We recently switched to Herringtons from another trash company and LOVE it. We are saving hundreds of dollars this year between trash & yard waste. They are extremely responsive via email and have made the transition very easy. We are extremely happy with our service & experience with Herringtons!

The office is the problem. I had issues getting a garbage can delivered and when I called to inquire, received teenager-level attitude from a grown woman. I now see hand written passive aggressive comments are included on my mailed bill (PS: use a phone or email, it's 2026). I'll likely cancel my service by the end of the day, it would be cheaper to take a can to the dump on 10 mile once a week anyway, and wouldn't have to deal with whatever emotions are going on in that office. That is not a way to act toward people you want to do business with.

We are so glad we switched from GFL. I have forgotten to get my can out a couple of times and I'll put it out late hoping they will see it and every single time they get it. They go out of their way to take care of their customers. GFL will tell you Good Freaking Luck.

I have had Harrington's waste services for a few years now. I switched due to price, Harrington's being cheaper. I have not been disappointed. Trash gets picked up on time. I have had positive interactions with the waste haulers. I have spoken with staff on the phone, those interactions have also been positive.

I'm surprised by all the negative reviews. We LOVE Harringtons in my NE GR neighborhood. I switched from Granger 3 years ago after my neighbor recommended them. Since then I recommended them to my neighbor across the street, and one down the block. We are all very happy with the service, and you just can't beat the price (especially if you pay the year in advance). They've never missed a pick up, and once when I called after hours Mr. Harrington himself picked up the phone and answered my questions. - Kendra Krueger

If I could give zero stars I would. The 1st week of service they missed pick up so I called and they finally picked up. 2nd week of service they missed again on Thursday. After 14 calls and now Monday I’m told they don’t have anyone in the area today. What a joke! Heaping trash in front of my house becythey cannot pull it off. Cancelled. Quick to take your money. Not so quick to do what they are paid to do

We’ve been using Herringtons for a few years now and have had consistent issues. The office is so hard to get ahold of and the guys actually picking up the trash may or may not come on your scheduled date. When they don’t come and you have extra bags of trash the next week, they won’t take those either. When you call to ask the office, you probably won’t be able to reach them either. So I send an email and they say they’ll send someone out. The guys came back and spilled trash all over my driveway and to top it off gave me attitude that I had too much trash. When my trash doesn’t get picked up for 2 weeks….yep got a lot of it. This company sucks. They may be the cheapest but you most definitely pay for what you get with these guys. Do not recommend ever.

We had the unfortunate situation of someone stealing our trash bin right before a long holiday weekend. After messaging Herrington’s the day of the holiday, they messaged back the next day (a Saturday) and communicated quickly and promptly. They were kind, alleviated any concerns that I had, and had the new trash bin delivered by Monday, and we never missed a trash pickup! Can’t say enough about how wonderful Herrington’s has been, and I look forward to continuing to be a loyal customer. I would recommend them to anyone! :)

We recently moved to a new home and began trash and recycling services. The first Monday both were to be collected, our house was somehow missed. It was difficult to get a hold of the company, but I was able to discuss the matter with them via email in which they apologized for the busy phone lines and immediately corrected the issue. They said they would see if trucks could come pick our trash and recycling up the same day and offered to let us have extra bags of trash and recycling by the toters the following Monday if they couldn't get to us. They did in fact pick up the trash and recycling that day. No issues, no attitude, just correcting the mistake and good customer service.

Driver drove on my yard putting 6" ruts in my irrigated yard put a rock on the corner then they moved trash cans on other side of driveway where they will get hit. So I called the office told them the situation toldtl them was going to cancel. He said he would look into it. And call me back never heard back. They picked up my trash cans today. Like there going to hurt my feelings. But they don't know I owed a dumpsters business so im going to be telling all my neighbors, I will have a 20 yd dumpster setting at my house free trash removal for anybody That wants it as they cancel there trash services with them House is off heintzelman Ave Rockford

I just moved into our house and we Ordered trash and recycling. We got trash can right away but never got our recycling can. I called about the recycling multiple times for and had a hard time reaching someone. Line was always busy. Our first pick up never got picked up. when I called and asked about it they they said we were one of the early pick ups so we should put it out the night before. Well now it's our 2nd pick up and it's 830 am and still trash has not gone through. And still haven't gotten our recycling bin. We call and canceled our serviced. 10 outta 10 would not recommend.

I switched to Harrington's from Republic Services. Republic services was charging me over $100 quarterly and kept comming up with ways to steal my money. Harrington's is $57 and seems to be doing a great job. Only 4 stars because one day my trashcan blew over immediately after the truck set it down, and they left it there.

Awful trash service. I emailed to set up as soon as we moved, 2 weeks ago. I didn’t get regular replies via email. I called to speed the process and the rude lady over the phone told me to wait for email response. Why? Can you not just handle my needs now? That’s okay though. Arrowaste is the way to go. Fast response, got me set up for service in one day.

Top-notch service, all the way around. Local folks who understand the importance of Customer Service, from contact with office personnel, to the actual service provided each week. An excellent alternative to the "too large to care" providers. Very happy I made the switch... highly recommended.

Don’t know what’s going on lately w/Herrington. Promising to get their garbage bin for 3 weeks now because we cancelled service. “Might be today, but no later than Monday for sure.” 3 weeks ago “You’re on the schedule for it to be picked up today” (2 week ago), “He’s out today & if not today, tomorrow for sure.” Last week. We asked if we can drop it off & they said “No. It’s not yours to do.” Tried calling Friday, no answer. Couldn’t leave a msg. ??♀️ Herrington said to leave it there for pick up. ??♀️??♀️??♀️ Funny thing is - at the bottom of the bill it states there’s a $200 fine for not returning it!??♀️ During either my 2nd or 3rd call, Jim said we wouldn’t be charged. FYI - the only reason we cancelled service is because we have 2-3 grocery size bags of trash & as often as we pass or visit Meijer, we decided to drop off at the station across the road along with/our recycle items. Our plan is to deliver the bin personally at 6632 Ramsdell NE, Rockford. It’s been sitting in our driveway for THREE WEEKS. We’ve been tempted to give it to a large family to use ??♀️ Seriously poor customer service.

We realized we had forgotten to bring our trash cans (that were super full out) too late in the morning. We went outside and saw that our cans were actually at the road. I looked at our camera and saw that two Herrington workers had sprinted and brought our cans from the side of our house to empty into the truck. THANK YOU so much for going above and beyond!! We appreciate it tremendously.

Completely not understanding of issues with setting up automatic payments on the worst payment site. Refuses to pick up the garbage even when the balance is now paid up. I had confirmation of payment made on Monday night when trash night is Wednesday. I called and made sure when they were in the area that I had paid the bill and should receive service on the route. They still left the area without service.

i live off the beaten path.. i’m not sure if any other service will cover where i’m at but i don’t have a reason to try and replace them! good service and on time and very early morning pick up. i was short of money 1 month and they accommodated me while catch my bills up. seems to be a simple easy going company that can help if you get behind. difficult to get a live rep on the phone and online payments are tricky but once you got it you are good to go

This company goes the extra mile. They're always on time, and do things above and beyond what we've come to accept with the larger companies. They don't have those claw trucks that spill trash and leave your bin open or tipped over. They have a person who hooks it to the truck, and I've actually seen him reach in to grab some stuck trash. Then he makes sure it's off the street and closed. Just all around great service for a better price. I couldn't be more pleased!

This place DOES NOT CARE about customers. I have given this company every opportunity to make things right with since my route was purchased a few years ago. I'm on week 4 of NO PICKUP! They PROMISED to make it right, AGAIN, this week yet I need to drag 3 stinky bins back into my garage. They're impossible to get ahold of, their phones never work. The ONLY reason I've stayed with them this long is because of Jim, but now he isn't meeting his promise to make things right either.

This company has serviced our family for waste service for quite some time now. They are very responsive anytime we need help, even coming out right away to fix our trash can when it was hot and broken by a passing car. We love that they move the can away from the road after emptying it, so the wind from passing cars doesn't knock it over and cause it to fall into the road. This company is also very reasonable on price. Which we love. They also communicate well on Facebook with changes to routes and schedules due to holidays. This allows us to know when to put our trash out to the road.

I moved to a new neighborhood in July that pays for trash and recycling with our HOA fees. I called them in July to make sure my account was set up and that I was completely paid up and was reassured that I was. Then in August I received a bill for trash service. I called them and they apologized and said that it was a mistake. Again I asked if I was paid up and once again was reassured I was. On Dec 17 I received a bill for $90. Again I called and was told that I actually still had a balance because of my yard waste from last season . I disputed this charge and was told it was correct and that I need to pay it. This company seems to always find some more money you owe them some how. I spoke with the manager directly and he was unwilling to adjust or cancel the payment even though his company told me twice I was paid in full. Would not recommend using this company for trash, recycling, or yard waste. Just read the other reviews. They speak for themself. 10/10 disappointed.

My review is positive for Herrington's! Unlike other reviews here, I found them quick to respond, professional and easy to work with. I emailed Herrington's about starting service. I received a prompt reply, and they answered my questions. It was incredibly easy to sign up, all via email. The price was much less than what GFL was charging per quarter for trash service only. The can was delivered quickly!

My trash bill is paid on time and yet almost every week since November of 2022 Herrington's forgets to pick up my trash, I call nearly every 1-2 weeks to ask yet again why my trash has not been picked up. Their response is almost always, "well, we have new drivers." That may well be, but I consistently have issues most weeks. Today I called yet again and the woman who answered asked me if I put the trash out properly. I told her that I know how trash works, I've been putting out in the same spot for 15yrs. She told me I was being rude and hung up on me. In short, their service is less than ideal and their customer service is even worse. As others have noted, their phone is often busy and they have yet to respond to any of my queries sent via their website to their email. I cannot endorse them to anyone.

Last 2 times they haven’t picked up all of the recycling and just today they decided to come at 6:15am (without any prior notice) when I bring my cans out every morning at 7am for the last 3 years. We now have well over a month’s worth of recycling we need to deal with ourselves. When I called to see what my options were the lady I spoke with was dismissive and refused to work with me to help resolve the issue or even understand my perspective. When I requested to speak with a supervisor because of her inability to help with other options I was told outright no. Never had that happen before… In the end I was hung up on abruptly, when I called back I was ignored 3 times, and their voicemail is full. Talk about customer service ??♂️

Wanted to continue to support a local family and small business, but their lack of customer service, communication, and timely billings made it impossible. If you don't want to constantly chase down billings or someone to talk to at the company, stay away. If you do reach someone, they will surely let you know how "lucky" you are to be able to talk to a live person with their company. They literally tell you, that they won't call you back because they are too busy (if you have a question with no immediate answer).

Ordered weekly trash pickup, can was delivered week one with no pickup. Week 2 no pickup - called office (you cannot leave any messages) and no apologies just are you sure you put it out in time? (Yes, put out the day before). Week 3 pickup at after dark day of scheduled pickup (we were told to put can out night before because hours vary). Week 4 no pickup - called and told them we were done because 2 missed weeks out of 3 is not good service. Was told ok, we will pick up can (again no apologies for missed service). If not accepting new customers fine, but customer service is severely lacking. Don't know if driver's just couldn't remember our house was added but accusing the customer is to blame is not a way to start a business relationship. I took pictures each time to show date/time of lack of pickup (can was always at curb by 7pm the night before). Sad because we'd rather use a local company versus bigger companies. Would not recommend using this company if you want reliability or a reasonable conversation regarding missed service.

Kim is extremely rude and takes zero responsibility for lack of communication and not verifying account information when posting payments to accounts. My service was stopped without any warning and when reaching out to them was told I had a balance on my account and they hadn’t received payment since December. I sent my bank information showing I had paid every bill I’ve received only to find out my payments went to the wrong account. It was of course my fault because I didn’t put the correct account number on my check. I’m sorry but I’ve worked in customer service and NEVER has it been the customers fault that I, the business, didn’t verify account information before posting. I have been with Herrington for 8 years and have never had an issue until now. Considering moving my business elsewhere.
