This RV park advertises like a public, family friendly business. We called ahead asking about availability of public shower facilities. We were told they offered five dollar showers to the public. When we arrived on site a few minutes later, we were approched by a resident of the RV park who told us to slow down because "children dart out in front of vehicles around here all the time". (I didnt see a speed limit sign when we pulled in, but apparently there is one.) So we slowed down. After this and just seeing how poorly maintained the facilities were, I told my boyfriend I wanted to leave because the entire place gave me a bad feeling. We started to leave the park (Not speeding, mind you), when the owner approached my side of car yelling at us to stop, with his hand on a GUN at his waist. He then proceeded to pull the GUN out and aim the GUN at us as we were trying to drive away (Again, NOT speeding, mind you), The owner eventually FIRED THE GUN in the direction of our vehicle. It was the most UNHINGED and scary experience. This place is not safe for ANY travelers. They are so worried about the children there, but it was ok for the OWNER to FIRE A GUN at a vehicle with two UNARMED people that was clearly no threat to him and LEAVING PEACEFULLY? What if a child had run out as he was FIRING his gun? Fortunately, we have EVERYTHING on camera (including voice recordings, our phone call ahead, etc) thanks to the front and rear dash camera installed in the vehicle. But do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. Your life could literally depend on it. EDIT for the owner: We have EVERYTHING on camera. I appreciate your justification for attempted assault, but our video evidence supports the truth. EDIT for other readers: The owner was ARRESTED AND CHARGED for his crimes against us and held accountable for his actions through the county courts (all public record, btw). Justice for us was served!

!!!!SPEED LIMIT IS 5 MPH!!!! Staying here was the cherry on top. He has bathrooms and a laundry room. Hes right across the street from the only grocery store. The owner's are funny and vary nice, the camp host is fantastic. (marine vet, her Favorite color is purple crayon) 🤭. Big Bend west gate is 2 minutes away (with no traffic). Food truck on site for lunch (look for hours of operation) they do have special events during holidays. Owner is VERY resourceful with RVs. (Don't mind the mess) He is very reliable, respectful and resourceful. You need it, he's probably... mostly already got into help!

Turned away with a reservation because we own a Tesla. The owner told us to “go back where we came from” and that he hoped we’d be stranded without a place to charge. (We didn’t get stranded by the way 🙃)

I came here with my family. I have 3 young children and we drove for 3 days to get here. Leon refused us service because we were using a Cybertruck to tow our airstream! This man is unhinged and dangerous! Do not stay here. Apparently he has pulled firearms on other guests before!

Steer clear of spending your money here. The owner is a political nut. He turned away good paying customers with a reservation to push his ill informed leftist ideology. His discriminatory behavior should not be supported. Choose kindness instead of hate.

Refused service despite acknowledging a prior reservation!||||I contacted these folks weeks in advance to confirm availability - a female employee was very helpful and said it was the end of the season, no issue, she had me down for three nights. When I arrive, I called to let them know I’d arrived and confirm which spot they'd like me to use, but I was surprised when owner Leon advised me that they had changed their policy on EV's, and had supposedly shut down for the season, even though they had plenty of room. Despite acknowledging the name of the employee I spoke to, and admitting that she worked for him, and had confirmed my reservation, he went on to tell me that they didn’t allow EV’s to charge there "anymore", even though I agreed to pay the rate the lady over the phone gave me. What an absolute joke.||||Then, as if that wasn’t bad enough - after we shrugged it off and charged our EV at the place we were staying (for free, I’d like to add) the unhinged Leon then starts harassing me with the utterly insane and threatening text messages (image uploaded). ||||He told me that i should go back to where I came from, and that Elon Musk and I should “go live in South Africa.” This type of threatening language is unacceptable.||||He also sent threatening and intimidating texts, saying “I can see you right now….” Like I’m afraid of some crazy old man. I’m not, Leon. Let’s make that clear.||||Finally, Leon told me he hopes that I was stranded, and couldn’t find a place to charge my EV out of sheer hate.||||This man’s behavior was totally unprovoked. I believe people who run this literal dump ground should be in jail. This is not a business you should trust.

So you guys deny stays on arrival because someone drives a Tesla? Well I guess this 25 year military veteran will not stay here and will advise all (to include through all avenues online) not to stay here. Ridiculous that you treat other people this way.

The location of this RV park to the Big Bend National Park entrance can't be beat, a 5 min drive. Also, very well located to town and the Terlingua Ghost Town. As for the RV park, it's what you should expect in Study Butte. This is not a luxurious environment; it's a dessert with extremes. The RV Park offers bathrooms with showers, consistent utilities (water/electric/wifi), and everyone we spoke to was very nice. Other reviews referenced an "angry old man" who yelled at them. That man was very pleasant when we spoke to him, if you aren't following his rules, he is the owner, then he should let you know. There are families with kids playing. Debora the manager was FANTASTIC, she is very pleasant and easy to work with and accommodated as we had a mechanical issue that delayed our arrival, and she held our spot for us during Spring Break. 2 things to make a special mention of: 1 - do not leave your garbage out. Walk it to the garbage bin, the coyotes will find it if it's out. (This is not the RV parks falut, its dumb campers not being careful.) 2 - the Rio Bravo food truck has excellent/authentic Mexican food that I highly recommend and miss already!

The people (other campers, park host, owners) were very nice. The location is great. The electric and water were fine. It really could have been a 5 star revew. Here’s why I gave 3 stars. The wifi was too weak to do anything, and the campground was a bit of a junk yard. I suspect that I picked up a nail in a motorcycle tire while loading up there because the (newish) tire was fine all day, and it was full when I loaded the next morning, but it was flat when I took the bike out of the trailer the next day. For the harley riders reading this, you know that's an expensive repair.

Great local flavor and easy access to grocery, Natl Park, town and hikes. Owners and crew were super nice and helpful. Not fancy but has. bathrooms, showers, wifi and meet up area with fire pit, grill and place to chill and chat.

We were staying at a nearby Airbnb and we were recommended these showers and I believe the previous review happened the same day we were there. Me and my boyfriend were waiting for showers when all of a sudden we heard a gunshot and the owner was trying to unjam his gun. We assume the manager (a man) came to take our money and let us into the showers and the owner said he was going to chase down the truck that was “speeding”. We didn’t notice any cars speeding through here. It was very off putting. The showers were fine the first night but the second night one was closed and the others toilet didn’t work. And no one ever texted back to give us a code we were just lucky enough to be behind people who let us in. Later on I talked to our air bnb owner and she said that the owner of this place wanted to close down the showers to the public because of people speeding so I assume that’s why we never got a text back. But she said he failed to mention the gun shots. Two stars are for the clean bathrooms and hot water and that’s it. We just decided to take baby wipe baths the rest of our stay due to whatever is happening here.

Called ahead on 12/30/24 to use the showers at Study Butte RV Park, instead I had a gun pulled on me and was fired upon. The incident is currently under investigation by the Brewster County Sheriff department, item number 24-013408.||||DO NOT enter this park. It is beyond shady.

First, the park’s location is excellent, but the park itself is a combination of a garbage dump and a dust bowl. The biggest problem, however, is the owner is an older, unhinged man who would rather confront and threaten you if you seem to go over his 5-mile-per-hour limit than politely tell you about the speed limit. In my encounter I made the mistake of entering by the wrong unmarked entrance and must have driven past him. I was on speaker phone at the time and went to my site and parked. A few minutes later I have this angry old man at my window who was clearly clutching his fists in anger. I was still on the phone but rolled down the window to ask what was up. He then proceeded to angrily tell me I was going over 5 mph and said I could leave if I didn’t like his rules. I apologized and said I did not know the limit, but I know I was driving slowly. After my call I found the man and asked how fast he thought I was going. He said he did not know, but also accused me of not paying attention while driving. To be clear, I had to pay attention because I entered the wrong way and was paying extra attention so I could find my piece of dirt. I then asked him how he knew I wasn’t paying attention and he accused me of staring forward and being unaware of anything to my left or right. I asked him how he could see my eyes when I had my sunglasses on and he said I was not wearing any. I proceeded to tell him that they are prescription glasses and I needed them to drive. Anyhow, he then yelled angrily that I did not want to argue with him. I apologized again and left. I can’t tolerate that treatment and that is why I am giving my honest review.

We spent a couple of days here and loved it. The rooms are just enough to offload gear and move around. The bed was comfortable, which most bnbs fail here. There is a common area with a fridge and a kitchen which we found useful. We tried the pool, and it was hard to understand how a pool in 105 degree summer stays at 70 but it was welcome after a slow, painful acclimation. They are also right across the street from the only grocery and general store in town. We will definitely stay here again.

We came during spring break and booked at jackass flats with no service. Since we were needing to work during our time here, we desperately needed a place to go with service which was a difficult task during one of the busiest times of year (and with our 40 foot rig). After having a few RV parks try to rip us off with $50/night or $75/night for dry camping on a slope and no amenities, we found this park and dry camped here for a reasonable $25/night. The owner and manager are really kind and they had some of the cleanest showers we’ve seen on the road. Will absolutely come back, it’s a beautiful piece of land just a couple miles from the entrance of the park and walking distance to the grocery store (literally across the street). There’s also a food truck here if you don’t feel like cooking. We loved it so much we extended our stay for another week. Thank y’all for hosting us!

Quiet park even though it's right off the highway, but there's little traffic after hours. There are 4 separate bathrooms each with toilet and shower that are clean with hot water. Wifi is good and reliable. Owner is a very nice guy who works hard in his retirement. You may need to check yourself in upon arrival until he has a chance to catch up with you by visiting your site.

Only about 2mi to the west entrance to Big Bend NP. Full hookup! And, just across the street from local grocery store; fantastic location! Clean facilities. Very personable & very friendly hosts, that are very accommodating! Totally love the common area in the evening, great way to meet other campers & locals!

Close to Big Bend, so that's a plus. Free and nice showers. Seems like it's more long- term people, so there wasn't the comradery that usually exists. Great market across the street with vegan options and everything from fresh produce to paper goods and camping equipment. They don't take cards, so I had to mail a down payment, which was kind of funny. Little cemetery there too. Don't know what that's about.

We were going to camp at Big Bend, but they let us down by being full. What a bummer. So, in the middle of a sandstorm during the night, we finally found the Cotton Wood store. Luckily, we noticed an RV park right across the road. Thank God. We pulled in and asked AL (the camp host) if they had a place where we could camp. They did! Al was super friendly! The campground had hot showers. The bathrooms were cleaned regularly. I know this because I used the bathroom. Then later someone blew up the toilet. Then I went to the bathroom again and noticed it. The next morning, all bomb traces were gone. The shower water always stayed hot. The toilets never clogged. And, in the middle of absolutely nowhere, they even had WiFi! I definitely was very happy.

This is a nice RV park. Very close to the National Park and it has a well stocked grocery store across the street. Bathrooms were clean and hot water was great. The owners were very nice and helpful. The only issue would be that the laundry facility was not working when we were there but they were fixing it. Would definitely come back again.

What an AMAZING time we had here! The owners, Leon & his wife were so amazing in EVERY way. They have 4 individual bathrooms with hot showers & outdoor sink for washing dishes. There is a pavilion with a microwave and extras you may need. Just amazing experience all around! We WILL be back!!!

The owners Leon and Benita are very kind, made accommodations for tent camping on a very hot day. ( we were lucky that we brought a window unit for air. LOL) ||The shower and bathrooms spotless and modern, There is a community area that had tables, can do your own cooking. Electric hookups and bbq grills. Laundry on site. We will go back in cooler weather. ||The other local people come to chat and make it very friendly. We felt very safe. We will think great thoughts regarding our new friends. Thanks Leon and Benita for a great visit!!!

When you first pull in you wonder, however we enjoyed our stay here. Sites are a bit cramped however you get full hook-ups on the upper side. Owner Leon is interesting and helpful. He has quite a collection of stuff on display around the campground. We also enjoyed meeting and talking with many of the guests. Tip: if you need to do laundry wait till evening it is lees busy.

Great location, right outside the Big bend national Park. The hosts are very accommodating and friendly. We tent camped the first night and were planning to move to the park but decided to stay here because did not want to pack/unpack. We were glad we stayed here because the shaded/covered picnic benches were right next to our tent and the 4 bathrooms are very clean and maintained. There is also a laundry and cemetery on-site :) Tent camping is $20 / night. There is a store across the street that sells EVERYTHING.

The staff is super helpful and ready to help you feel welcome to the park. They are working on building a Welcome Center by hand. This was our very first trip to an RV park (our 25 ft Cruise America camper probably gave it away) but they just rolled with our questions and concerns while we stayed here one night. The neighbors were friendly. Wifi signal is great! Facilities were clean too! There is a shower here in a big bathroom but keep it to a 5 minute maximum because water and availability of an open shower is prized here, folks. Expect lots of desert bugs and sounds. The kids loved exploring and showing us what the found. We would DEFINITELY stay here again. Thanks for a great stay!

Currently the closest place for camping to Big Bend (~45 mins from Panther Junction). Not only that, they actually have spaces available! And at a reasonable price too. The property managers are great, and really love their business. I was lucky enough to stay during a big night (Larry's birthday!) and they hosted a huge potluck for the whole park. They went out of their way to make sure everyone had plenty of food/drink and really brought the park together. The selflessness of the people at this park is really something to be admired, and if I find myself in the area again I will be sure to book with them!

We had a great time staying here for 5 nights. The owners, Leon and Benita, have owned it for the last 2 years and they are steadily improving the place. There is a nice sense of community and the bathrooms are exceptionally clean. We were new travel trailer owners and they made sure to make themselves available to answer questions and help us with our learning curve. We will be back to enjoy Terlingua and Big Bend National Park.

The owner is very friendly. There were only few of us so the single bathroom behind the main office at the entrance sufficed. There is a plan to build another one, but if quick access to the bathroom is important to you then do call and check. They have a shared shaded area with 2 picnic tables, which had lights and electric sockets, so we did all our cooking there. Of course if there are more folks camping, you will not have this place to yourself. There was a store right opposite the entrance, and gas station and restaurant nearby.

We stayed here for two weeks. Leon, the campground owner, was extremely kind and did everything he could to make our stay easy and comfortable since our truck broke down shortly after we arrived. All the guests at Study Butte were exceptional friendly and helpful, and Leon is constantly making improvements to the campground. It’s a great location so close to Big Bend National Park. We would definitely stay here again the next time we’re in the area.
