I used to be a regular at Thompson metal for over a decade but continued having trouble out of the Hispanic man that operates the machine where you back in to dump the metal. I not only would bring my metal there exclusively I also was a regular at coming to buy scrap for projects. While there scouting the yard to see if there was anything worth while to pick up like a push mower to fix and resale or a carberator off a junk engine I would be harassed by the machine operator claiming he was holding certain items for himself or others which wasn't always true, I cought him in a lie saying he was holding an item for someone. Turned out I knew the person he's claimed he was holding it for so I contacted them and they hadn't been there recently and had no idea about the operator saposedly holding the item for him. Mind you I wasn't even interested in buying said item I simply just wanted to look at it because I had never seen one before. This type of situation happened several times. I was told to stand inside or on the steps leading into the building while operating the machine, I had no problem with that but he allowed his buddy's to break the rules right in front of me but would throw a fit if i did what his buddies did. I recorded one day when this was going on if anyone has anything to say otherwise. I have all together quit going there because of that one individual and I wish I could remember his name but other than that one guy I got along with everyone else and never had any real issues, in fact sometimes I would go to scout for stuff to buy and not find anything substantial just some wiring or small little something that was just a pound or two they would give it to me. I know of several others that do the same as me and go there to buy items or metal stock and have the same problems with that Hispanic machine operator. I personally feel that guy should have been fired long ago because I know for a fact he has costed Thompson metal money because of his behavior. But in the big scheme of things they don't give a shit about the Little guys because as long as they have daddy Eastman and other large facilities bringing 18 wheeler loads of metal in daily they arent worried about anyone else. So if you ever go and they have closed early or whatever it's likely because they know the big trucks have stopped rolling in for the day.
It would be nice if you could change your hours online. Went today got there at 3:07pm and were turned away by a rude employee who told us they now close at 3pm! No signage anywhere stating the change in hours.
The people who work there are nice enough. However, there is very little direction if you’ve never been there before there’s no way you know where to go and what to do but my biggest complaint is them closing early the website says 3:30 if I were to show up at 3:20 I can understand being turned away, but when I show up at 3:05 and they’ve already shut the blinds and put the close sign up that’s unacceptable. When you fill a truck full of metal, you can’t carry it around all day because someone doesn’t like staying all the way to closing time. I see other complaints and reviews mentioning the same problem. The other time I came here It took me eight minutes to unload my truck. It’s very unprofessional and caused a major inconvenience.
I took 105 pounds of new coil stock ( scraps from wrapping windows/siding) 2 each solid aluminum braces 8 feet long wing 10 pounds apiece, and roughly 50 pounds of brand new ( stripped and shiny) yjv. I had a lot of end pieces that were random lengths that I skinned and cut into 12-18” pieces. And a single piece of painted downspout. I backed up and was told to dump it in the hopper while the guy stood by the scale. Coilstock first, and I looked at the guy when done and he said keep going. I added the long pieces of solid cast aluminum next and so on.
When I was done I took the ticket to the very nice lady was paid.
And I am partially to blame for this because I was in a hurry. I had to be at a appointment, and I didn’t even pay attention to the amount of money or the ticket until later in the day.
I know that scrap metal prices fluctuate greatly. But I was highly upset when I read the ticket and it said $42.50 for 105 pounds of painted aluminum siding!
I know that I will never get the $ I should have been paid. And I want to give you a chance to explain to me why this guy did what he did? What he did was wrong and highly unethical to say the least! Have you had similar things like this happen before ?
But times are hard, and I spent a lot of time prepping this metal. And the end result was plain simple. I was cheated out of money I should have been paid.
Another wasted trip, and with gas as high as it is, I come here alot to take aluminum, cans, etc. Usually pretty good, twice now tho ive come only to be told by the guy at the dock they're closed when its 2 oclock, I give 2 instead of 1 star cuz they're usually good other than the guys taking my scrap acting like they hate they're life, and im posting to make sure its not the workers telling me they r closed an hour early just cuz they wanna get whatever else done just to go home, some of us have jobs and can't make it there first thing in the morning during the week let alone by 3, if it's 10 or 15 til I wouldn't even waste my time with a post and could understand, but a whole hour when the website says 330, 3 on Friday, and the way the workers act I felt obligated especially living as far as I do and this being the only place close enough I can despose of certain things properly and recycle, could do better
When ever you want to get rid of any metallic materials, take it to Thompson Metal Service and they will give you money for it. Little wait, no hassle. $$$
These guys a great very fair on prices,I recycle alot just in my blood plus does the world a favor,I've been to all recycle places around to test the waters and Thompsons are the best ,quicker and easiest way to unload Thank you guys alot
Today is Friday August 30 I decided to go haul off today Google Cleary says 330pm is when they close I pull in at 230 on the dot the scale window is allready closed and so is the garage bay door what kinda of company let's this kind of laziness go on really unhappy for the wasted time and gas

I have always received satisfactory service here. All the people posting negative adds need to keep in mind they are paying you not vice versa. It's not a fine restaurant where they are fulfilling all your needs during your visit in hopes of receiving a hefty tip when you leave. Also metal prices are low right now across the board, and not just at Thompson. China isn't buying metal like they were in recent years past. Another is gas isn't 4$ + either. Yes, metal used to be 10-12$ per hundred lbs, but I'd rather have it cheap and gas cheaper than it was during the spike of steel prices.
Excellent place to purchase various structural steel pieces for any at home construction project. I have picked out alot of useful steel pieces for use in my welding shop and farm over the years. Has always been a pleasure to do business here. They even recently cut a large heavy duty piece of rectangular tubing beam 4"X6" X 8' for me and loaded it with fork lift. Thanks very much guys! A+.
Wish I could give 0 stars. Guy weighed our iron, and even at the LOW price of $0.24 per pound (we still should’ve got well over $20 for 104 pounds. Instead I got a little receipt with $7.
I received a fair amount for what I was scrapping. Although yard was a disaster, I had no direction or help to even know if I was unloading in the correct pile, the office people left me on the scale for a lot longer than anywhere else I've been and when I went inside to collect I was standing there with my son for about ten minutes. It was as if it was every employee's first day.
I thought it was just me ,but that guy is very rude! After he watched me unload a whole truck load of heave scrap and I got down to the last thing (compressor) and he said they couldn't take it. If I could have loaded my stuff back up by myself I would have and hauled it to the land field after he said that ! Only reason I gave them one star is that was the lowest option .
Not very nice service. The people working there wasn't very nice. And the scale said one thing and the man put a lower number in the computer. They did unload it for me. That was nice of them. But I'm not sure if I got ripped off or if they just lower the number for some other reason. But I think I will go elsewhere next time.
I've been to Thompson metal about 3 times and every time I went I was ripped off. I had several large trash bags of aluminum cans that were crushed and Thompson claimed they only weighed 12 pounds. I know for a fact that one bag weighed that much or more. I also took some other metal and aluminum and got ripped off on it also. The last time I was there I had copper wire and aluminum cans and after they weighed the cans and wire it was barely anything. I tried talking to them about it and they said if I didn't like the price I could take it somewhere else. So I told them that I would and when I went to get cans and copper wire back half of it was already gone. I asked them about it and they claimed that was all I had. So they not only ripped me off but also stole from me. I will never take anything there again. I would give my metal away for free to someone in need before I would take it to Thompson metal services. A really bad way to do business. They are nothing but thieves and ripping everyone off. Stay away unless you want to give your metal away for nothing.
Have gone 2 times both times I was dealt with in a rude manner and they pay next to nothing , I would go to wise recycling any day, they truly appreciate your business!
