Just wonderful! My 1st there to donate cat food and supplies. They are doing God's work. I met Jackson the pup, a very playful and friendly dog. He needs a home, wish I could help but my building doesn't allow dogs

We lost our sweet baby Khalessi unexpectedly a few weeks ago. We were heartbroken, still are but we needed to fill the void pretty quickly. Nothing will ever replace her but we went to the Humane Society of Westchester the very next day to find our new feline babies. I called and they told me to fill out an application online and make an appointment. We did that and got an appointment the next day. We were so impressed and happy as soon as we walked in the door. The staff was extremely friendly and right away let us into the room with all the kittens. There were about 15 or so kittens in there and a few older cats. The room was really big and clean so they had loads of room to run around and play. We must have been in there for almost an hour trying to decide. We ended up picking two kittens. We let the staff know which ones we wanted. It was $350 for both, this included them being spayed/neutered, microchipped, tested for FIV & FELV. We had to sign a few forms and we left with them the same day. I would highly recommend adopting from the Humane Society of Westchester. We are so happy with our babies Max and Bonnie but the whole process was so easy and fast. I would recommend making an appointment before you go there and not just show up. They are very strict on the appointment policy as I overheard the staff on the phone a few times talking to people.

The person who answered the phone. Is angry heartless hung up on me. Horrible beyond any words. Needed help to save an abandoned kittie. Was grilled & abused. If this is how they speak to humans. How do they treat animals?

The manager Tiffany is cold hearted and uncaring. We fostered a dog prior to adoption. While adopting him we noticed an abnormal growth to the top of his mouth. We recently loss our 13 year old dog to cancer. I told Tif that prior to adoption we wanted to make sure that it was not cancer, so we asked for a biopsy. Mentally it was devastating with our previous dog dying for myself, husband and children. The biopsy showed inflammation, which was perplexing to us because the growth had a weird presentation. We adopted the dog and several months later the growth quadrupled in size. Our vet told us it looks obviously cancerous and that she didn't think the vet took enough sample. I called to update Tif. She basically accused us of causing the growth. She said they neutered the dog and he didn't have a growth, so it developed while we were fostering him. I told her it was horrible of her to make such an accusation knowing we previously loss a dog to cancer. She is a horrible person. I don't understand how they made her a manager of a humane society facility.

Maybe they're more better with dogs than cats. Cats sleep in the small cages &: don't seem 2b cared 4 that well. Most of the cats seemed 2 sleep in their litter boxes!

contacted humane society of new rochelle and asked if they offered neutering services for my cats and the receptionist was very nasty and told me that they do not offer spay and neutering services now i know that is not correct and they are going to be reported to the state level Governor hochul next I hope they get fined for animal abuse because my cats now have to suffer and not be allowed to have a pleasent lifestyle they are INTITLED too and they call them selves humane society of new rochelle there name should be changed there not humane at all im beside myself right now thanks for nothing humane society of new rochelle u definitely won't be getting our animals business ever I do not trust them for nothing all lies it's a shame how they want animals to suffer i do not recommend this place at all!!! I am looking at taking this to a higher level no worries I have nothing but time to make it publicly known that they do not put animals well being first they are far from humane!!!! I have a Bernice mountain dog and now to cats and they will not step foot in this place ever!! I think thier funding should definitely be reevaluated because if they are refusing to make my boys have a better lifestyle they are not humane. I called on August 26th 2025 at 2:20pm spoke to she said she was the assistant manager did not get her name but she should definitely not be in charge and they are not be incharge.

Not really friendly and does not accept donations. Staff roll eyes, make rude comments under their breathe in a ear shot away from visitors. I will take their rude suggestions and make future donations in the 5 boroughs.

Before they remodeled or moved location few years ago they did a neutered on my bunny and but didn’t feed him (I brought hay and greens in a bag) and staff looked like they didn’t know much about rabbits… ***this happened at the old location*** idk about now and I think they still do rabbits spray and neutered

Great shelter with wonderful employees that truly love and care for all the animals under their care. Great facility and selection of potential pets for anyone wishing to adopt.

I called these people regarding baby ducks that were being abused it on fifth Avenue a lot of mass confusion between them and another agency. The Humane Society apparently doesn’t understand anything that is said to them they’re not listening over talking on the phone and person. I’ve completely had it. This is my Third experience with this place very confusing with them I’m done

I’m heartbroken and beyond disappointed with my experience at West Chester Humane Society. After careful thought and consideration—especially after losing our beloved dog—my family and I finally decided we were ready to welcome another dog into our home. We found one we connected with, and I was told via email that I was getting the dog. I was even given a timeline to pick him up after his neutering. I took a day off work and prepared for the adoption, despite living a good distance away. But then—nothing. No phone call. No update. After sending two follow-up emails, I finally received a cold response claiming that the “owner wanted the dog back”and “if I wanted to be helped finding another dog”. As if I would fall into the same trap twice. This place clearly lacks compassion and professionalism. Communication was terrible, and to string along a family like this is just unnecessary and careless. They told me I was getting the dog and didn’t even have the decency to let me know that the plan had changed. This is not how a “humane” society should operate. It was emotionally draining and deeply upsetting. I truly hope they reflect on how they treat people who are opening their hearts and homes to animals. We deserved better. The dog deserved better

It’s honestly a shame what happened. My fiancé and I the night prior had a stray older kitten who seemingly was pregnant approach us meowing desperately for help. We took her into our apartment and bathed her as well as checked for fleas and fed her a combination of wet and dry food. She scoffed down 3 entire cans of fancy feast paté as well as the entire dish of dry food. We had then isolated her away from our other cats in case she had any parasites. The next morning we called the Humane Society of Westchester to see if they were accepting any furry friends in need of care. They gave us a phone number to another location in fordham which was not active and they were closed until Wednesday. They further explained that they only take animals found in westchester county (we live in the bronx but not even 5 minutes from westchester county). We were desperate and decided to bring the poor stray kitten over anyway because there was no way we could continue to look after her and that this shelter was the closest location to us and seemed to have a lot of supplies to care for animals unlike the locations in Manhattan. The poor baby peed in the carrier we took her in and they turned us away since we lied. Yes we did lie, but for the greater good because this older kitten was pregnant, hungry, and in need of care. This was completely heartless and inhumane for people who call themselves the humane society. Especially the woman who spoke to us who was condescending and told us to learn from this. All we have learned was that this location is selective of animals that should receive care solely based on where they were found. An animal in need is an animal in need and if we have the power to help then we should. It’s basic human courtesy. I hope the lady who decided to try and demoralize us sees this.

Had a wonderful experience this past week adopting a cat. Sara was lovely and so helpful and patient. Very clean shelter and you can tell how much the staff cares. They were very organized with the paperwork as well. I would trust them for any adoption need you have!

I drove an hour with my child to adopt two long-haired kittens. Upon arrival, I was informed that while the kittens had not been neutered, they had already been microchipped. I expressed my concerns about microchipping, as my adopted cats would be kept indoors and I wished to avoid potential health risks associated with the procedure. The manager reacted abruptly upon hearing my viewpoint and promptly instructed two staff members to remove the kittens from the room, leaving my child and me standing there without explanation. When I questioned how a microchip would protect a cat in the event of an accident—such as being hit by a car—one employee responded that it would at least allow authorities to identify the owner of the deceased animal. This experience left me disappointed, both in the handling of the situation and in the organization’s priorities regarding animal welfare. — Lora Levitchi

I had a wonderful experience at the Humane Society of Westchester! The staff are super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They really afforded us the time to meet the dogs we were considering for adoption. We were not rushed and were well supported in choosing our newest member of the family. Highly recommend!

I rate the Humane Society of Westchester a five star cause and the service to pets are so high quality, like they spay your pet so you don’t have to pay a vet to do it for you. I adopted my cat, Sunny, at that place and I think personally that it is a good place to adopt a pet at Humane Society of Westchester.

My husband and I adopted "Zena" yesterday. She is an 8 mos. old tabby that immediately stole our hearts. When I made the appointment to visit the shelter, I was introduced to "Zena" and I fell in love with her right away. Once I brought her home shes been acting like she's lived here forever. She loves belly rubs and sitting in our laps. She loves talking, playing with toys and following us around. She is such a beautiful kitty. I want to thank Shawn for choosing Zena as a candidate for us. We are so lucky to have her as a new family member. So thank you again Shawn and thank you New Rochelle Animal Shelter.

This is our second time adopting a cat from the Humane Society of Westchester. It is never a bad experience although now you need an appointment, they don't do walk ins anymore. The staff is very friendly and patient. They are really passionate about finding good homes for all of their animals.

I have never been a cat person, however my co-worker loves them, she’s is a big advocate for them. So I decided to get a kitten so that we could get use to each other. My plan was to let the kitten bond with me. As soon as my son and I walked in he ran up to us and never left my side the whole time we were there. When it was time to leave he jumped in the box, like he was saying let’s go home. Today makes 4 weeks since I adopted him. I must say I love this kitten he’s soooo sweet, he has stolen my He was adopted as Potato, but we know him as Oliver aka Ollie…

We had the BEST experience with the staff at the Humane Society of Westchester. They gave us an appointment the day after filling out the application, their listed pets online were all up to date so we didn’t fall in love with an already unavailable pet, the facilities are great, the pets all seem so well taken care of, and the staff felt like they all knew the animals individually to help pair us with the perfect cat. They let us spend as much time as we needed to find and bond with the each cat, and once we found our girl, sent us home with a whole bag of goodies. They also offer free first vet visits with affiliated vets in westchester, and offer to pay for any medications your pet might need from that first appointment. Our vet told us they took great care of our girl for the three weeks she was off the streets, and her spay healed perfectly. After stressful and frustrating experiences with other shelters across Manhattan & Brooklyn, HS of Westchester changed my entire view of adopting, and I’ll be recommending them to anyone who’ll listen. Thank you for everything!

ADOPTED 10/07/2022!! A HUGE thanks to the amazing staff at the shelter. You are friendly, caring and very knowledgeable. My family couldn’t be happier with this bundle of love , spunk, personality and amazing energy. He plays throughout the house chasing toys, shoelaces, and almost anything else moving usually only stopping for kisses , rubs or food ( purring all the way) lol. Eventually he’ll tire himself out, nap and repeat. He’s the BEST! When I met “Logan “ I instantly knew his home is with me. Say hello to my big boy, “BULLET “ “

My wife saved a little kitten from underneath a car during a storm. The staff was a great help, as they dewormed and cleaned her. We were able to adopt little Mellie, and she's been super excited now that she has a permanent home.

Our family was ready to adopt a cat and we decided on the Humane Society in New Rochelle. The staff was friendly and we had plenty of time to meet the cats before making a decision. Mamba is the newest member of our family. She is sweet and making the adjustment to her new home. Thank you to the staff for making this possible!
