First impressions mean everything to me, and my first experience at Skips was great. I’m not sure if I spoke with the owner or manager, but both employees were very nice and greeted me warmly. I explained that I had just bought a cash car and wasn’t feeling too confident about it because my heater had stopped working.
Instead of brushing me off or guessing, he told me to just keep a positive mindset and bring the car in so he could personally check it out. I appreciated that he didn’t try to take advantage of me or make me feel like just another number. The vibe I got was genuine—like he actually cared about making sure I was taken care of.
I wasn’t able to come back the next day, but I will definitely be back to have them check out and service my car. They seemed very knowledgeable, and most importantly, they were kind and sweet. I really look forward to working with them.
I called to ask if I could bring in my own brake pads and rotors for installation. The person who answered was extremely rude — they said “no” and then immediately put me on hold without letting me ask anything else. After a few moments, the call ended. I didn’t even get a chance to clarify or have a conversation. Very unprofessional and dismissive. I’ll take my business to a shop that actually respects its customers.
Skip’s put a transmission in my wife’s Yukon. Not a cheap job. They gave the most reasonable price. They’ve now done her shocks and struts, brake job all around and other work I can’t remember. It’s all holding up great. The fella that sits in the front, I think the owner, is a genuinely nice guy. I will continue to have repairs done here and would recommend for sure.
My journey at Skips Auto repair started 20 years ago when I worked across the street. Even though I no longer work in the area, I still only go to Skip’s passing up repair shops along the way including those shops that AAA encourages me to tow my vehicle too in which I’ll receive a 15% discount. However, for myself, loyalty goes a long way when you’re comfortable and have trust. Skips has always delivered with a fair price, professional service, high standards, and the integrity of finding out the root cause of the issue. I feel I’ve never been up sold or been steered into additional repairs/expenses, and they don’t use scare tactics that make you feel you need to do repairs immediately that may not be needed yet. Instead, they only inform you of what they see that may result in future issues or in need of repair/replacement in the near future. So, with each visit, I feel I’m only paying for what is necessary to get my vehicle in a drivable condition, typically resolving the issue I took it in for. I’ve never walked away from Skip’s feeling I broke the bank or spent more that I needed too.
Even though I’ve been going for 20yrs, this is my first review. I just need to commend the team at Skips for the patience they had with my 3yr old truck in diagnosing a sporadic non-starting issue. This issue was not an easy one to trace or identify, it did not show up with a scan, nor did the issue occur enough allowing a technician to easily duplicate the issue for proper diagnoses. After dealing with this issue for a few months, I just concluded that the only way to rectify this issue is to leave it with Skips until the non-starting issue occurs for them. What I appreciate here is the patience and space of allowing my vehicle to stay with them for over a week. They spent the time not only starting the vehicle several times each day, but driving it around, parking and unparking, just waiting for the issue to occur for them. Again, this was a 3yr old truck with 38K millage, just out of warranty. To most and even I considered it, would be to take it back to the dealer for review. However, in my mind I felt I would not get the attention needed to properly diagnose this issue with a dealer, would they spend over a week starting my truck several times a day and allow it to remain on their lot for over a week. I feel the fee for this attention would be astronomical with a dealer and that I would have received a call after 2-3 days to come and pick up my vehicle as their not seeing an issue with it.
Granted the dealer presupposition is just an assumption. However, my overall point is, I knew based on my previous experience with Skip’s that they were the one shop that I knew would truly work with me through this issue and not leave me stranded or unsatisfied. I’m truly appreciative for this auto repair shop in my life, as it’s obvious to me their driven by providing customer satisfaction and not necessarily dollar signs. I’ve been loyal to Skip’s for 20yrs and will remain loyal until Skip’s or I is no longer around, LOL.
Great job, prices reasonable, friendly people, explains everything. If finds other problems, do not pressure you to get it done now. Keeps promise when car be done. I trust them!! My sister and I go there!
I "drove" the car in to have 3 issues fixed at 8am. I picked up the car more broken than how I left it at 5pm. The shop fully acknowledged they do not know how to fix all cars, contrary to their own shop signage, and ALL future customers should be warned. Skip and his cashier were disrespectful, lied, and showed no accountability to the damage they caused and blamed the customer. The car was never repaired and was "towed" immediately to a real automotive repair shop.
EDIT: The response from "Tom Brady" in customer service below is absolutely disingenuous. They have treated a customer, of over 20 years and works nearby, this way. It won't be the last.. Customers be warned, again. They hide their names, faces, and accountability for a simple human error and broken plastic. Avoidance does not erase accountability. Their hollow defense has become more important than their reputation as a proper repair shop. Your money deserves fair and honest service. Not what you will find at Skips any longer. Ownership must have changed. Shame.
EDIT 2: There are 2 responses from this shop below that are failed attempts at trying to change the narrative and perception of this honest and accurate review of an incident that has proper evidence to prove it true. This shop is trying to manipulate this story and, in turn, speaks to the lack of integrity of the shop and its cowardly ownership that couldn't speak to a long time customer as normal adults. Continue to beware of this business. Obviously, no lesson has been learned as they continue to act like children in response to this review.
Auto ER is an excellent shop. I've been going there for 26 years, getting my work vans worked on. Wouldn't be as successful as I am without them, I consider them part of my team thank you gentlemen!!

Each of the team are experts at auto care and try real hard at customer service - saved me over $300 vs the dealership and the dealership did not even identify the right component! They even took the time to show me the halfshaft they replaced and how it has failed. These guys are the best, most honest mechanics around, period.
I loved their honesty about what was wrong with my van and didn’t try to add extra things to be fixed and their prices were fair. I have recommended them to my friends

got an engine replaced here… it lasted almost 70k miles before i had to replace the head gasket both valve covers and my oil pan because they were all leaking. they skimp on everything they do here and are extremely rude while they do it. DONT BOTHER COMING HERE TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE, CANT SAY I DIDNT WARN YOU

Been going here for years now. Small business that treats you like family. They have taken good care of my car, and the pricing is very fair and resonable.
The mechanic there was very rude and judgmental. The tire on my car had a blowout so we had to leave it there because it was the closest place to drive it to till morning. When I went back the next day to have them help me put my spare on because we couldn't get it off to put it on, the mechanic made a snod comment saying it looked like I live out of my car. Mind you I am a full time college who also works. The only thing that was in my car was blankets due to we just had an event where we made blankets. I do not recommend this place. UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING JUDGED!!
Skip’s Auto ER is one of the most honorable and trustworthy repair shops I’ve ever been to. Paul is not there just to sell a service and his honesty is greatly appreciated. Years ago after my old mechanic shop closed down, my brother recommended Skips to me. Overall they make you feel comfortable being there, especially Santo who takes time to explain what’s going on with your car and what needs to happen now and what can wait for a bit. I’ve been coming back anytime something is wrong and I always feel like I’m in good hands. I realized I’ve been verbally recommending this place to friends, family, and coworkers but I haven’t wrote a review for others to find this place. Go to Skips!!
Took my car in today for service as a new customer. The men were super friendly and helpful and I had my car fixed same day. Very good pricing and very helpful when explaining what was going on. Highly recommend I love mom and pop shops they care more
Skip and his team replaced my alternator and belts a week ago. I thought the job would be expensive but turned out to be in my opinion affordable. I was fortunate they were able to take care of me same day. I'm glad I stopped in a couple days prior and met who I believed to be the Owner and heard his business philosophy. I'm thankful the vehicle is moving again I've had it parked for months unable to make the time to do the repair myself. Also while performing the work they noticed a potential future issue they notified me of that I'm closely monitoring. The quote they provided for the future repair was reasonable since I have first hand experience on the difficulty level.
I have used Skip's Auto for the last 15 years for two of my own trucks and one of my mother's. Paul is the most awesome and best mechanic that I know. He is very honest and trustworthy. He tells you exactly what you need and does not bullsh*t you on things that you don't need. He also will not allow you to drive a vehicle if he deems it unsafe. As a single woman, it's very hard to find an honest mechanic. I have 110% trust in Paul at Skip's Auto. I have recommended this company to all of my friends and family. I drive 76 miles (one way) to have him service my baby; a 2005 Chevy Avalanche and she purrs like a kitten. When Paul retires, maybe then I will have to find a new mechanic. Until then I will continue to entrust my vehicle to Skip's Auto shop
Skips Auto ER is the ONLY place we will ever take our vehicles to. They truly are honest (I guarantee other places would have taken full advantage of the situation) Their prices are fair! The guys that work there are so friendly & courteous. I've referred friends and strangers to Skips, and those I could hear back from had positive things to say about them as well. These guys are great! Excellent customer service. Fixed the AC compressor on my 2015 Subaru WRX. Was super willing to work with my 3rd party warranty company which as you can imagine was a pain in the butt for them. Drive my car from Detroit to Montreal and back and she ran like a Swiss watch. Friendly, prompt, quality work…can’t beat it! I’ll be back when the next thing goes wrong.
Update 6/28/22: drove 1,600 miles to Montreal and back, and the AC was ice cold the whole time. Excellent work!
We've had major and minor repairs done at Skips. Every repair was handled professionally and friendly. They get the job done in a timely manner and are always costs conscious to keep the final bill as reasonable as possible. You can trust everyone at Skip's to do a great job!
My water pump blew suddenly and I was fortunate enough to break down close to this place. I checked online quick and they had good reviews so I gave it a shot. They took my vehicle in just before closing and were very friendly and helpful. They called early the next day and everything was repaired and cleaned up and the cost was very reasonable. I would definitely do business with them again.
My family and I have been going to Skips for many years now. We’ve had quite a few cars and we’ve taken them all here because we know we’re going to get amazing service and reasonable prices. All the mechanics there are great but Paul is amazing and really knows cars! I highly recommend to anyone!
