Great service and came quickly when needed a tow! Excellent experience with annual vehicle inspections over the years, and found they stand behind their work. Glad to have such an exceptional team/garage in Stormstown. Definitely recommend!
Has contracts with most student apartments and will stalk parking lots late at night and tow your car even if your permit is up and on display at 9pm at night with no notice at all. Was extremely smug when I called and asked if they towed my car, I told him my pass was there and he just said no. When I went to get my car I realized I left my window was down and my permit was moved. Was towing another car from Tremont lot (with its windows down, same as mine pre my pass being moved) when I went to get my vehicle at 10:00 at night. $335 to get it out. If you don't notice till morning its an extra $60 charge for it to be there overnight.
Beware of Halfmoon Towing – Predatory Practices
Had an awful experience with Halfmoon Towing. They towed my car from *my assigned parking spot, right in front of my door*, just because I forgot to hang my permit.
It was spring break, the lot was half empty, and they towed it without warning—then charged me a ridiculous $335 to get it back.
I checked my lease, and there’s no mention of requiring notice before towing. This feels like a blatant cash grab rather than actual enforcement of parking rules.
Be extra cautious if you park anywhere they operate—this company seems to prioritize profit over fairness.
If you’ve had a similar experience, it might be worth reporting them to local authorities.
Typical predatory type practices. Definition of predator: a person, group, or business that exploits, victimizes, or preys on others. I couldn't imagine a job where I drive around at night looking for illegally parked cars just to make a buck. Gross!
I called around for estimates on a long distance tow and half moon was a great price! My vehicle needed towed 2 hours and 18 minutes away. They even did it same day! If i could give 10 stars I would!
After I was towed, I was told I would only be able to pay in cash. When I got to the lot to pay for my car, they weren't able to split my bills. Shocking how a company that only takes cash doesn't have cash at hand.
Got a flat tire 3.5 hours away from home. My van was parked in a very inconvenient spot and they worked diligently to help me. I’m from out of state and I can’t say enough good things about my experience.
Absolute scam. My car was parked legally but was towed anyways. I showed I was parked correctly and they still refused to release my car without me paying $250 cash. I have no clue how these businesses are allowed to operate like this. No accountability and no recourse for its victims.
These are not the best people. During THON weekend, Walmart called them to tow the cars of the kids raising money to fight childhood cancer who left their cars in the Walmart lot. Really despicable on Walmart's part and theirs. $400 to tow the car of a college kid fighting cancer. DO NOT patronize.
AAA told me I would have to wait 1 1/2 hours before I would even get a time for someone to come to jump my battery. I called Half Moon, they told me they'd be here in 20 minutes, and they actually arrived in 10. They don't take AAA any more. They used to, but the driver told me there were too many hassles in getting paid, so they stopped. I had to pay them for the service, including a Sunday surcharge, but it was well worth it, as I was able to get where I needed to be on time.
Horrible experience. I would never suggest anyone to use this company. I needed a tow for a simple fix (alternator) and they send an unqualified tow technician literally DRUG my vehicle DOWN the 2 miles to the nearest garage.. literally wrecking 2 brand new tires! Snapping my tie rod and breaking more stuff.. this happened more than a month ago, and still haven't reimbursed or remedies this situation because I lost my job because they they hired someone incompetent!
My wife was in a car accident 2 hours from home in single digit temps. It took them maybe 20 minutes to get to her after calling them. From her initial phone call on, the team at Half Moon Towing took great care of my wife. They got her towed back to their yard and then let her stay inside their shop for the 2 plus hours it took me to get to her. I appreciate not only the quick response for the tow, but also the customer service and hospitality they showed my wife.
They were assigned to me through AAA. I couldn’t recommend a better towing service. Very kind, and very upfront about wait times, etc. I will definitely recommend them to anyone who may need their services
They saved us from being stranded on the side of the road at the end of our vacation. We were all exhausted physically and emotionally and they towed us home as well as our family. Our driver Sean was wonderful, making sure we stopped if needed and was a joy to talk to on the way home!
I was expecting a tow truck at 8 am and two hours later I finally got a call from their driver, only to tell me that he needs me to wait for another 60-90mins. What a great service.
Car broke down in the middle of a 6 hour drive. We were basically stranded on an interstate and had no one near us to call to pick us up. Called AAA and they were able to find Halfmoon Towing Service to get us and take us to State College. The response was fast and we were back on the road headed towards my dealership to drop off my car within 5 minutes. I was very impressed with the speed and professionalism of Halfmoon. The individual who picked us up went beyond his job and called ahead to the dealership we were going to and gave them my information. I am beyond impressed and would highly recommend Halfmoon Towing! Thank you again!
Would 0 star if I could. Stay away. Owner tore up my yard to get a vehicle that had a dead battery. Didn't bring a jump pack to start the vehicle and get it out of 4 wheel drive. Lifted the rear of the vehicle and rocked it back and forth to try and get it out of 4 wheel drive possibly damaging it. Left without the vehicle. Worthless......
I delt with the owner today for a vehicle he was selling. I had a budget and we made the deal. Pleased with the purchase and overall dealings with him. Stood around talking to the one mechanic as well. They were all very respectful. I highly recommend these guys.
I found myself in a ditch along side a very icy road recently. Will was so very friendly and helpful, even though it was after 9PM and he was working since 7 AM! I was very stuck and he got me out in just a few minutes with no damage to my vehicle. Hopefully I do not have to use a towing service again, but if I do I will be calling Halfmoon.
I broke down in Black Moshannon State park and called Halfmoon Towing. The dispatcher said someone would be there in 90 minutes and the tow truck showed up right on time. The driver recommended Pep Boys in State College to do the repair work and towed me there in no time. Pep Boys did a great job making the tough mechanical fuel pump repair and getting me back on the road in a few hours. The driver was courteous, considerate, and a pleasure to talk with. We enjoyed sharing stories about the challenges and blessings of raising daughters.
My bike broke down in State College today. My insurance company contacted Halfmoon for roadside assistance. We were told eta was 90 minutes. 2 hours later, I called what I’m guessing was the dispatcher. After keeping me on hold, she told me the rollback driver would call me. He never did. Called my insurance company back and they were informed that Halfmoon’s driver wasn’t picking us up. No phone call, NOTHING! Thanks for leaving us stranded.
Dustin from Half Moon Valley Towing went out of his way to make sure that my vehicle was secure and brought to the shop safely. When he first arrived at the scene, he realized that a flatbed was a better option. Instead of having me wait for him to get back, he kept in touch with me and sent me pictures to ensure that the vehicle reached its final destination. Worst company ever.
My bf got two flat tires on the road and I called the police. Police then called halfmoon to tow the car. My bf got charged $300 extra afterwards because half moon said it's the price they set when police called them to tow the car,which is totally nonsense. Neither the police or the man from half moon to tow our car told us there will be an extra charge like like.Otherwise, we would just called any tow company to come by ourselves. $300 is way above the price compare to other company where the avg is around $130.
Somehow halfmoon told my bf's insurance that they charge us extra $300 was bc they have to pulled my bf out of the car since he was stocked in the car. I have no idea why they tried to lie to the insurance company and what's their intention.
To sum up, I would never recommend anyone this company.
Great outfit. Come to tow my broken down car on Christmas night. Fast, professional service. Wish I didn't have to wait for my car to fall apart to use them.
These guy's are like family. I bring all my vehicles to Halfmoon Valley Towing for inspections and repairs. Most of my vehicles are aging and they do a great job of keeping them running.
