What clients say about Recycling Bins in College Station (TX)

I drive 40 minutes into town to do errands as well as drop off the recycling because I do not live in a county or city that recycles so this is my only place that I can do that to find out that it’s closed now at 12 is frustrating and I have 2 to 3 weeks worth of recycling that I was going to drop off. There needs to be more outlets for recycling in this area to limit people from trying to do better for the environment is really frustrating.

if you can get there during the limited hours, this site is useful enough for recycling. marked inaccurately on A&M recycling center website as open 24/7 (like it used to be)–actually open 8AM to 12PM noon on weekdays only, closed on university holidays. this makes recycling virtually impossible for so many students. i am unsure what “for university use only” means exactly and threats of police and prosecution make the experience generally uneasy. Texas A&M needs to do better, this is disappointing.

This is awful. The only public recycling center in the area is now closed to the public. This is a travesty. A resource for those us who aren't served by the recycling pickup are now without options. I guess Texas really doesn't care about not messing with Texas. Time to start illegal dumping.

The facility hours are not feasible as they once were. The timing is awkward for a standard work day.
May 23, 2025 -
This place is not open to the public. I went by there today (5-7-25), and there were big signs stating it is for university use only.

What a waste of space. No longer open to locals and the last time I was there (the day before a holiday) the woman who worked there was so massively rude I was seeing red. She wouldn't look at me or acknowledge my presence when I was trying to ask a question and when I finally said "Excuse me!" loudly and with force she said "we're closed" and shut the gate on me 15 minutes before they were actually scheduled. Don't promote yourself as being TAMU affiliated if you let your staff act with zero regard to TAMU values.

It’s like they want it to be as difficult as possible to recycle. They reduced their already ridiculously short hours to 8am-12pm and sometimes close early. They reduced their bins, and put up bold signs that say FOR UNIVERSITY USE ONLY and a bunch of threatening messages about calling the cops on trespassers… for recycling bins.

The hours are reduced to 8-12 noon and now signs are up saying “University use only “ and the glass recycling bins have been removed. SMH! Why is it so difficult to recycle?

Thankful that this was a great option to recycle for the public for years until recently. Shifting the hours of operation and removing recycling bins is now irrelevant due to recent signage stating, “For university use only.” This location is also no longer listed on A&M’s website as a recycling option.

This was the only public recycling drop off I could find in the BCS area. They now only have 3 bins available with signage that says "For University Use Only". Since I live outside of the area of College Station that has curbside recycling, I have no option for recycling. In 2025 when we know that society has to more effectively use resources, this is unacceptable.

Drove all the way there to find it closed for “can servicing”. I understand if the hours had to be suddenly cut short from 3pm to 12pm, but at least update when it’s randomly closed

I’m a former student and local resident. From the new posted signage on the TAMU recycling enclosure on Adriance Rd, it appears that recycling is no longer available to local residents and perhaps even to students, but only to University operations or facilities department. A new sign indicates “For University Use Only”. From what I’ve seen on past site visits, I can understand the reasoning for secure control as the site was being used in a haphazard way for both recycling and even some non-recycling waste. Because the University apparently has closed disposal options to the local population and has provided no alternative solutions, it should no longer promote itself as being genuinely concerned for the population’s health and the environment.

I am bummed that they changed the time they open from 7:30 to 8 am. That 30 minutes prohibits me from dropping off my recycling on my way to work. I now have a bunch of plastic, cardboard and paper in my car a I look for a place to take it. I do not want to just throw it in a land fill. Please change it back. Even a couple of days could help.

They have already lessed the hours to 8-12. But today it was already closed at 11:45. When we tracked down the lady who obvisously hates her life, she told us it was already 12. Please get someone who will work till the hour you are posting the station open.

This recycling center is the reason why so many people DONT recycle, hours are constantly getting reduced with no notice, any student knows how hard it is to fit recycling into their schedule ESPECIALLY now that they close at noon. Why would you further cut down hours when all of the reviews have already been complaining about it closing at 3:30
Mar 31, 2025 -
I usually visit this recycling center, but I was really frustrated today. I arrived around 1:30 pm, only to find out that their hours have changed without any prior notice. They used to be open until 3:30 pm, but now they close at noon. This change inconveniences and restricts B/CS residents' access to proper recycling. Most residents rely on this center because many can’t afford the city’s blue bin service and have no other place to go. I just hope this place doesn't end up closing

It's honestly disgusting that they decided to pay to put a steel cage & security cameras -- SECURITY CAMERAS! -- around recycling bins instead of just adding an extra bin to handle overflow. For years, this center was accessible 24/7! Bring that back!
Mar 25, 2025 -
Only 3 stars bc I'm happy there is actually a recycling center somewhere in BCS! They'd get 5 if they were open longer hours and more days.
Mar 18, 2025 -
Live 40 miles out of town come into center 12:00 Tuesday says closed for servicing cans. No one there no phone number etc. Recycle at their convenience!
Mar 13, 2025 -
This is ridiculous. The hours work for only people who don’t have jobs. Give us one weekend a month at least and maybe one late night. Why have recycling if no one can get to it?
Feb 19, 2025 -
You can ONLY GO MONDAY through FRIDAY, 7:30- 3:30...NOT when school iscout or game days ..AND THEY MEAN IT! GATES WILL be closed.

Stopped here to drop off my recycling then pulled off to the side to bring up my GPS. When the recycling truck driver pulled in, I pulled forward as much as I could, took a few extra seconds to get my GPS going, and started to leave — but the guy stopped me to yell at me about being sat here on my phone. Excuse me? He was immediately very aggressive and accusatory and actually stopped me from leaving to tell me that. I don't expect to be waited on, but I do expect basic human decency and that was severely lacking.

Yes, it is upsetting that the hours have decreased, BUT, this is the only place I know of you can drop off at all, and I appreciate it. Not sure why they did this, but I imagine they pry had people dumping their trash in there because they are...well, you know. You know, the riff-raff comes out at night, and maybe there were even weirder things going on over there. It's a shame! Working folks, we gotta figure out how to get over there during these hours or find someone else to carry it for us, it's too important! Please don't shut this place down no matter how many complaints you get!

Was great when you could go on weekends or after work to drop off items but now that they’ve changed it it’s super inconvenient for people who work to drop their stuff off. It’s not like it’s a manned location. It’s all self serve why gate it and make it hard to use? City of Bryan needs to put theirs back or Texas A and M should at least have some jobs for people to unload it and sort it if you’re going to have set hours. If it’s self serve, why have hours???

As others said, they have shortened hours to 7:00a - 3:30p on weekdays only. I assume there was an issue with people dumping at the site due to the "No Dumping" signs that are plastered all over the place now. Rather than spend money to install cameras to capture illegal dumpers and prosecute them, they spent money on an expensive fence and set hours that basically make the site unusable for anyone with a normal job. Idiot decision.

Shortened hours, 7:30a-3:30p. Bankers hours?? Can't make that work with my schedule. Used to be able to drive up all day. Now I'll have to figure out how to dispose of the large load of recyclables that I have in my car. This is the only recycling drop off in the BCS area that I know of, so no more recycling for me.

Used to come to this place frequently and really loved it! Facilities were open 24/7, clean, organized, and easy to use. However, the recent change with the restricted hours has ruined this facility. Normal people with jobs and busy students are unable to make these hours. I had always dropped off recycling on the weekend or late at night (~9pm) after my work. Recycling is very important to me, but it will be impossible for me to recycle going forward because of these awful restrictions. Very disappointed.

They fenced the whole thing off and made impossible business hours for anyone who works a normal schedule. I'm so disappointed, a campus that's continuously bragging about working towards sustainability and being eco friendly just cut off a huge population that relied on them having the only recycling drop off that wasn't specific to only certain materials. Shame =/

I am grateful this is here and often I don’t sort my recycle so they have a big canister for unsorted cardboard, all paper, plastic & aluminum and glass.

Easy access to a variety of recycling bins. Area was clean and right off of University Drive and open 24/7.
