they sell garbage vehicles that still need work even though they have a mechanic shop there.. they take advantage of the elderly to sell garbage vehicles to just to make a penny. it's absolutely greed. please stay away from this place they won't work with you to get a refund without 100% ripping you off

I don't recommend doing business with Keven Kerns at Kerns Auto in Chelsea. My bother-in-law purchased a used car 5 days before he had serious stoke, he's still in the hospital, so we called Keven and he said yes he would buy back the car and when my nephew brought the car back, Keven wanted to buy the car back for $1500 less then the $5000 price tag on his invoice. Really?? making money on a stroke victim. Great business practices. So if anyone needs a used car we will be happy to sell it. Headed for Market Place - I was not going to let him rob the family of $1500.

Great service center in the Chelsea Michigan area. Recently had my 2015 town and country van serviced here for a hard to fix list of problems . Service writer Jeff and mechanic Alex did a excellent job diagnosing and repairing the list of problems I didn't want to service myself. Short wait till scheduled service date. Excellent workmanship and fair service rates. Quick turnaround time. Highly recommended by a person who usually does his own auto service and repairs. Five stars.

These guys went out of their way to help me fix a difficult problem on a large international truck they had no knowledge of, they saved me a lot of money and time, going out of their way for me. In a world where everybody's too busy trying to make a dollar, it's compassionate like this i appreciate from a business. If i'm ever in town, I will recommend them every time to anyone in the area

do NOT come here!!!! paid $2,000 to get new brakes and something in my tire fixed. my TIRE FELL OFF while driving going 60mph, could’ve died. all because they forgot to tighten my lug nuts on my tire when i had it worked on because they “forgot”. took a week to fix after having to get a whole new tire rim and gave me a broke down not working rental car. was never refunded my money.

These people are nothing less than saints. Very helpful and genuinely kind people who were able to help me in a pinch. Will be coming here for repairs from this point forward.

Horrible experience here. Called about my headlights not working. Mentioned on the phone and in person that it may be an electrical problem since they both when out at the same time or could just need new bulbs. I also asked for a full synthetic oil change and was quoted $75 for that. I was told the work wouldn't take long, I said I was flexible. I received a call several hours later that the car was ready and I could pick it up until 5:30. I arrived just after 5 and there was no one around. A different person than the guy I checked in with eventually came out of the garage. He was super disrespectful towards me. Hard to say if it's because I'm a woman or queer-presenting or what but he kept seeming like he was barely listening to me, and looking at my boyfriend instead of me. When I finally got the receipt and key from him I go to check my lights and they don't work. I also looked at the paperwork and saw I was given synthetic blend oil instead of full synthetic but charged $80 for the oil change alone since no work was done on the lights. I went back inside but the guy had disappeared and I didn't have time to wait for him to possibly come back. This was a Friday so I had to wait until Monday to call about this. On Monday I called and asked what had gone wrong. The same person I talked to when I dropped the car off (I believe) told me that the lights work fine I just had them turned off. Right so you're telling me I don't know how to operate the lights in my own car that I've had for five years. Cool. I said that was absolutely not the case. I also asked why I was given a synthetic blend and charged more than I was quoted for full synthetic. He said he would look into these issues and call me back. I waited three days and never received a call back. I'm pretty disgusted by the whole experience. Not exactly sure why they thought it was fine to swap the type of oil they used without asking me or adjusting the price, or call to discuss the issue with the lights instead of just doing nothing and telling me the car was ready. Also not sure why I was treated like second class citizen through this whole process but I have a pretty good idea. I'd say avoid this shop in general but especially if you are female or queer-presenting.

Been taking my truck here for repairs that are outta my expertise, the owner, and mechanics are very knowledgeable. Definitely a shop I can recommend, they are very honest, good people, and the price is very honest too they won't cost you an arm and a leg, usually I would supply my own parts for reasons Because majority of the time I know what is wrong with my truck, and sometimes I don't. Took it here Friday 26th for electrical issue, they found the issue and fixed it, I couldn't be more happier my truck was driving like it did when I bought it. I definitely will keep doing business with them

I had the best & friendliest service at Kern’s repair shop. I had a flat fire & they got it taken care of, plus went above & beyond for me. I truly appreciate customer service like this.

I have had Kern Auto work on my vehicles for the last 15 years. They do just what is needed in a timely manner. Recommend.

My car was misfiring on westbound 94 in Chelsea and I decided to have it towed here to save a money on towing to a AAA registered mechanic. Using Google maps to get there leads you to a trailer park in a large field and the information they supplied on Google regarding hours of operation are incorrect. Still not sure if they have an actual parking lot. Regardless, they were able to replace my battery and spark plugs during business hours and within a day, no less. Communication was great however labor was very expensive. Talked to multiple mechanics afterwards and each one indicated that I had been overcharged on labor by about $200. Most likely either because I am a woman and I don't know any better or because having my car towed there, indicated that I would be forced to pay whatever price they proposed.

You'll always get a fair price at Kerns. We regularly take our cars here, and considering we have three cars and two teenage drivers...it's quite often. We love kerns!

First time stop in here, Kevin the owner was super helpful and friendly and all employees who walked thru asked if I was helped or if I needed anything. Great experience and super friendly and very FAIR! I live 25+ miles away, but will absolutely come here for my further needs, great people and I wish them the very best in their new location. Thanks Kevin, you have a great staff and I am looking forward to doing more business in the very near future.

I was very happy with their service. It was an older spare ride and I didn't want to spend a fortune. So I asked if there was an alternative fix and they found an excellent option to the repair needed. I will definitely use them again, if I need any future repairs.

Good, honest, straightforward people who are going to do their best. They didn't have to stay late on a Friday to make sure I was safe on the road but they did. Every single guy in the shop is kind! The negative reviews on here are HIGHLY inaccurate based on my experience. Thank you!

Driving down freeway and felt like we were losing control. Pulled into the Auto Shop they put the car up on a hoist and checked to make sure it was safe to drive. The car was fine and they didn’t charge me, just wanted to make sure I was safe. Great group of men.

Kevin and the staff are great. Very helpful and strive to get you back on the road. He takes the time to help you and explain what is needed to be done. Been going there for 3 years and am most definitely going to be back.

John and Doug at Kern’s helped me navigate Chelsea, a city unfamiliar to me, when my car tire blew out. They didn’t have the tire available, but called friends of theirs who gave me a great deal on a fix. Thank you for everything guys- I am truly grateful!

I struggled with how many stars to give. I was not happy with the service so that ruled out five stars. They didn't do any service on my car which is explained later so I can't rate them on quality of work and pricing. On the other hand they were professional, courteous, and the shop was well lit and looked clean so I ended up with two stars. I will elaborate on that a little more later. Please compare my complaints with others and a common thread will become apparent. I wish them all the best but they did cause me some grief. The Google business hours says they close at 6pm which nearly got me in trouble. Fortunately, someone was still there when I showed up at 30 minutes past the actual closing time. I had made an appointment one week in advance to leave my car there for an entire day. I brought the care in on the appointed day at 9am. I was hoping to get a ride home like they do down the street at -a---- (a competitor). They tried to see if there was a way but came up empty handed. The plan was that they would call me when the car was done so that I could pick it up. By 6pm, the end of the day (or what I THOUGHT was closing time) I had not received a call so I figured they just neglected to call. Not so. I got a ride to the shop and found it locked up--closed. The closing time was actually 5:30pm! Just looking at the car I could see that it had not been touched. Then somebody came to the door and opened it. He said if I could leave it for the next day they could get to it then. Wait a minute...you broke one promise. Why should I believe you could do it the next day? I said, "No way, Jose. Just give me the keys and we will call it even-steven." If everybody had gone home and I didn't have an extra key with me I would have been SOL with no access to my car for the next day. I would like to mention also that had I thought about it I would have checked with -a---- in Chelsea first. That's where I get all my automotive service done but for this I had a special application I had received a referral to Kerns for. I had some body work done around the corner at Gerber Collision (whom I was happy with) and they gave me the referral to Kerns. I just didn't think of -a----. -a----- has a service where they offer a ride home when you drop off your car. They don't try to find a ride. It is part of their service. Kerns had a golden opportunity with me. They had the unlikely possibility to win me as a new repeat customer. Ordinarily I would not have brought my car there and they had an opportunity to show me their stuff. In summation, my big complaint is an inattentiveness to my needs and convenience. The shop looked very clean, was well lit, and the staff professional so I am guessing that they do good work at reasonable prices. If, however, you depend on a promise from them you may find yourself on the short end of the stick.

So helpful! I got a check engine light on my way from Detroit to Kalamazoo and had no idea where to go. They ran the code for me, explained what happened, and resolved my issue in 10 minutes. Fantastic guys.

The jeepster was leaking gas and I couldn’t get her in to anyone in town. Called Kerns and they said bring it in and we will take a look to see where the leak is coming from..got there, Kevin showed me where the coffee stand is and it was on him, showed me a booth to wait at while they took a look at the leak. Found the problem, he said they are short handed, yet they’d try to get it fit in to fix that day and handed me keys to a loaner until fixed....WOW..that’s service! Thank you Kerns for the friendly and experienced knowledge on getting the jeepster back on the road safely ~ I’m grateful ~

Terrible service getting my car worked on!! The old owner was extremely rude everytime I checked on my car which took over a month for them to fix an issue that should have only taken two days at the most...do not go here, they overcharge, their service is disgusting...go anywhere other than this place you will regret it I promise everything on this. Please listen and don't go, save your money

I used Kern to replace a tire and they did the job well enough. However, to get a perfect rating I think they should have gone above and beyond to at least check the air pressure on the other tires and fill them if needed. That only takes about 5 min of effort. They clearly didn't do that as my other tires were still low on pressure due to the cold. Also, there was no invoice or warranty on the tire...just a receipt from the gas station. Again, no complaints about the tire they replaced, just think that my view is to go that extra step.

My daughter took her car to Kerns to have it reapired. She told them that she started work in two weeks, so she need her car ready by then. They said that it would be ready by the next day. Two weeks later, on the Friday before she was to start work, she goes to pick up her car, and they informed my daughter that it wasn't ready. They said that the new part they put in was not the problem, so the would have to order the part that they need on Monday. They did not call her to let her know that the car would not be ready. Now she is out $250.00 and the car is the same way it was when she took it to them, and she has no way to get to work on Monday. This is not the way to run a business. We will never do business with KERN again.

My car broke down on the way to work today and I was towed to Kern's. As a young woman, this would normally be a headache to deal with a shop because they usually try to take advantage of anyone they suspect to have no knowledge of cars. Kern Auto Sales is not one of those shops. They gave me a fair price for the fix, were very friendly, and were very flexible between fixing my car that day and pick-up.

The Kerns always get my car right in even if they're really busy. They tell me what needs to be fixed and what can wait. They don't just do repairs that don't need to be done so they can charge. I love that it's a local, family owned business. Very convenient that you can pick your keys up after hours from the 24 hour gas station. I've had several cars serviced there, including my work cars. The work is always well done.

Family owned and operated American business. Great service, friendly knowledgeable staff, nice affordable cars on the lot. If you need some work done on your vehicle or you're looking to buy a new used vehicle I highly recommend Kern Auto. I hear they even have good food for lunch, I haven't stopped in for food yet though. Their certified mechanics make sure all the vehicles they sell are in good working order which is nice compared to just a regular private sale. It's a good piece of mind knowing that it's been thoroughly inspected and any necessary repairs have been done already. 🇺🇸⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🇺🇸
