These guys are great. Honest, trustworthy, won’t try to upsell you. They do the job at hand and do it well. I had an appointment scheduled for next week for brakes and my brakes got worse the last two days. I called this morning and they are making room for me today. I’ll keep taking my vehicles here over and over and over again. I live on the south side of Ann Arbor and it’s worth it to pass all the garages here to go to Hamburg.
We have been coming to The Detroit Garage in Hamburg for years. They have consistently provided excellent service and advice, and very fair pricing. We recommend them to everyone, and trust them with both of our cars. The few times they have sent us elsewhere (such as for bodywork), they have provided great, trustworthy recommendations. Truly high-quality and professional all around!
I have been taking my car to the Hamburg Garage for many years and I’m more than satisfied with quality of work, ability to have maintenance and repairs done at times that are convenient for me, and especially helpful and courteous employees.
Predictably Consistent. They get right to the problem and deal with it. They are more like friends than your typical Automechanics. I like that they don't upsell me on anything!
I'm a newer costumer to The Detroit Garage. However, both times I've been there they've been very helpful! Prices were reasonable, timing on repairs was better than expected, and everyone has been very friendly. I feel confident in returning for future auto needs.
Latest:
Blew a tire, damaged a second, and bent the rim on the lovely MI roads. Slapped on my spare and limped to the HG. They took me in and wedged me into their schedule. Rim and tires had to be ordered so I decided to replace all 4 with better than the OEM as they were already 2/3 through their life expectancy and it was more cost effective. Everything was in the next day and I drove over for the installation. Great experience, car better than before, team was awesome to work with. Nothing new there.
What was extra impressive was what happened while I was waiting.
It was already after 5pm and the weather and roads were terrible. A young woman pulled in and came in saying her vehicle was overheating and she didn't know what to do and pleaded for help. A couple of the guys went outside and helped her with her vehicle. They filled her empty coolant overflow and eventually determined that something was still wrong. Based on the symptoms, they suspected the water pump. They explained that it was too late in the day to begin work on it or to get parts. She said she couldn't be without her vehicle and had to be at work the next day. Her intent was to drive it and pull over as needed to let the engine cool down. Rather than let her risk damage to her engine or end up stranded, they squeezed her into the schedule and gave her a loaner car for the duration. Incredible service from a group that simply cares. I was pretty impressed with the crew as most places would send you packing. Yet, it didn't end there...
While the aforementioned transpired, another woman came in. She had been on the highway when her dash went dark. She got off the highway and searched for the closest shop. Lucky for her, it was the HG. She had a long way to go in the miserable weather conditions and did not know what to do. Mitch and the guys went out into the snow again and immediately started troubleshooting her electrical system. They were able to determine that her battery and alternator were fine. They were also able to determine that the issue was most likely a defective connection in the dashboard as is common with her particular model. As there was no risk to being stranded, she felt reassured that she could continue her drive safely. When she asked how much she owed for their service, Mitch replied "nothing".
These are folks who put people and their safety far above profit. It's rare to see that kind of caring and service nowadays. And it is exactly why my entire family continues to trust only the HG with their vehicles. Don't ever change, HG.

Always a great experience at the Hamburg Garage. Mitch and his crew are professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely just really nice friendly people. The work they do is top notch and the costs are quite reasonable. The added benefit of a full multi-page report on every detail of the vehicle, with colour pictures, is above and beyond. I always leave with full confidence that my vehicle is nothing less than tip-top and ready for the road.
I have been a customer of The Detroit Garage - Hamburg location for a few years for my Honda and Chevy. Their work has always been great. They get work completed in a reasonable time frame, at reasonable prices. The office is always helpful to explain work needed now versus work that can wait (especially helpful when you’re on a budget). They always follow up to make sure your vehicle is running smoothly. We definitely recommend them to others.
Wow, I just came here to leave a bad review after an alignment service I received a couple days ago and see someone else just left a review with a nearly identical experience. I came in for an alignment and was told my vehicle was unable to be aligned unless I had a new steering rack installed (big $$$$). Oddly, I took it to another local shop right after who aligned it with zero problems.
Took my car in for an alignment, and they tried to say I needed a new rack and pinion tie rods, ball joints And wheel bearing. Quoted me Almost $3000. Took my car home replaced one ball joint that had a stripped thread, Then took my car to Bell tire for an alignment and everything checked out good. As for the rack and pinion, it has not lost any fluid from the reservoir 5 Months after they told me it was leaking. This place will Lie and tell you things need fixing when they don’t need to be fixed if I didn’t have any mechanical knowledge, I would have agreed with them and spent almost 3000 versus the $140 I spent to fix the issue. Don’t take your car here.
I took my 2016 Honda Odyssey back to Hamburg Garage when my battery died. They replaced my battery and always take care of my car care needs. I will be back next time I need service.
Mitch & David are very customer service oriented. I called Mitch 2 hours before they closed, because I was getting a coolant low warning and had a long trip next day. He told me to come over, topped off the fluids and didn’t charge me anything. I have been going there for several years and highly recommend them!
Staff was very professional and friendly. The estimate was WAY over priced...close to 3000.00 my boyfriend noticed that the estimate included parts that had already been replaced. I went to another repair place in Novi...Got my alignment, and all parts replaced for $800....I have heard from another friend that this garage is WAY over in costs!
I have been going to The Hamburg Garage for oil changes and routine maintenance, but this year it was for a very major repair! I want to thank Mitch and his crew for being patient with my stress over that situation and for working with me on my multiple payments. They do a great job, and always keep me updated on what needs to be done.

I am grateful I can trust the staff to do what is needed and to also alert me to things to plan for based on ware seen that day. They go above and beyond to make sure they check everything they know about to make sure I am safe when I drive out and all the extra inspection, pictures, and consultation are included in even a simple oil change. Mitch and Dave and everyone at The Detroit Garage in Hamburg are fantastic. Once I found them, it’s the only place I go now. They are professional and make sure me and my truck are taken care of, with fair prices and prompt service. They’ve handled everything I’ve needed and are on top of everything my truck needs. They are great at follow up, and taking care of follow-up fixes, and follow-up after-care. Nobody else touches my vehicle now. I heartily recommend them if you need something done on your car.
EDITED TO ADD: I’ve returned to Detroit Garage to follow up on an old, nagging problem, and I’m thrilled that Mitch and the team were able to resolve that issue. The only “problem” was they needed to keep it for a couple days, which is a problem for me to be without a vehicle. Mitch happily and quickly set me up with a loaner. I couldn’t be happier with the mechanical work and the customer service! Thanks, you guys!
So being a busy couple, we don’t have a lot of time for vehicles to set in a shop. That’s why we chose Detroit garage. They get us in, diagnose any issues and give a solid quote for repairs. Shout out to Mitch. He is an awesome service manager. Highly recommended
I bring all my cats to Hamburg Garage, even my Mercedes. They do all of my repairs, oil changes and maintenance. They do great work and the guys are really nice to work with. I trust them and know they won’t take advantage of me
Showed up after they closed needing help with a small tire from a piece of yard equipment and they helped me get my issue taken care of. Super nice people as well! They just gained a customer too! I’ll be back with my truck!
Lived here over 25 years and this was my first visit. Wish I had found sooner. Incredible service from ease of scheduling, rapid turnover of repair and non-pressured guidance of repairs that might be coming on my 12 year old car but not critical at this moment. Will definitely be back
Tuesday was the 2nd time I took my car to The Detroit Garage in Hamburg to be fixed. A friend took his truck there and had been pleased with their work. Both times I have been there the staff were pleasant and helpful because I know nothing about cars. They have done excellent and timely work. I have not had one problem with anything they have fixed and will always take my car to them for an repairs it needs. I have total confidence that anything they have worked on will be done well and be totally fixed.
We’ve had luck here in the past with good service but this time they even surpassed that! I went in for an oil change and to diagnose why my van was suddenly randomly overheating. Turns out I had a radiator leak. I needed my van in good driving order since we had a long drive with all of the space needed for my family of 5 and all of our things for a dance competition the next day. I wasn’t feeling hopeful but Mitch said he would do his best to have it ready for me by 1:30 the next day- just under 24 hours later. 12:57 he called and it was ready!!! It is running wonderfully and I will always choose them for all of my vehicle needs. They care about their customers and do everything to help.
Shannon and the gentleman I spoke with (I didn't catch his name) were extremely helpful and friendly, and communicated well the maintenance my car needed. They were able to provide competitive pricing, quick turnaround, and I am extremely satisfied with the services they provided. Definitely recommend this shop, and will be returning in the future for any work my car needs.
I've used them 3 times over the last few years for smaller jobs of mounting tires on wheels that I have purchased sperate, always been a pleasure to deal with, always done when or before they have quoted
We are so grateful for our experience with Hamburg Garage. We are on our way back to Virginia, ending a two week road trip, and the guys at Hamburg worked us in quickly to plug a flat tire. They could not have been more helpful and professional!!! We are safely back on the road in less than 30 minutes!
