Charged $70 to check a code I already knew was thrown (you can get it read for free at other places) , I expected to them to do a further inspection and that wasn’t done. Then was told 2500 for a part which is more expensive than the OEM part. This place just wants your money.
Best shop in have ever been to. As a retired tech, I won't take my vehicle anywhere else. I had my van shipped home from Wyoming almost 1500 miles because I didn't trust anyone else.
Let me start with the fact that have been using bates since they were just a small shop in pevely and up until today have had no issues with them at all, but my car came in for a radiator fan, hose, and an intake manifold and after they claimed to have fixed it, they started my car and blew the turbo and sucked oil into my catalytic converter essential destroying both. I attempted to resolve the issue with the owner and despite my years of loyalty they refused to make it right and blamed me and saying it was a coincidence. Im not sure what changed but I cant believe the shop i called my mechanic did this to me. Took 2600$ from me, broke my car and still have to have it towed away. Shop is now claiming i said and quote "said they damaged the turbo by not filling coolant correctly" i never once said that but I did in fact tell them they should have verified everything before turning the vehicle on and doing more damage the owner is now lying to try and make me seem like an uneducated ignorant person instead of just owning up to one mistake. I even recorded the whole phone call because I knew this exact thing would happen so yah
They fit me in when Dobbs said I had to wait till 5pm, coming from out of town so I wasn’t willing to do that, called bates up and they fit me right in!! Very helpful and kind employees!
Highly recommend! One of our fleet vehicles had a fluke starter problem at the gas station down the street, and reached out to the closest mechanic across the street and they refused to help, so the crew walked down to Bates Automotive and they sent an mechanic to come help roadside. They diagnosed the problem, got the part, installed, and completed a check of the starter's health before the crew left. Thanks to Jeff and his crew at Bates for exceptional service in a time of need. Thanks again!
Jeff and Ryan are amazing, went to couple shops around the area and they were the only ones to really help. We broke down at the Casey’s after driving back from Cape Girardeau for work and being how most shops are nowadays, busy as hell, Ryan and Jeff went above and beyond. I’m all the way from Pacific, Mo. and will now take my business over to them. The nice Lady at the desk while on the phone also was listening in and also gave us a couple local phone numbers in case we needed to tow. Can’t say enough how impressed I am with there professionalism. Thank you again guys. If anyone is looking for a local shop that will attend to you even if there busy, these guys will.

I took my truck for just a state inspection and failed saying i needed $2250 worth of front end work. I thought something was funny and took it to d & j automotive in Festus and they told me everything was ok and they were at a loss as to why $2250 worth of work was needed ! Do yourself a favor and just go to a honest place like d & j

Bates my family's go to for issues wit our vehicles. We've gone there for years and they take great care of us. Art, Jeff and Chad are the best! Friendly, honest and knowledgeable....you can't ask for a better combination. They are busy (which is a good sign) so call ahead and make that appointment. You offer good quality work!. Never had to return or had any issues with any work they have done on any of our vehicles. Bonus points for the waiting area too. Waiting areas in car shops are never very clean. Not a big deal per say if your satisfied with the work they do. But this was the probably the cleanest waiting area I have even seen in any business. Very nice!

My wife's car broke down and had to be towed. I asked the tow truck driver to take the car to whoever he trusted and he took it to Bates. Without an appointment, Art went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of, he was even going to make sure that we had a hotel to stay in! Fortunately, he was able to get the car going on the spot and even called us when we were on the road to make sure we were getting home okay. Absolutely A+ service. If we lived there, I wouldn't take my cars to anyone else after just one interaction with them. I can't say enough good things.
Soooo friendly, helpful and honest. One of their guys did a ride-along with me so he could hear the noise my car was making, and they were able to check it out and found out that the lug nuts on my front left wheel were loose. They tightened them up and had it done in about half an hour. Didn't try to upsell me or make me pay extra fees. Amazing!
I was in the automotive field for many years running various shops. I'm old enough that most of the people I knew to be capable and honest have retired. So I was a bit nervous trying Bates for the first time as I had seen so many cashgrabbing and/or unqualified people whose only motive was to extract as much money as possible from people who didn't know much about cars. After my visit, I could not be more impressed. Totally professional, totally clear about what they found and what they did, and the work was completed properly with no shortcuts or mistakes. I talked to the owner for a bit and he seems to be serious about running a skilled, honest, reasonably priced shop.
Have been taking vehicles to Jeff since he had his first location. Not only do they exceed the expectation of giving you what you need they go above and beyond any other place to get you fixed and on the road quickly. I have never had a vehicle there longer than 2 days and I had my jeep completely tore down. Top notch work and friendly honest customers. Will only ever use this shop and only recommend people to them they have my business as long as they are there
I was referred to Bates Automotive from a friend. From the moment I called and spoke with Art, I was treated with kindness and respect. He was upfront and honest with me and was able to fit me into the schedule very quickly. One of our other vehicles now needs repaired and Art has been very helpful in the process. I would recommend them to anyone who needs repairs on their vehicles. My repair was done quickly and cost even less than originally quoted.

Been taking all my cars there for around 7 years now. Always happy with my service. They have no problem if you want to supply your own parts to speed up the repair time, and the free shuttle service is always nice. Jeff and his wife are always very pleasant to deal with.
