Went in to surrender plates for an old car. I called ahead a few days beforehand and was told I actually didn't need an appointment for that transaction. I was skeptical. But I went in on a Thursday late morning and it went fine. I got a ticket and before I could even sit down they called me. The rep was knowledgeable and helpful. I was out in like 2 minutes. Amazing.
Went in this morning to get my enhanced license for travel. Had made appointment online. First two gentlemen (security) very friendly and helpful. Check in at kiosk, First Lady taking pictures was very friendly and nice. Waited maybe 10 minutes as I was a bit early. My number is called go to window with all my documents except one. Amy and Dave were very friendly, professional and helpful. I didn’t even have to leave window with my issue they helped me get what I needed! For all the bad reviews I have read I have to say my experience was pretty great! Thanks again Amy and Dave for a positive experience!
Outdated or inaccurate database coupled with employees who cannot critical think or interpret anything you say….older gentleman with 3 hairs on top would not even listen to the circumstances I was explaining and instead of hearing what I was saying he shut me down after hearing one word. I was giving him context on the scenario. He told me my license was expired when I just took the road test a month back. My permit was still valid for another 6 months and instead of that drawing a read flag in his head, he told me “that’s what it says in the computer” then proceeded to restart the issuing process. He could not explain why for anything and could not listen for more than 2 seconds. I understand there’s processes but if you cannot articulate or see the discrepancies between anything you’re useless. The DMV database is far from accurate. He is a prime example of a larger issue in the workforce and world. He had no problem going on talking about his personal problem to his coworker but when it came time to listen or critical thinking regarding his job it was an issue. Helpless and unprofessional all around.
The ABSOLUTE WORST DMV location in Syracuse, NY! This is the second day I try to come in just to get a registration sticker printed out and I’m turned away a 9:30am and told by the guard (who was very polite) like yea okay because this location is only doing appointments.
They were kind and knowledgeable and made an otherwise notoriously horrible experience quite pleasant. No sloths working here. Making a reservation helps. Show up with your SSN card, birth certificate, marriage license if you have a change of name, proof of address.
I have been waiting for my title for over 2 months, they won't issue me a duplicate and told me to just keep waiting. This is a terrible way to treat a customer.
The most unhelpful building you will step foot in. They make you think it’s efficient by staffing 3 people to greet you at the door and tell you where to sit but even with an appointment you will wait well over an hour to see someone. Once at the desk the person serving you will have no idea what documents you need to provide and will defer to a supervisor, who are clearly trained to just get you out the door as soon as possible. In the 2 hours we were there I witnessed 3 separate supervisors raise their voices at all kinds of people (one minor and her mother, one elderly women, my veteran husband) all claiming they had the wrong paperwork and couldn’t be helped that day. A little googling proved all of these supervisors wrong quite quickly, which concerns me for the level of service their supervisory staff are okay with providing. Go to the DMV in Watertown for a much easier experience!
Took my neighbor to register her first car after just getting her license. To say she was excited is an understatement. Well it almost didn’t happen. A typo on her insurance card almost made the day and wait a bust but Jordan wouldn’t allow it. Jordan was amazing and gave us a couple of options and the time to make it happen. He could have just said “ get it fixed and come back” but he didn’t. He was kind, patient and fun. He could tell it was a special moment. Thank you Jordan for making this memorable time happen.
Absolutely THE most efficient and friendly DMV I've ever been to! So easy to make an appointment online, then just had to wait 3 minutes for them to call my number, and the whole thing was complete in less than 20 minutes from walking in the door. Highly recommend this location!
Don’t have reservations if they mean nothing. Came in and was surpassed by 8 other people that were behind me without reservations.
However the staff was very kind.
Would give it zero stars if I could. I was already anxious about going and they make it 100 times worse. Was going in to renew/real ID and when I walked in the lady (who was extremely rude) gave me my ticket and told me to wait. They took my picture then I had to wait to see someone to actually do the license process. Finally got called after 45 mins (WITH a reservation) the next lady who was helping me (INSANELY rude) told me I had to fill out a form and go back and wait. NO ONE had told me I had to fill out a form. So I had to do that then wait all over again. The next lady I got was equally as rude. So, I definitely would not recommend this place

reservations mean nothing and staff is rude immediately when greeting them. The blonde woman at counter 13 did not greet me or ask my reason for visit, just took my paperwork and assumed. gave me a thumbs down instead of using her words and had plenty of attitude when I had all the necessary paperwork and kindness. not sure who peed in her cereal but she is unprofessional.
Currently by appointment only. Quick, efficient, friendly staff makes the process smooth. The online prescreening ensures you have all the documents you need prior to your appointment. The facility has food and drink vending machines and there is plenty of parking.
The idea of a reservation/appointment is dishonest. Despite having a reservation for a specific time time, all the reservation gets you is the right to attend this location on a specific day. You may book a reservation for 8am, 30 minutes after it opens, but if enough people with afternoon reservations get there before you, you won't be seen until 11am. On the plus side, it's reasonably clean and the staff isn't unfriendly.
When I upgraded my license to a Real ID the DMV misspelled my name by 1 letter. I went into the N Syr office (Taft rd) to see what I needed to do to get it straightened out.Initially, while receiving assistance at the first window, a supervisor stepped up to oversee the situation and he was very snippy with me and made the entire situation MY fault. Long story short... I spent 2 1/2 hours there because there was a problem with my license at the Albany level.
Taft road spent about an hour on the phone with Albany and couldn't get it resolved. After 2 1/2 hours I had to leave because I had a commitment I had to be at.
When I left there.... I asked for my paperwork back and stated to that same supervisor.....the one I saw on the way in..... "I'll got to Wampsville and get it done there tomorrow." His response to me was..."Well, good luck, they are worse than we are!"
So in conclusion, I have NO kind words for the Taft rd office. I went to Wampsville today, with NO reservation, and they had me in and out in about an hour. And they had to call Albany to resolve my issue....which was Taft rds mistake.....
I will NEVER go to Taft rd again.
Upon coming back from FL for the winter I went to the Taft Road DMV to retrieve my personalized plates stored in 11/24. Security guard informed I could go it Blding without a reservation, visit 1. Made reservations on line. Went back with reservation for 12:45. Waited until 1:30 to get to counter 1? Counter 1 is the testing room? Why they sent me there is puzzling. Told the employee I was there to pick up my stored plates. She was rude and abrasive when I show her my receipt of turning in plates 11/24. She just kept asking for my form? Normally, when I have stored the plates in Wampsville DMV. They give me my plates after I hand them my receipt. She then accused me of yelling and streaming at her? Tell me to get out of here examination room several times? Finally, told me someone else at another counter would give me the form. Second employee was more civil. Told me I had to fill out registration form to get my plates? My registration isn't up until 7/25? I would have to wait for my number to come up again? Informed him I was not waiting another two hours just to receive my plates. Have made another reservation to retrieve my plates, 3 visit? The NYSDMV is a nightmare to deal with. This as the 2nd employee stated they NOT HAVE TO HONOR YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME? I wish people in this state would grow a spine and demand a change in processors.
Waited 1 hour after Online reservation despite having all paperwork completed and arriving 25 minutes early. Confirmed with reception I had not missed my number. Had to leave. The "appointment" just allows you to be able to stand in line. Unless you blow a for like one guy. Then they gave him a place in line. If this was a doctor's office, it would be out of business.
Couldn’t do less than one star. I would avoid this facility, they have armed guards that DO NOT work for the state of NY who demand to see your personal information, a violation of state law. The staff is consistently rude and unhelpful and will find new and creative ways to actually not do anything. Went to get out new to us truck registered and they tried to tell us we had to wait 8 months, we went to DMV in Auburn and drove the truck home that night. Taft Td DMV is a fine example of what communism looks like. Don’t waste your time.
Quick, efficient, and friendly. I used the online appointment system to get an enhanced license and even before my number was called the woman doing the photography called me up to get my picture taken and that accelerated everything.
Go in the late afternoon before 4pm. The attendant at the Taft road DMV got me in and out really fast, plus he explained the new enhanced license plus the additional $42.50 fee. It's a lot more than needed because the federal government got involved. But the attendant was very professional and thorough in his delivery and mannerisms. The reception attendant here is awesome. They have security here.
When you go there, go when it's raining because there's a lot less traffic there when the weather is bad. Get in and get out quickly that way.
I don’t know why this location has any bad reviews. I came in prepared and was helped so quickly I thought I heard the number wrong. The person taking my renewal photo was very nice and even happy! The fellow who did the rest of my paperwork was extremely thorough and very pleasant. Thanks DMV workers!!
Once inside the experience was great. In and out in under 15 minutes.
However, my appt was for 7am. They changed their hours, but I was not informed. I sat in my car for over an hour. Then, I ended up being behind people without an appt and people with appts AFTER mine, which I did not feel was right. They should've prioritized by appt time. Not by who forces their way to security first.
Very helpful receptionist. Filled out most of the paperwork for a new title for us right there. Problem is Old people keep coming here for things you can do all online slowing down the process by 3 hours for us.
