I shop at Brown and Hopkins on occasion, mostly for the holidays. While the store is beautiful I would say some of the staff could be a bit more kind and attentive. Usually on the top floor there is someone very helpful which was also the case today. When I went to cash out I was behind one person and there were two cashiers available. One woman finished up and immediately got on her cell phone and then the other cashier decided it was more important to join in and I was ignored by both individuals for a few minutes. I stood there and looked around like am I invisible? Then finally one of the staff looked up and asked if I was all set. Clearly...and yet it was somehow a shock that I was standing with a full basket of merchandise waiting to be helped. Sorry but this kind of service is just annoying when I read comments from the owner on reviews saying she prides herself on customer service. A few years ago I had a not great experience as well when I was shopping on Christmas Eve. Not really worth mentioning at this point but that's what prompted me to review how I did today.
What a great place to catch the holiday season of merriment! Tastefull gifts and decorations to adorn your tree or house, as you wish. Candy, treats and hot chocolate mixes are available. The staff is helpful and attentive, so stop in, you will be glad you did!
This store is magical! It’s like stepping back in time the minute you walk through the door. The store is completely decorated for Christmas right now and is amazing. Plus there are lots of gift options, from clothing and accessories, gourmet foods, children’s books and toys, and TONS of home decor. Highly recommend a stop here!!
The store truly offers a little something for everyone, and the staff are consistently exceptional.
It was disappointing to see the recent one-star review. I happened to be in the store at the same time as that customer. She attempted to use a gift card from 2021, and when the owner, Cindy, politely explained that it could no longer be honored, the customer became upset. Cindy handled the situation with kindness and professionalism. Unfortunately, the customer reacted by raising her voice, stating that she shops there frequently and would not return. She even asked her sister to leave the line and put back all of her items.
From what I witnessed, Cindy remained courteous throughout the interaction. It’s a wonderful store run by caring people, and I will continue to support them.
My sister had a gift certificate for this place for $150. She has shopped here many times and when she went to use it today for her $232 purchase they would NOT accept it, stating they were new owners. But yet they have the same name and the certificate was not expired. She had no way of knowing it had changed owners since they still had the same name. If it waa bought and paid for they should be obligated to honor it. She has spent alot of money here as well as referred to alot of friends and family. Which is something that will not happen now, the person there was very rude and unwilling to accommodate her in this situation. Very poor customer service!
This is the one of the best gift shops. They have a great variety of gifts, foods, soulveniers, even some antiques. When I am on the town I always visit it to see what's new
Brown & Hopkins is my go-to place for all things cozy, country chic, or country rustic! They offer a wide variety of items in all price ranges display all the products in such appealing ways that I get ideas just walking through—and I sometimes buy exactly what they’ve set up bc it’s that good! Their artificial flowers are super realistic; in fact, all the goods they sell are high quality. You can tell the owners put a lot of love and care into making this small business a welcoming one. I've been going here for years, and I've always loved it. The bottom level is set up like an old-timey shop, and the upper level is set up like a home, but you can buy everything! Both levels are decorated for every season. My favorite things to buy are the unique jams and snacks, as well as little unique trinkets.
A wonderful browsing experience. There is so much to look at and experience for the beautifully appointed country store. It like walking back to a simpler time and place with smiling staff and calming fragrances. You'll love it!
Congratulations to Cindy for living her dream as the new Proprietor of Brown and Hopkins! Can't think of a better person and Family to continue to bring the best decor in our homes for each season. The store looks amazing with all of the recent updates including the new and exciting merchandise! So happy to have such an inviting place to shop near home. Staying Local is the best place to be. I have been a lifelong customer of Brown and Hopkins, and Cindy (the new owner) has done a wonderful job of gracefully taking the shop under her wing. With any transition of ownership, there are some bumps in the road. She has handled each with grace, professionalism, and genuine care for the shop and its customers. She has listened to our hopes for the new chapter of Brown and Hopkins and has said that she looks forward to plans of bringing back some of our favorites such as penny candy and continuing traditions such as the beautiful seasonal displays. She has opened up the floor plan on the main floor to accommodate customers who use wheelchairs or have other mobility concerns. I pushed a chair through on Saturday, and can say it was a breeze! The main floor leans more towards a “market” with soups, dips, drinks, treats (the fudge was silky and Nutella-y), drink mixes, and to-die-for coffee to name a few! I had my eye on some of the jewelry, too. The main floor still houses some of my old favorites such as the candles and smaller decor. I didn’t get a chance to go upstairs this trip, but I hear that there are more home decorations up there, which I look forward to checking out in my next trip in for some fall decor that we’re all on the edge of our seat for! I also hear there are plans to expand the children’s area upstairs, which I look forward to seeing! I couldn’t be happier for this new phase of one of my favorite places. Such a wonderful shop with a great selection of gifts, food items and more. So lucky to be neighbors with such a historic landmark! Always greeted with a smile and made to feel welcome. In the past week of visits I've found everything from a hostess gift, lunch (shh - it was delicious dark chocolate and caramel popcorn), and candy for my kids. You need to put Brown and Hopkins on your visit bucket list. You won't regret it!
I have not had the pleasure of visiting in person, but it’s on my bucket list!!! I learned about this beautiful store through family and have ordered online. Everything I have gotten is beautiful and good quality items. It’s not local for me, but it’s still a locally owned store in that area, which we need to continue to support! I encourage you to watch their live sales! These are great people and the store is gorgeous!
Loved this country store out in a really small town of Rhode Island. If you're headed to Ponaganset Falls, definitely swing by the town of Chepachet and visit this store! It's lovely, quaint, and rustic. Many of the items in stock are great! If I didn't have a weight restriction for my international flight home, I would definitely have bought many more things.

Absolutely beautiful and unique it was built in 1799!! It's been open since around 1800 consistantly! It has two floors and a apartment space on the third floor that's not open to the public. They participate in Candlelight shopping in December as this historic area of Gloster Rhode Island has, it's called Chepachet R. I. has wonderful gifts, homemade everything like candles, jars of food and sauce, jewelry, candy, decorations and bedding and linens, pillows, unique housewares and it smells amazing in there! It's on the pricy side of the spectrum, nothing is cheap because almost everything is handmade in small batches by local artistans. Definitely worth checking out! The unique age of the historical building is charming!

I have been shopping at this store for years. I have gotten so many items for all different kinds of season and holidays. My mom, sister and I make a girls day out it when we visit. We always look forward to going to shop for new treasures. Thank you Brown & Hopkins!
Wonderful country store. Staff is very welcoming and friendly. Lots of home decor stuff that is unique and lovely wish I could buy it all. Loved there Christmas selection and the way its so carefully displayed to appeal to all. The candy is bountiful and yummy got some brownie bites very yummy must try it just soooo... very good. Jewelry is beautiful got a pair of earrings as a gift. Love them silver forest was there brand so unique and beautiful had to adore them right away of course. If you like to bake they have some cake mixes you can buy the chocolate tort cake mix caught my eye. Loved the atmosphere of the store definitely will return great gifts for yourself and all around you perfect place to shop for gifts. Can wait to go back.

I live across the country now and still order and when my Marine son comes home on leave the scents,, wax melts and other things relax him the most because it brings him back to his best memories in the store. Order now! You will love it♥️??
LOVE this store. 2 floors. Has a little bit of everything, make sure to look around, you’ll find very interesting stuff! I especially love those homemade room sprays in the brown bottles, I use them in my car. Also there’s antique shops next door/across the street and a delicious coffee shop a 3 minute walk away. Cute town and area.
Nice country store. We visited while we were up from North Carolina. They have all types of home decorations, candles, framed art, penny candy ect. This place is definitely worth stopping to see.
Aside from having so much history behind it, this olace is absolutely adorable!!! There's so much to look at, and there's so many things offered! From old-time candies to home deco, from clothing to some furniture. Definitely a place you NEED to visit if you're into that whole cozy-feeling, antique store. I'll be back for sure!!
