/speedometer. Took them forever but they took a lot of the expenses in the shorts. Very reasonably priced. Great to work with!! Going back with our next car.

Had a short causing 40 amp fuse to blow resulting in no power to start 2002 GMC truck. I tried fixing myself by replacing some parts that did not fix the problem. My son recommended taking to Pope Automotive and they found and fixed the problem same day!!! Price was very fair and service was outstanding. Attention to detail such as putting windshield sun shade up till we could pick up truck. WELL DONE POPE AUTOMOTIVE!!! Sure glad to have my truck back running good as new.
