I needed a bunch of stuff done on my car and knew it was probably going to be expensive. Nick worked with me and told me what needed to be done. They came in well below what I thought it would be. I’ve been coming to these guys for years and trust them implicitly. They always deliver. They’re the best.
This is a new review, but I'm adding it here because the former review repopulated and I don't think should be erased. I'm no tech genius. Anyway, towards the end of summer 2025, I had a different kind of work done: when I was on the highway and accelerated the gas, the mph would drop from 60 to 40 or lower. WTH, right? I couldn't get it to speed back up. I was terrified that someone might run into me from behind so I pulled off the highway, exited onto the local lanes and came right to Cochran Auto. I told Nick that there was something wrong with the gas acceleration. Immediately after describing the incident, he told me it wasn't a gas acceleration matter, but something to do with the brakes. I eyed him suspect... I didn't understand how a gas acceleration problem was a brake issue. He explained to me what actually occurred and I left my car with him (had to be fixed regardless) but, as is my way, I went and researched it later. Sure enough--and, of course--Nick was right. What I thought was a gas acceleration event was truly a problem with the brakes system. They did a great job repairing a potentially dangerous problem with my car. And, as always, their prices were competitive but fair. This is approximately my 10/11th year with Cochran Auto, and I'm as pleased with their services today as I was that first time I encountered them.
When I first moved from Gaithersburg to Germantown several years ago and experienced air loss causing a flat tire, I stopped by Cochran auto for help. Not only were the gentlemen very friendly and professional (I only recall Mr. Nick by name, but he also usually answers the phone whenever I've called), they helped me without a fuss and without charging me. Perhaps a small gesture, but huge customer service, the kind that has me returning for going on 7 years now. I've had seasonal checkups, oil changes, brakes services, windshield wiper nozzle unit and wipers replacement, passenger-side mirror replacement, and most recently four tires mounted and balanced. I'm likely not recalling every service I've gotten. Cochran's prices are competitive, they do good work, and have I mentioned great customer service?

Awesome work done by the fine staff and mechanics. I have been coming to Cochran for about 7 years. From their recommendations to the actual work, I have yet to find a problem. They stand behind their work. So, if you're looking for a top-rate place to bring your car for repairs, this is the place!
This is an update to my initial review. A few years ago I started bringing my aunt's car to Cochran. The dealership she had been dealing with has gone out of business. Recently, I brought the car in because the check engine light came on. Once they diagnosed the problem, I received a call to let me know what it was and the cost. I gave them the go ahead. They were going to call me when the car was ready. Early afternoon, I received the call and confirmed the cost. True to their word, the car was ready in good time. I have said it before and I think it's worth repeating, if you want dependable and reliable service, Cochran is the place to bring your car. I have never been disappointed in their work and now my aunt is pleased with their service. I highly recommend them!

I brought my aunt's 2011 Cadillac to Cochran Automotive to have the driver side mirror replaced. A neighbor cracked it when parking and would pay to have it repaired. When he mentioned that he was making arrangements to take care of it. However, my stepmother would not permit it. He she let him know that her stepson had a mechanic (Cochran Automotive) that could take care of it. She told him that she had seen the previous work that Cochran had done and was pleased. Having settled that issue, I made an appointment to bring the car in. The only stipulation was that before the work would begin, I would call the neighbor to give him the cost. Once I received the call from Nick with the amount, I called the neighbor to make him aware of the cost before moving forward. After answering his questions, he agreed. I gave Nick the "go ahead" Nick did inform me that getting part might take a little longer than usual because it was coming from a Southern part of Virginia (7-10 days), but he did have a dealer that was closer and hadn't spoken with him yet. I gave him the okay. Upon my next conversation with him, Nick informed me that he was able to order from the dealer that was closer and would have the part the next day. I brought the car in on a Monday. The part arrived on Tuesday. While he was waiting for the part, I asked him to change the oil. Wednesday afternoon, I received the call that the car was ready. I picked up the car. The mirror was perfect. It was time well spent. More importantly, I knew my stepmother would be pleased. I cannot thank Cochran Automotive enough for the excellent service that they have provided to me (since 2008) and to my aunt's car over the years. I could always depend on them even when I needed recommendations for other auto work. Always dependable and quality service. If you're looking for a great mechanic, look no further

I only got done oil changes. I called few times to get prices some major repairs and price was high. Last i called was about breaks they were more expensive than dealership.
Excellent service and great prices! I just had my Camaro serviced today and I was very pleased with the whole experience. I will be taking my vehicle here going forward.
My wife and I have taken our cars here for at least ten years. We have always been very happy with the quality of work, the staff and their experience. the new interior is very nice if you are waiting and the Germantown transit center is across the street.
Update... It's been a few years since I posted the above. We still take our cars there and are happy with the quality of service and the team of technicians.
I got a state inspection. It was expensive, but my only option as they could get me in right away. Only failing issue was 2 tag lights that were out. They wanted $120 to replace them! I did it myself after picking up the bulbs for $4 at Walmart and spending less than 5 minutes replacing them without tools. Buyer beware.

Cochran was highly recommended by several ppl. I moved back to MoCo 23 years ago. I was a single mom then & knew nothing about cars. Eddie was very helpful. Told me what was necessary & what could wait. I recommend Cochran highly & without reservation!
I came as a walk-in for a leaky tire and was helped immediately. They communicated very well, called me as soon as they found the problem (screw in the tread), and gave me an estimate for the patch-up. I needed it fixed quickly so I said yes to the almost $90 price tag, and the patch-up was good. It just seems quite steep for a simple patch, which is why I hesitate to give a full 5 stars.

Service: State Inspection
When I arrived, I went inside and immediately felt an uncomfortable tension. There was a guy sitting behind the counter and when I greeted him, he acted as if I was not there.
Personal opinion: he judged me by the complexion of my skin. He NEVER acknowledged me while I was forced to wait for someone else to assist me. 3-5 minutes later another guy came out, when he saw me waiting he looked over at the other guy with a questionable expression but assisted me anyway. He later asked the guy about the time it would take to complete the inspection.. whaaa he can speak!? I was told 2 hours and I left my car to be inspected.
I didn't pass due to a tail light (which I had replaced in the Summer of 2021, but had to have it replaced again???) and my window tint was too dark.. like me I guess..
Anyway, I was asked if I needed them to correct the tail light, I declined because I was already uncomfortable in the setting and wasn't comfortable spending more money with this business. I contacted my husband to assist me with the corrections and return the car for a passing inspection. The same guy gave my husband the same uncomfortable feeling.
Overall: the price is affordable but the business is not welcoming to all.
when you go in there, please ask for Nick.He is honest,trustworthy ,knowledgeable and hard working.these are the attributes you want your mechanic to have.whenever I go I. Everyone at this establishment is very respectful, knowledgeable and helpful! Their work is always done to perfection and affordable. They take the time and explain every detail with you. They are honest (which is extremely hard to find in the automotive world, specially if your a female), dependable and become part of your family! The owner Eddie Cochran and his manager, Nick are the go to men to discuss any and everything pertaining to your vehicle.

I've taken my cars to Cochran Automotive for over 15 years. They've always been responsive, professional, and most importantly, honest. As my cars aged and more expensive repairs were needed, they helped me prioritize the work to distribute the costs over time. And when my last car was nearing 200K miles, they advised me when it was time to buy another vehicle instead of investing in additional repairs. That's exactly what I'm looking for in a mechanic!
In life you need to find three good people: A doctor, a dentist and a mechanic. They need to be honest, knowledgeable, with YOUR best interest first. Cochran Automotive fits all three to a "T". They do excellent work at a fair price. They treat you with respect and won't try and up-sell you. They will tell you what you need and don't need. They stand behind their work. The best compliment I can give Cochran Automotive is that you can trust them...isn't that what you want in a doctor, and dentist and a mechanic?
Nick and Eddie are some of the most honest mechanics I have ever dealt with. They take the time to explain any issues they find and are fine with me taking on the easy stuff myself (such as air filter and battery changes). Their labor rates are fair, and I always feel like they take good care of my property while it's under their supervision. Highly recommend anyone to check them out.
We take all our vehicles here. Like everything in life You get what you pay for. Nick and Big Eddie are about caring for you in the long run. They are not interested in a quick buck. I pay them for their knowledge and expertise. I trust them to keep my family safe by maintaining our cars. Honestly, that's the highest standard I have in any profession. I’m there aren’t that many trustworthy Auto Mechanic Shops, but Cochran’s is one you could certainly rely on. Diagnosis is accurate, pricing are inline/better, and the service guys seem very trustworthy. Please contact Cochran’s for all auto needs. I was very happy with Cochran service. I would recommend them very highly. I think their most outstanding characteristic is that they are honest. My wife’s car ran out of gas on 270 near Germantown. I put gas in it but could not get the engine to turn over so I figured it was an alternator. I selected Cochran based on their excellent online reviews and I was not disappointed. They called me the next day said that they had refilled the car with gas completely and they were able to get it to turn over and to run perfectly. Apparently the fuel lines were dry.
If you’re going to a different mechanic, I don’t know how to help you. I use them because my parents did. My dad doesn’t like anybody, but he raves about Cochran’s.
They don’t overcharge or do anything shady. You don’t have to worry about getting scammed. On the contrary, I usually leave feeling guilty that I have been undercharged.
They’re really kind and informative, too. I don’t know much about cars, so when the tire pressure light came on my beater, I went to Cochran’s to see if they could give me a lesson on tire pressure. Not only did they explain everything and fill up my tires, but they let me try with their supervision, gave me a free tire gauge, and didn’t charge a dime. Good luck finding that level of generosity anywhere else!
Just go take your car there. Even if you don’t care about saving money, it’s important to support businesses that are this excellent.
Came in with a minor but incredibly inconvenient issue with the underside of my car. The guys in the shop had the car looked at and repaired in less than 10 minutes. They could've overcharged me, as I know nothing about cars. Instead they gave me an absurdly good price. Let them earn your business like they earned mine!
I came to drop my car for repair. One of the staff member told me that the car may be under the factory warranty and I should check that out. I mean, if he was not trust worthy he could have proceeded to the repair and earn the money. Add he said the car was still under the factory warranty.
It is very important not trade trust for benefit. This is what I see here. I would like to thank this company. I believe that the activity of each staff is the reflection of the company's value
The team at Cochran Automotive is great! Quick service, great COMMUNICATION, fair pricing, and best of all they only do the work that needs to be done. No "mystery ailments" to our cars when we take them in, no upselling, just fair, honest, quality work by great people.
