This was a cute and cozy place. My friends and I decided to stay here for the weekend and it offered a nice place to stay while enjoying some of the history of the C&O Canal. I definitely appreciated that the place does have air conditioning and an enclosed porch. The place had everything we needed. Some of the furniture is old and I did feel that some of the chairs might break while sitting on them.

Stayed here as our wedding accommodations and it was really a genius idea. So much better than a hotel or air bnb option, and so much more memorable. We were able to host a bon fire. I took a hike on the toe path after waking up. You are right in the city but are in nature at the same time. It really added to our wedding weekend to have beautiful and unique accommodations. We took our first look pictures by the canal, and I will always remember this as part of our special day!
Also, the shower is really nice and the water pressure is better than what I have at home. The hot water runs out after like 8-10 minutes but its not so bad! HVAC is also great. We got married on a hot day and we were actually cold while getting ready.
Only areas for improvement: bed mattresses are not the best, BYO mattress topper to be more comfortable. Proper trash cans in the home to make clean up easier.
We will definitely be back. Special shout out to the Canal Staff and Arden who was so attentive in emails!Apr 29, 2025 -
We were married at Glen Echo Park this weekend. There aren’t many hotels around there, and I had always been intrigued by the lockhouses on my rides up and down the towpath. We decided to use Lockhouse 10 as our quarters for the weekend.
It was perfect. I’m not a camper, so I was glad that the house had a modern HVAC system. The AC was great while we got ready. The bath and kitchen had also been modernized. The C&O Canal Trust staff were incredibly responsive and clearly cared about our stay there—including restocking the firewood.
The only thing I would echo from the other reviews is that the beds are what they are. Trust the Trust—it is a very 1930s way of sleeping. We brought our own bedding to make it more comfortable. Not a huge deal. Also, it is pack-in, pack-out, so make more use of the dish ware and glasses they supply than disposable products. We came prepared for that.
I really loved staying here and can’t wait to do so again. It was quiet, secluded, peaceful, and beautiful, with the city just down the road.Apr 22, 2025 -
I have stated here several times and have loved every minute. I am already planning my next stay.

Beautiful place to start your walk… plenty of parking… super shaded area of the C&O canal… head north, it’s nicer n less crowded!

Wonderful house with great AC and springy beds but the location outshines everything

This is a great place to stay while riding the C&O. It's tucked away off the trail and away from the parking area. The decor is very cool: 1930's style and in excellent shape. The HVAC works great, the bathroom is vintage nice, and the kitchen is fully stocked with pots and dishes. There is also a screened in porch and outdoor fire pit. There is road noise outside, but it's quiet in the house. The beds are the one down side - they are thin and hard, and bedding isn't provided. All in all, it was a great spot to end our 300+ mile ride after camping for 4 nights in a row.

An excellent way to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. It had everything we needed for a weekend getaway except the bed linens. The beds were a bit tough to deal with but the group managed.

This was an absolutely wonderful experience!!! All the comforts without the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Location was very easy to get to and had the walking trail right outside the front door. We enjoyed watching the planes taking off from the nearby airport and was surprised by the low level of noise from the outside as we relaxed inside. The beds are a little outdated but with some clever brainstorming, they became manageable. It was very clean upon arrival. The kitchen was stocked with what you would need to cook wonderful meals all weekend and the firepit is even set up for outdoor cooking. The parking is on site with plenty of yard for relaxing. If you're looking for a place to getaway and decompress or to stay somewhere other than a hotel, this will not disappoint!!!

My only complaint was the beds. We literally were sleeping on boards with the thinnest, flimsiest mattress I've ever seen. But, we improvised, since we didn't need all the beds and stacked 2 mattresses to make it easier to sleep the second night. Otherwise, absolutely beautiful, calm, quiet and relaxing weekend! I'd stay again! I'd give 5 stars for sure if there were normal mattresses on the beds. Lol

Great historical lock house. 1930 theme really adds character. Outdoor fireplace and picnic table for smores and stories. Comfortable furniture and sleeps up to 5. Rode in on our bikes and stored them on the porch under cover.

Great lockhouse home with much history on walls describing the Civilian Conservation Corp's restoration of the C&O Canal. Thoughtful 1930 period decor and nice grounds across canal from C&O canal trail, providing wood for fire ring. Full bath, AC-heat, full kitchen with cookware and can sleep up to 8. Only negative was the mattress for double bed was terrible so couldn't sleep well.

We enjoyed an overnight stay here. The lockhouse is well furnished and a great starting point for walks along the canal.

Lock 10 has a small parking lot, for about 10 cars. Lockhouse 10 is available for rent, if you want to stay in the Lockhouse for a night. Once you get onto the trail, Lock 11 with a Lockhouse is about 1000 ft on the right of Lock 10. Locks 8 and 9 are to the left of Lock 10 once you get into the trail, and they are less than a mile away. Lock 8 also has a Lockhouse and I believe it also has a parking lot. For a nice view of the Potomac River, walk between Locks 8 and 10. Near Lock 8, there is a path that you can take to the river. It has an amazing view!!

Great way to relax and feel like you're escaping the city, while still be close enough for easy access. I loved walking along the towpath. I definitely plan on staying here again.
