I have been doing business at this yard for over a decade at least and I have more good experiences than bad for sure. I have never felt like they did anything fishy or had any problems with my weight in all these years not once. I have been on Saturday and everyday of the week and even when they was about to close the gate b4 and not once have I been turned away or made to feel like I wasn't appreciated for doing business with them and if I did ever have a problem then I am pretty positive they would go above and beyond to figure out what they need to do to make it right. Now I will say this..u better know what u have and have it separate from everything else and ur best advice is to always and I mean always use a magnet and bring it with u. Also a file to file down certain metals like copper from brass and so on. Some workers will help u to a point but that's not really the job they have to do so dont expect them to hold ur hand bc that's not what they are there to do. If u are not smart enough to do ur own research on what metals u have, how much u have, and what they will pay u for that metal then its not there problem if ur lazy or too stupid bc remember they are trying to make a living also and if u are going to throw copper out in the metal pile outside where the shredded material is at then they are gonna let u make that mistake repeatedly and they will just pick it up when u leave and put it where it goes. Thats money they saved and I totally get it bc I would do that same thing myself if it was my yard so just remember to know the scrap game b4 u try to start playing the game. If u want to make more money for ur scrap then come here for sure. Kenny is the best employee that I have dealt with over the years and he is moving up in the company which is a really smart move on the companies part bc he is a loyal and reliable employee who treats customers right.

First I would like to say. I love Foss they are by far the best scrap yard I have gone to I work for a construction company and we deal with a a lot of scrap metal . I have done over $3000 in scrap with Foss just this week. Needless to say I come here a lot because I trust the company and I appreciate all the employees busting their tails to get the jobs done. I had a bad experience today, I got to the yard at 2:30 pm and did not get to the scales at almost 4:15. I saw the yard was busy so I remained patient and waited my turn. That was not the bad experience the bad experience was when I finally got to the scale ready to sell my scarp the employee had a attitude and saying they need to go home at 4:30 we need to leave. Now I have been waiting for almost 2 hours in the line and I did not get upset with them for making me wait ,but as much business I do here I did not appreciate that kind of behavior, I will continue to bring my scrap to Foss all I ask is that if they don’t want to serve me or take in my scarp pls let me know when I pull in the gate 2 hours before y’all close and not get a attitude with me after waiting for 2 hours on y’all. I had enough time to go to a different scrap yard. If y’all would have let me know when I got there. I hope this was only a bad day and really hope this kind of situation never happen again. Thank you all for all you do

I had a negative review and I decided to give them another shot. The same operator from last time recognized his mistake and treated my trailer with respect. Be hooked up the mag and my trailer was not damaged again. Thank you guys for reading my review and addressing the issue.

5 stars! It was so quick and easy to recycle our scrap wires. They take so many types of metals and the guy that helped us out with our exchange was polite and efficient. Highly recommend Foss scrap yard/recycling!

Get ready to stand around and tap your foot while waiting for what seems like a century, even though you're the only one there. They are friendly, they just don't have a sense of urgency. They do things backwards here. They weigh all your metal at the same time and subtract the weight after taking each different metal off one-by-one instead of adding it to the scale. This method is highly inefficient because you end up just standing there the whole time rather than participating in the exchange. However, they will purchase vacuums by the unit, rather than by weight so you can make out there. $1 per vacuum!

Been to a few scrapyards around the area, this one is my favorite hands down. Won't go to another one. As long as nobody is in line, I can get in and out relatively quick, maybe 10 minutes. This morning there was a gentleman with a few different things and held me up about 20 minutes to have various things weighed, but I get it. Friendly staff, and they work hard! A+

I was very disappointed I think they got me on my weight I have I weighed in at 10500 and 7th and Powell I weighed out at 8000 something and then I have 10 or 12 batteries for 9:55 just some copper I really think they got me I'm going to take the ticket back Monday to see but I feel like they really took advantage of me

Payouts for scrap metal are very, very shoty Foss sends their metals out of state to get more money but fails to honor the loyal customer base....once a month visit.

Do not give these crooks your business; I took 45 lbs of clean dry cans but they arbitrarily deducted 8 lbs; I was only paid for 37lbs!

Kenny has always been helpful and cheerful as I bring in a variety of stuff to Foss. As an electrical contractor I bring some copper wire but also lots of 'junk' like the aluminium frames from my old storm windows and even a brass water faucet. While you may not get rich it should help you feel good about taking care of the planet. I always keep a spot to store up my stuff to take to Foss.

I only got $5. It’s better than nothing. It’s always good to have cash back

There's a guy named Kenny there.. if it wasn't for him I would go some where else.. and if anyone up the totem pole actually sees this message you should do something for him.. at Foss in Durham... I've seen him run two scales faster then most run one!!

Awful experience. I've been trying to get my car towed off the lot and they have given me the run-around for days. I'm not sure how they are with their other services but using them as a tow service is ILL-ADVISED. Unreliable. Unprofessional. Unwilling.

Bad customer service. The Lady on the phone was very impatient and rude.

1st time customer but went two times on the same day. Great experience each time and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Unlike facilities in Raleigh, the yard at Foss is flat and easily maneuverable. Highly recommend.

The other reviewer, Amanda, who admitted to being a new scrapper, did it wrong. At Foss, you take your clean metals like Brass and Copper, plus other metals, like Aluminum, computer scrap, etc, to the small scales in the shed next to the large ones you roll over. Foss always has the best prices for scrap. Unless you go at the last minute or Saturday, it is usually quick in and out. Never had a problem there.

My first hard lesson as a new scrapper. I pulled onto the scales at 4,000 pounds, unloaded white goods, pulled back onto scales at 3,600 and unloaded clean metals. My final weigh - 2,900 - What did I leave with? $40 and a reciept saying I was helped by "Lisa" and only showing 314 pounds of steel and 36 pounds of white goods. My copper and brass were not recorded or paid for. Tried to talk to the office but the door was locked at 1:30 pm. The gentleman, "Lisa" had already helped enough. I might expect that treatment from a corporate employed auto mechanic who thinks he can pull the wool over my eyes. Not from a reputable local business.
