A nice restaurant to enjoy a good meal. The space was nicely decorated, and the service was good. The food was good, the lobster bisque was delicious. The other meals were good.
Good food & great atmosphere at the bar. The wait staff were unfriendly, not knowledgeable about the food/menu, and served us the wrong food without comping it after we notified them.
Early light dinner for 2. App Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms, they were okay. Bread and butter, rolls were sweet and the butter was off in flavor. Lobster Bisque, nothing special. Baked haddock had a lot of paprika, asparagus was cold and flavorless. Nice staff, nice customers. Unlikely to return soon.
We found the food here to be delicious! We are very picky eaters so I always nervous to go to a new restaurant because a lot of people can't cook! We ordered the salmon which was cooked perfectly it came with delicious matched potatoes and butternut squash. They brought us out nice hot soft rolls with maple butter to start off. Our server Hannah was lovely and did a great job. Cozy atmosphere. They had great music playing the night that we went. Great experience will be going back.
The baked Buffalo Mac and cheese came out to be very soupy and gross. Very hot in there so bring a fan. I think the wait staff was new. They gave us a booth that was at a 60 degree angle, but we asked to switch. The regulars love to stare. They had the blue grass band in the dinning room spicing up the mood with there interesting music. Would recommend going to the place next on your list.
My husband and I went for dinner on 07/03/25 about 6-6:30PM. There was no wait in the dining room about 3-4 empty booths. The waitress that seated us said she would be right back to wipe down the table. We NEVER saw her again! After sitting there for about 10 min we flagged someone down who was walking by and asked for a menu, she returned, put them down and left. Not saying that someone will be with you, we’re a little shorthanded tonight, whatever - nothing. We sat for another 10-15 minutes still waiting for someone, but no one came. In the meantime 3 gentlemen came in and sat a few tables up - again they were ignored. They finally did get up and leave and we followed! We eat here on occasion as it is a short drive. But these day it is too expensive to eat out and also be ignored without any explanation. On the way out a family of 5 was waiting at the abandoned hostess station. They left behind us. All tolled they lost 10 customers within about 30 minutes. Won’t be returning any time too soon.
Great place, regular spot for good value dinner/ apps and drinks. Often live music is usually Thurs-Sun?? Owners are great and dedicated to quality and service w/ a smile. Highly recommended!!

We were invited to a cookout and end up getting the wrong day. So we stopped in here and the food is unbelievable very friendly staff and amazing drinks. Northeast surfing strongly recommends.
I happened by on my way home and I was told the post had a good brunch so I thought I would check it out!?The brunch offered so much I couldn’t possibly eat that much. I settled on the crispy chicken wings(10) for a reasonable $ , I’m so glad I did! They were so delicious and crispy too! The bartender Katie was super helpful,great smile also! Food was terrible. I had the fried haddock which was soggy. The fries were baked which made them soft and unappetizing. My fiance had the braised rib with Mac n cheese which should have been more appropriately named soup.. It was tasty but not enough meat and too much cream. The waitress was very friendly and other than forgetting our bread and ignoring my request of no coleslaw was amicable enough. We won't be back
I’ve been going to the Olde Hitching Post for a while . But this is the first time we sat in the bar. The service is better in the dining room. My wife had Prime Rib which she liked. Huge piece of meat and good flavor. Great value . I had a seafood trio. Not so great. Two very small pieces of fish, three shrimp and four scallops, fries and onion rings. It tasted good but such a small amount. I had a martini told the girl house vodka. I got charged for Grey Goose and it was not Grey Goose. I had one martini and was charged for two. So always check your bill.
I have been back to this restaurant twice since it's been taken over by new management. And it has been WONDERFUL both visits. We had some quick appetizers on our first visit back, in case the food had lost its quality, but shockingly the food was delicious. The potato skins were creamy and melty with tons of cheese and the fried calamari was delicious. Our second visit back we got the same wonderful waitress we had previously and I got the clam chowder and a Caesar salad. The chowder was excellent and the Caesar salad was great too. (It appeared dry at first but the dressing was on there). The atmosphere of the restaurant is way different than I remember when I worked there 13-14 years ago, but a very comfortable atmosphere for either a family occasion or a date.
Enjoyed a delectable early dinner experience. As usual the food, service and atmosphere were top notch. Steak was cooked just as I requested. All wait staff were pleasant and ready to meet our needs. Cannot wait to visit again soon hoping to catch a cup of their delicious butternut squash soup. Highly recommend this long time favorite dining experience.
I love this place. Been coming for years and it has been totally redone inside. The food is delicious. I’ve had the butternut squash ravioli and the eggplant Parmesan and the braised short ribs. All are delicious! Portions are hearty and the service is wonderful. The dessert menu is tantalizing if you have room! If you are looking for a hidden gem on the south shore this is it!! Highly recommend.
Food here is good and the staff really shines. Everytime my family has eaten here the staff have gone above and beyond to accommodate our rather large parties and been friendly the entire time. My last two dishes here were both tasty and prepared correctly. They kept the bread and water topped off and were quick to notice when we needed anything. Wonderful gem of a restaurant.
On June 20 we had a large group for a special award night for my mother. Time was short for us as we needed to be at the town hall on time for the award presentation. We got our food quickly and it was delicious as always. The waitress was extremely helpful and professional. I tried something different and got a steak with blue cheese. I will be getting that again. My taste buds were very thankful.
I'd like to thank Olde Hitching Post and the amazing staff for pulling off a difficult and time critical event without incident. We all had an amazing dinner and were at the award ceremony on time.
I was not impressed with this place. The service was good, but that was about it. I got the Chicken Parm. The sauce was overcooked, heavy, very salty, and also had some sort of sweet flavor to it - maybe barbecue? Whatever it was, it wasn't for me. The pasta was okay, but it didn't mix well with the sauce so there was a lot of plain pasta to be had. The chicken was the best part, and did a good job of masking the shortcomings of the sauce. The atmosphere was okay, and was definitely improved by the live music act that could be heard from the tavern side.
So, we came here to listen to a local talent sing and play music. The waitress was lovely and came by frequently even though it seemed busy. The problem was with the food. My fiance ordered the chicken parm. What came was 3 chicken tenders with some cheese on them. I ordered steak tips with fries. The tips were flavorful because they were meat but did not have much else going for them. The fries were not crunchy nor particularly hot. When we got the bill we saw that the prices were higher than the menu had shown. The menu did also have the disclaimer that "prices were subject to change". This translated to an extra 3 dollars on mine and an extra dollar on hers. Less than ideal for the quality of the food. Please note, the waitress was great! We aren't planning to come back.
The service was excellent. We gave the waitress a full 20% tip. The food was so so. I ordered chicken parmasean and got 3 tenders covered with cheese. The flavor was lacking. My fiance got steak tips , which also did not have a lot of flavor. They also have on their menu that prices of subject to change. We only knew this because the lady at the table next to us was very angry about it in called over the manager. My fiance ordered a dish that had the price changed. I don't think this is acceptable, because of that and the quality of the food, I will never be back.
We get takeout at least twice a week from the Olde Hitching Post and the food is always very good with generous portions. The staff are wonderful. Last night I got the seafood gumbo special, and it was amazing! Lots of seafood, the sauce was absolutely delicious, and it came with garlic bread on the side. It was really enough for two people. And very reasonable at under $25. I highly recommend this dish! And the lobster roll is consistently excellent with a generous amount of lobster. We love the Olde Hitching Post!
My husband and I brought my parents out to dinner on this past Saturday evening at the Olde Hitching Post. We were seated on the bar/pub side of the restaurant. We started off with cocktails, which were amazing. I had one of the best Martini's ever. Was dirty and perfect...just the way. We chose the Calamari for our appetizer and it was outstanding. I had the baked sea scallops. They were some of the best I have eaten in a restaurant. My husband had the shrimp scampi and my parents the Angus beef tips. Everything was amazing. We will definitely be back. I grew up in Hanson, so the Olde Hitching Post was a life staple for us.
Great food! Great service! Live music was good too. The band was solid, though not my taste music wise at all. That being said, its only my opinion. They played the songs really good anyway, not gonna lie over personal preference. Food was fantastic as well as the drinks. And the servers were super friendly and polite. Nice place to go eat at.
Came here for lunch with my wife. Got seated right away, but it did take a little bit for the waitress to come over to us and she was surprised that someone had not helped us yet. It also seems like they do not have specific sections for each waitress and they seem to be a free for all on which tables they serve. The waitress didn't introduce herself to us, and was hard to track down during our meal. The food was good. We had the calamari, clam chowder, pulled brisket mac and cheese and the Italian sausage and gnocchi. The clam chowder was perfect- thick and creamy with lots of clams in it. The calamari was cooked perfectly and was nice and soft. The breading could use a little more seasoning, though. The gnocchi was made very well but was light on the Italian sausage. The pulled brisket in the mac and cheese was a little fatty but when you got past that it was flavorful and delicious. Portions for the entrees are very generous and give you enough for 2 meals.
