First time user and it was great. Had quite a bit of old paint, oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, battery, etc. Was glad to get rid of all that stuff collected over the years. Staff there was friendly and very helpful. They had my truck unloaded in minutes. Great experience.
I had a great experience with The Lorain Port Authority when dropping off used oil. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole process quick and easy. It’s clear they care about proper disposal and keeping things environmentally friendly. Everything was well organized, and they answered all my questions without any hassle. I really appreciate places like this that make it convenient to do the right thing. Highly recommend if you need to recycle oil or other materials!
Great service & love the fact you do not have to exit your vehicle. It sure makes it easy to get rid of unwanted articles that you can not or should not put in your trash can!
I dropped of years of documents for shredding. This was easy and convenient. I pulled in and they unloaded everything from my trunk, I didn’t even need to get out of my vehicle. The staff was super nice and professional. Highly recommend!
Had a carload of old electronics from cleaning out my MIL’s house. A little bit of a wait but definitely worth knowing the items are being recycled properly. The employees were very friendly, efficient and professional. They unloaded everything and I didn’t even have to get out of my car. Very organized. Nice building. Will be back with more!!

I arrived there as they first opened so it was not busy yet but was very impressed by the quickness & effienCy of the workers! I did not have to leave my car...my items were taken right out of the trunk! Everyone was very polite! Until today did not know this existed but very thankful it does! You know you are a full blown adult when your Saturday is centered around getting rid of trash and old paint cans and finding it is an easy process that is a benefit to all county residents. And when you are done you feel a deep sense of satisfaction.
It is a drive through operation where you pull in, present your ID and then proceed to where you and the workers load it onto carts.
And away it goes....?

1. Enter across from Washington Square Apts and look for the orange sign.
2. Cones direct traffic. Sorta like Cedar Point except your recycling - electronic gizmos in my case - go for a ride, not you.
3. Line is quick. Two vehicles at a time are unloaded.
4. Have your proof of residence ready.

I have used this service in the past and it was simple and easy however this time it was chaotic. The line for tire disposal began half a city block away from the entrance of the tire disposal facility. This was only made obvious when I was abruptly turned away from the empty facility. Apparently they are only capable of processing 4 customers every 30 minutes. I wonder why they don't expand their hours of service if they have as much interest in appropriate tire disposal? I waited over an hour to dispose of 4 tires.
This place currently has different hours due to COVID-19. This place is not open on Mondays! It is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, though the lines are way longer than usual due to the center being closed for several months and only opening back up in the later half of July. It's still well worth the effort to drop your stuff off here. Masks are required though they'd prefer it if you stay in your car at all times. I went on a Saturday. The line looked scary long but moved along fast enough to be tolerable. I was home a little over an hour after I left and that's including the time it took to drive from Amherst to Elyria.
It took nearly 1 1/2 hours- but almost all of that was waiting in line behind 100 or so cars that. Like me, had things we weren't able to take during the oast couple of months due to tge pandemic. For now, they're only open on Saturdays, thus the long lines.Once I was close to the center, things moved fast. They're efficient and the facility is very clean.
The staff directs you and you don't even need to get out of your car. Just be sure to specify if you have containers you don't want them to throw out. They take almost all recyclables, including paint, car batteries, tires (there is a limit per person on how many they will accept) fluorescent bulbs, etc. Check hours and days they're open.
Great place to get rid of old paint. Be prepared to be asked multiple times if your a business or a landlord. I guess they don't take paint from business or landlord. If you have alot of paint employees act like it's a big deal and a lot of work to slide paint from pickup truck to 4 wheel cart. Big fat guy pretends to assist but he is clearly happy to have other employees do all the work. Overall happy to have this free service available to county residents. They are fast. Drive thru is convenient.
Our recycling center is a great asset to the community for many reasons, not the least of which is the staff who make my weekly visit quick, easy and fun. Their nice long hours on Saturday (9 - 6) allow me to drop off my recyclables at my convenience, and I'm usually in and out of this nice clean "drive through" facility in 5 minutes or less.
