What business does not have money to pay the customer whenever they are in the business of buying scrap. Highly recommend to stay away and go somewhere else and save yourself the headache
If I could leave a zero star I would. Says their hours are open till noon. On Saturday I get there and wait for 15 minutes for them to tell me that they're closed on Saturday. Between IOUs and misinform now we find out that they're polluting our Rivers. This place needs to just be shut down.
Unbelievable! I should have looked at the reviews first, very low star rating, and I think I understand why, I just called and no one picks up the phone, I get their voicemail and it says it's full and I cannot leave a message, really? Why are you even in business then?
Years ago, they had great prices and I tell people to come here. Thank you for the opportunities to get our vehicles fixed for cheap, but If it is true that you're dumping into the codoras creek, then i am sorry to say that you are showing a big middle finger to the people who supported this place. If it is also true, to the clients here, pepare for a price jump here so you can help them pay their fines. To the customers, good luck on all of your projects.
I dont know if this place recycle batteries, but if so, and If you have too many batteries while wanting to keep the price low at this location, may I suggest water, vegtable oil under 20-40khz instead of buying expensive acid to reduce the cost of extraction of valu le metals in batteries?
Also I love that you have attack dog to defend your property after hours, give a treat to the good dog...
This place is a very bad place , go elsewhere if u have a chance , the owner and all the employees are very rude and the owner has dogs with him with no training whatsoever , me and my friend cashed our check for the scrap metal and the dog’s attacked my friend and the owner tried to blame it on us for some reason like if we were responsible after visiting and profiting his business
If I could give them -5 stars I would. I was involved in an accident last thursday and my vehicle was in need of a tow. The police dispatched these guys to pick up my truck.
I only had front end damage and now warning lights at the accident scene.
Paid 685$ today to cover the tow bill and storage fees. Another tow company came to pick up my truck to take to a repair center.
Upon turning the truck on I was met with warning chimes for DEF fault and limp mode notification. We started looking at what the issue was and I found my very expensive exhaust and and def system smashed.
It appears they tried to move my truck with a tractor and pallet forks and missed. There’s marks similar sized to pallet forks and they even hit my cross frame support.
Of course they denied it.
Waiting to hear back from my insurance company and if push comes to shove I’ll have to hire a good lawyer and sue.

From the other reviews I am reading it looks like my review will not be much different. Our customer has dropped off scrap metal and they stated they do not have cash on hand. This was done on May 10th, 2024. After calling for the last month, we have been getting the same story from them that they do not have cash. It seems like this is an ongoing problem. We are owed $424.45 by this company. So if you are looking to get stiffed, this would be the place to bring your recycling services. I would highly suggest another company for your scrap metal needs, but to each their own.

J & K finally paid. The professionism and timing of payment is not acceptable. Added one star because payment came through.
Terrible. Been handing out "IOUs" for years. Customer service is terrible, everything about that place is shady. Unloaded, said they didn't have cash, finally got it and just talked to a guys belly when I went to pick the cash up. Won't be going there again.
Don’t scrap here if you expect to get paid cash. Was told they didn’t have cash. They could give me a i owe you and I could come back The next day and it’s been over a week and they still don’t have any money. Seems fishy to me.
Tomorrow will mark the third Saturday in a row that they couldn't pay me just a mere $72.00. If and when I ever get paid, I wouldn't use them again. If they don't pay, it should be considered a form of theft. Very poor business practice. I just feel sorry for the people that scrap for an income source.
Don’t even bother. The last 3 times I went there I only brought less then 10 dollars worth of cans and the guy tells me they don’t have any cash. So I get an iou slip and I asked how long it’s good for and he just said “some time”. It’s been 7 months since my first drop off and they still mysteriously don’t have any cash when I call them. Safe to say I won’t be getting paid what I’m owed anytime soon. I wouldn’t even recommend it as a place to drop off scrap for free since you’re likely going to pick up a nail or two in your tires.
How do they still have 3 stars. People have been reporting their scrap iou scam for years. I’ve found reviews back to 2013. Offered my friend an IOU today but he didn’t take it. So strange because CLEARLY they have a large business going there. It’s a massive yard. Wonder what their money stays tied up in? York county corruption is rampant! I’m sure it’s some nefarious activities.
Waiting for money for over a month just all around a big hassle for chump change all it seems lately is I owe you and everytime you call no one is worried about it or excuses call after 10 am to see if we have money what a joke for such a reputable business that cares 0%about there customers and paying up and surrendering your word of occupation… ps still haven’t gotten my money 400 dolors seems as this I have to take necessary actions before too long
Their Drivers have no regard for others on the road. Constantly seen driving double the speed limit and recklessly. They must really hate their jobs or under that much pressure to be in a hurry every day and put others at risk.
My first and will be only time here and I did read the reviews prior to coming and about an IOU being handed instead of cash or check. Personally thought it was just disgruntled customers. Came to the place with a good amount of copper and aluminum and the guy told me we only give out IOUs. Looking puzzled I asked, not even a check. The man said nope so I turned around and called my buddy about the situation. Buddy said is that even legal lol. I just said about me reading the reviews and I have a really bad feeling handing it over. He thought the same so I held it till another recycler opened up. My honest opinion with good insight is. This place tries to rip people off hoping they will just forget it to making money anyway they can and thats just desperate to have to go there. I feel bad for the good people who actually do work there, a shame.
I am the owner of West Pennsboro Auto Wreckers in Carlisle PA. I was provided a container by the owner Joe Darrah for the collection of scrap steel. This container, full of scrap steel, number 303722, was picked up from my yard on 12/12/2022 around 5 pm. Via communication with the owner, I was advised that I would receive a check for this container weight. Last communication with Joe was on January 26th via text with another reassurance that I would be paid. He has not responded to any more communications and I do not have payment. It is unfortunate that businesses and consumers fall victim to a person/business such as this that operate on bad faith practices. After reading these Google reviews, it appears that this business has repetitively failed to pay a large consumer base in this area. I would advise consumers to read these reviews carefully and be wary of this business - I should have done so as well.
Went into the scrap with 640lbs of iron (67.00) after dropping the load and going to the cashier, cashier than yelled saying WE ALREADY TOLD YOU WE HAVE NO MONEY WHEN YOU DROPPED OFF..... i have no idea what is going on but Theft by Deception is a thing.... What is this world coming too? Why cant a professional salvage yard handle 67.00 cash?... Why did i get a IOU that states it has been PAID??...
came in to drop off small scrap .. literally $23 worth scrap ductwork .. left with 3 nails in drivers rear tire and 1 bolt in the passenger side rear tire .. .. had to pull onto scale .. back out .. then back into the scrap iron area to which i obtained the nails .. then back onto the same scale .. and then had to again back off the scale .. place is obviously a scrap yard but at what point does keeping your traffic areas clear of scrap and debris, so incoming drivers can safely and without harm to there vehicles or themselves drop u scrap .. appreciate being able to recycle locally but not at the cost of plugging tires .. or replacing them .. i will not be returning until some serious yard cleaning or maintance is done to prevent this in the future
An unauthorized box truck was parked in my private lot for weeks. It was a challenge finding companies with tow trucks large enough to remove it and able to impound it. J&K was onsite a couple hours after requesting removal. Kudos!

Took some fencing there a while back. Got 70$ voucher to be redeemed at their "staff" manned "ATM" Tried about 8 times to get paid over the course of a few weeks and they never had any money to withdraw for me. Also ended up with two flat tires dumping the fence from my bed in the yard.
Was going to take them to court, but decided not to bother. Still bugs me to this day.
I need a tow so called them. I couldnt make out what they were saying. I asked him nicely for second time. He raised his tone at me like it make any better. Mind you im hard of hearing. Then i asked for third time. He got frustrated n rudely hung up on me. I never deal with somebody like that in my life. In the future i will not deal with their service again. It was very disappointed i might add.
Sold 2 cars to them and there was "no money" avaliable in their machine. Had 3 visits and mutiple calls into them before they finally wrote me a check. I have been using Prospect Metals lately and recommend them. I would watch my cars rust before ever selling to J&K again.
Its now past 2 months and I still have not received money for my car they could conveniently tow and take my title for.. I've called about 5 times and it's always, I'll get back to you..... it's being mailed today...... words!!! How these people operate a business is beyond me. I should be read the reviews before calling them. Hopefully someone doesn't make my same mistake. I'll edit the review for my money.......
I had a flat tire earlier today. A very kind tow truck driver stopped and put my spare on for me. He wouldn't accept any money. He said that he has a wife and kids, and can only hope that somebody would do the same for them. Thank you, God, for sending me this angel of Mercy! And kuddos to J&K for their choice of employees! If I need salvage services, I'll call J&K first!
Synopsis: Don't waste your time and energy doing business here. I had to be brief because I couldn't fit everything I wanted to say in the allotted space. FYI, The Better Business Bureau gave them an F.
I would have to say that I was very dissatisfied with the service I received from J&K Salvage. I dropped off a minimum amount of scrap (a few hundred dollars) and after they took my scrap I was asked if I wanted an ATM ticket that I could use to get cash out of ATM or if I wanted to go to the scarp office and collect a check. The guy was nice enough to inform me that the ATM was currently out of cash, so I opted for the check. I later found out (by employees/customers) it rarely holds cash and so many other people are waiting that when it has cash it doesn't last long.
I was told they had to mail check bc they didn't have any on hand. 7 weeks went by before I called to inquire about my check. They had no idea and said they would call me back. They never did. I call back later only to get same response. 1 more week, I call and I am told they will call me back. I called them out on not calling me back and that is when it was mentioned to me that they are owed a lot of $ and are having trouble paying customers (oh, and I was told they couldn't issue checks. WHAT?!). Then why take my product in first place if you didn't have intentions of paying me on time. They told me to call after hours and speak with Joe, the owner/manager (idk). He was fairly rude and told me to speak to Yvonne and she would set aside cash to pay me. Well I was finally paid (3 MONTHS AFTER i gave them my metal). I will say that all the employees were courteous and Joe might have been just having a bad day. But I believe this company is having huge issues and forcing its low level customers to bare the faults of someone else. Get your act together or at least be more honest!
I scrapped a car there on 10-18, the clerk said they had no money but i could call during the week and they should have it. Its been almost a week now and surprise no money the whole week! They do have the best price per 100 but good luck getting your money! They probably pay there employs with scrap and encourage them to take to a more reputable place of business! I'll be sure to update this within a week.
On March 22 2014 I dropped off 2 loads of scrap total worth $245.00. There automatic ticket and atm system was out of money. I was told the owner fills atm with money sometime after 10am but is never at the same time so none of the employees know when money is there. Unable to collect on the 22nd which was a Saturday, I returned Monday the 24th after work at 330pm ( Sunday they are closed ) and again no money in atm. At this time I was told the atm usually runs out quick so I was to get here early. When I asked the cashier if she believed this was good business practice I was answered with silence. I have returned at 845am on Wednesday being forced to wait for a money delivery. It is now 1030 am the 26th still no delivery and no were near the customers I was led to believe in fact of the 3 other customers I've seen and talked to one was paid cash 4$ and the other 2 were returning from earlier this week for payment. I refuse to leave at this time. I will update once paid or kicked out.
At 1050am an employee made the effort to finally get me paid and he did so to him I say thank you. My experience with the employees was pleasant, unfortunately the owner leaves them to be the faces and hangs them out to dry. I found out the owner was on site. This troubles me because if he knew I was there and made no effort to reconcile his bill, leaving it to a concerned employee to take care of it what kind of individual is this man. I'd have to say this was my first and last experience with J&K. And I can only hope the employees find a better employer and business to work for. By the way there BBB Rating is an F feel free to look it up yourself.
