Absolutely horrible place to load up at. Been here over 2 hrs. I got loaded and got on scale. Then sat for 15 minutes after they said paperwork would be just a few minutes. Then a yard guy said they needed me back in the dock. So I do. Now they are completely unloading me and reloading me all over. Went to ask a dock person what's going on all to find out they dont speak English and they couldn't understand me. Went back to the window to ask what's going on and they told me to wait in my truck and yard manager would be over to explain what's going on. Never did see that yard manager. Us truckers dont get paid to just sit around and wait
"Very bad company! I do not recommend it! They don’t know how to work! Companies like this should go bankrupt! It took me 1 hour to get to the truck scale! Loading takes 4.5 hours! Metal! I do not recommend! There were 3 trucks ahead of me in the scale line!"
If you're a semi driver, do NOT come here. It's tight as all get out, and you'll be dodging locals the whole time. Not to mention, you have about a 87% chance of having a blow out sometime after you leave here. They do NOT maintain their area, and it's got debris scattered everywhere.
Unfair Treatment and Questionable Practices at GLE
I was recently kicked out of GLE after standing up for fair treatment. A Hi-Lo driver, who appeared to be tipped by another customer, placed their bin on the scale ahead of mine—even though I had been waiting. When I and another individual protested by standing on the scale, the Hi-Lo operator aggressively placed the bin on the scale anyway. In frustration and protest, we removed the bin ourselves. For this, I was banned.
What’s especially troubling is the double standard. While I was penalized for speaking up, I’ve witnessed others bring in materials that raised serious red flags. Some of these individuals have reportedly been investigated by DTE and even the FBI for alleged involvement in scrap theft—yet they continue to do business there with no issue. I can’t say whether the materials were stolen, but the pattern is alarming.
This experience has left me with serious concerns about the ethics and integrity of this yard. I encourage others to consider where they take their business.
Solid operation in a fast paced industry that its very easy to cause major mistakes where people can get hurt or worst. The peeps who work the small scale are kool. They kindly disposed of a SAFE i brought that I now know is not accepted..
A black lady with glasses was at the window very rude looked right at me and ignored me fianally after 7 min i said am i at the right place to get paid then she snapped at me and said yes in a very rude tone acted like i was disturbing her while i was out there freezing in 10 degree weather very unprofessional
Don't go to this location they are not honest at all tell you one price and when you get your voucher TOTALLY RIPPED OFF Let this be your last resort VERY RUDE STAFF INSENSITIVE NOT CONCERNED AT ALL
I used to be a regular there dropping off loads of scrap multiple times a week. they damaged my truck on 2 different occasions, they didn't take any responsibility for their actions. I ended up having to replace the entire truck bed because they dropped a 2200 lb pizza oven on the side. Mistakes happen so I gave them another chance - their systems were down when I was dropping off a load one day, they told me to leave and that I would be able to collect my money any other day. When I went back they denied everything and refused to pay me. Overall super unprofessional and wouldn't recommend to anybody unless your looking to get scammed and have your property damaged.
If you’re coming to pick up or drop off in a semi come with patience. Watch your angles, It’s a tight busy yard. Employees were professional and courteous. Weight was on the money. Thank you
Pretty slow lowest payout around, I feel totally ripped off when I go there then go to other yards. Staff cool and friendly only complaints is I don’t understand how they pay so low with all the scrap yards nearby paying almost twice as much
Too small for semi…. Slide your tandems forward. Swing as wide as you can. Every inch matters here. Do not pull in to the yard unless directed by employees. Park on the street. Will get you out otherwise. Heavy civilians traffic out here. Will jump you all the time. Once when you pass all this horror, they’ll send you to a “shipping” docks. You must be really good. No space to straightening the rig. Must find the right angle. Once you’re loaded back on the scale. When you’re done pull from the scale continuously (without stopping) but don’t exceed 5mph so they can get load “heat” reading (somehow they forgot to mention). They didn’t catch mine so I looped again (another 10-15 min). After all that two hours and 45 min in my case, you’re good to go Sucks, I know. Far away from 5 star rating but people are trying hard here.
Wouldn't recommend to anyone, very rude staff as they assume you should now there process and become frustrated if u don't! I'm also sure there drive on scale is not accurate or only good for large semi loads! Scale bounces 20- 100 pounds while parked in same spots and varys more so in different spots. Seems pretty sketchy to me!!
Don't trust the 5 star ratings because they pay 5 dollars if you show them a good rating. They are incompetent and took nearly an hour to process one cart of copper and get me the receipt, afterwards refused to mail me a check and mailed me a receipt which I then had to bring back to get my cash out of their atm, which they charged me a fee for using, and also if you don't bring back the receipt within a month they take your money.
I am the owner of liquid sun and I have been using gle for a long time the place is very professional and I won't take my scrap or business anywhere else
Awesome experience! The gentleman running the hi-low bringing out the bins was super helpful in guiding me as to where I needed to go and what to do. I will definitely be going here from now on.
They never answer the phone to answer questions. No signs or directions to help new customers. But staff are more than happy to yell at you for breaking rules you don't know. Rude and unhelpful staff. Website isn't helpful for answering questions you cant ask by the phone they don't answer. So you run the risk of loading up your truck to do a drop off of things they don't accept. You get told off for not knowing they don't accept it. And have to haul it all the way back home. When the process could have been avoided altogether by say... I don't know... Answering your phone, listing on your website... Crazy common sense things like that. The only reason we even go there is because any other place isn't worth the trip in gas money.
I will happily drive the 20 miles to Milford to take my business there, when GLE refused to take my business. Apparently the type of vehicle that you use to transport your scrap to them has to be to their liking or they shoo you out of the yard. My vehicle was not rusty, old, broke down or in any way necessary for them to push me away. Very rude, will never recommend people here.
I have been going to to facility on Sherwood, for several years. I think most of the staff is very accommodating. Tim in the non-ferrous portion is exceptionally friendly, and always willing to help.
The only issue I have,is people throwing off older TV'S, with the glass, and items that are more plastic than metal. I hope this will become more supervised, the glass is dangerous to tires, and other people.
