The only reason I’m giving 3 stars is because their other services are wonderful. As far as their auto repair goes, this is my second bad experience with them in the past year. I was hoping it was a “one-off” the first time, which is why I gave them a second chance. Frederick Auto Repair really leaves a lot to be desired. I made an appointment online for 4 new tires and then showed up for my appointment only for them to tell me they don’t have tires on site. I made my appointment 24 hours prior and they said they were unaware of this despite acknowledging there was an appointment already confirmed. It’s truly shocking to me because their other services (Lube Center & Auto Spa) are so well run, efficient and kind. Luckily there’s so many tire shops on that side of town it really didn’t make a difference. I do prefer to give my business to the businesses that treat their customers well, but looks like I’ll be sticking to The Lube Center and Auto Spa and avoiding WLR auto repair at all costs.
I got my MD state inspection done here, had two things that they let me know needed to be fixed. I got it done and came back the next day to get it signed off! They're very personable here, they inspection wait time was only about an hour as well. Overall it was a great experience! Thank you guys!
I strongly advise everyone to NOT take your vehicle here for any type of service! Took my car in for an inspection and the next day the car was leaking a considerable amount of oil. Was bone dry when checked the day after the inspection and a large oil stain appeared on my driveway. In checking, it looked like the oil filter was bent or damaged in some way. Was assured I could bring it in to have it looked at. An associate Wayne came out and stuck his head under the car and agreed it was leaking oil, went back to the shop area, came back and proceeded to tell me that he suggested having them do an oil change and that "just driving a car can cause an oil leak!" I mean never have i heard such a thing and no resolution was given and I walked out a very unhappy customer. Went to someone who knows what they're doing and is HONEST and found they the oil filter was loose....extremely loose!!! Now that doesnt just happen from driving !! I will now have to pay to have it inspected again because they can't be trusted nor do they own their mistakes, even after calling today and speaking with a manager! Consumer beware!!!
I am very pleased with how fast my service was complete. My 4WD was broken and I needed it fixed fast before the next snow storm and I was able to get my vehicle dropped off, 4WD fixed, oil changed, and camshaft sensors fixed within hours!!! The staff were pretty great as well. I’ve had many cars with many problems and this by far was my best experience with a mechanic shop!!!!
Tyler was incredibly professional, skillful, friendly, and generous with his time on a Saturday afternoon. He quickly installed a piece on my door handle without an appointment. I'll be returning for bigger jobs and recommend that anyone needing automotive services visit Frederick Auto Repair.
They charged my wife $82 for the Serpentine belt. (Typical Serpentine Belt prices are $20 or less, even for a premium belt). This belt is available at $10 on RockAuto.com and $15 at Autozone and Walmart. Even the most premium belt I could find from a large parts store was less than half the price they chard us. I called them and asked where they got the belt from- Advance. Advance sells the belt to consumers for $32- no auto repair shop in their right minds would pay the same prices charged to walk-ins, so I know they definitely paid less than $32 for it. But EVEN at $32, $82 for a serpentine belt is 156% markup on a part that Advance delivered to them at no additional cost Never going to The Lube Center, Auto Spa, or Frederick Auto Repair again. I can absolutely confirm that they are frauds.
Called in a couple days prior to going in to confirm openings for state inspection and they neglected to schedule a time just stating that they had openings and hung up. Just went in and the guy at the desk refused to do an inspection citing a state law that doesn't exist and saying the road conditions are too bad to do one despite the roads being clear of any unsafe conditions, then gave me an attitude when I challenged his decision. Will not be going back again.
DJ will try to rip you off. They only provide off brand alternator which they sale the part for literally double the normal cost of parts, even more expensive then the OEM, but they provide up to 10k mile or 12 months as a warranty. So I bluntly asked, "so you charge a premium of $500 for a 1 year warranty?". Luckily I got to deal with other customer supprt folks there that made the experience tolerable, I think his name was Oscar or Kevin, real nice guy took care of me. If you are going, and taking to the manager DJ, double and triple check everything that guy tries to charge you. This place used to be good 5 years ago, but recent encounters there make it such that this is a place I will never go to for car repair ever again.
Would give more stars if I could - this was the fourth place I took my car to and the only place that quickly AND correctly diagnosed the issue. The repair was quick and right on estimate. My car is sounding and running better than it was before it started having issues so I am very grateful and pleased.
BEWARE: I have been going to Frederick Auto Repair for over 3 years now and I finally have to speak up and say something. This place is a complete RIP OFF! Firstly, the Lube Center and Frederick Auto are 2 DIFFERENT companies. Secondly, the lube center also does lite mechanic work - the Auto repair won't tell you that (they charge WAY less). I took my vehicle here and got quoted OVER $2000 to change a belt tentioner and valve gasket. Something didn't sound right - They were charging $180 an hr for labor for EACH problem they listed. I went for a second opinion and the problem was not the belt tentioner which would have cost less than $300 to fix, but it was something TOTALLY different. I took my car there several times in the past and left with it sounding worse than when I went in (came back in 2 days and told them something is wrong it's making noise I never heard before when I turn the wheel, and they brushed me off - "we don't hear anything" - then proceededto charge me $120 diagnostic fee). Fast forward to a year and half later, they told me I had an oil leak and belt tentioner is bad (hence the valve gasket replace) I didn't have a oil leak AT ALL, my power steering was busted (which makes since why it was making the noise I heard every time I turned my wheel a year prior! And the "oil" leak) I paid total $900 to get my car fixed at another shop, the sound is gone and it is driving like new, better than the many times I took it to Frederick Auto Repair. If you care about your cars, please please get a second opinion before coming here, they will damage your car more and leave you paying more.
Buyer beware brought a vehicle to have serviced now the vehicle leaks oil did not before I brought it in. They cracked the oil pan when The tightened the drain plugged back on so now I’m going to have to pay $3400 to another mechanic to fix it. I’ve had two different mechanics say that it was their fault that it was caused because the oil plug was tightened too much.
This place really exceeded all of my expectations! After an oil change I needed some work done. I Went in thinking I need 2 things replaced DJ looked and determined I only needed 1 thing fixed because the other was perfectly fine. Him and Oscar worked diligently to get the job done for less than expected and quickly. They are friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be giving them more of my business.
Such a great experience ! We broke down on the weekend at the beginning of a long road trip and Manager Oscar Soto and tech Carlos came to the rescue.
After we broke down - the starter died- I called the shop and Oscar answered, I told him our issue and wanted to know if he can help us and get us back on the road that day. He said” We definitely can take care of you”, his tone was professional and very calming.
When the flat bed dropped us off, Oscar and team immediately jumped on the starter diagnosis. When it was confirmed it was the issue, he got on the phone to get the part.
While I waited I was impressed with his demeanor and the way he went about running the shop.
The part arrived and again the team jumped on getting the repair done. From drop off to back on the road in just 1 1/2 hours!!!! I was expecting hours and hours of waiting and a full day lost.
Repair shops overall get a bad rap, but not here! Oscar and his team are the best and if I lived in the area this would be my go to shop!!!
As a young lady auto shops can always be a bit intimidating. Fredrick auto repair continues to create a welcoming, open, and honest environment with reasonable prices!
This is my second time going there and their skilled technicians provide diligent service and maintain honest communication throughout the process. DJ is definitely a star employee, he is amazing with costumers and positively impacts the team!

Wow! I have never received such amazing service at an auto care business as I did today! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by Ruth, who helped me check in. She was friendly, efficient, and thorough, ensuring that all of my needs were addressed. While my car was being serviced, DJ, one of the assistant managers, came out to speak with me. He clearly explained what I did and didn’t need, potentially saving me hundreds or even thousands of dollars on unnecessary repairs that had been recommended by another shop. As I was leaving, Ruth was once again friendly and helpful, with a great attitude and a big smile! The store manager, Daniel, overheard my conversation with the staff and was happy to know that my expectations were exceeded. Daniel shared that he and his team genuinely look out for their customers. You've earned a lifelong customer today!
I am very pleased with the service I received from beginning to end. I normally take my car to the dealership but decided to take a chance after speaking with the manager at the Lube Center. I called and DJ got me set up bright and early the next day. Upon entering the manager Tom was very professional and kind. He explained in detail what was going on with my vehicle and reassured me his team would take care of me. They most surely did!. I left within a couple of hours as promised and got an excellent deal! Special out to Mark for giving my "Bunny" a top to bottom bill of health. Brought my car there to get it checked out, because I've been having a noise coming from the engine. (It was the Timing belt / tension).
They charged me $150 to look at it for 10-15 minutes, and quoted me around 1500 dollars for the fix, which they wouldn't have gotten to until the following Monday.
Took it somewhere else for 1100 (without a charge to "take a look").
So, in all, this place would have been 1650, vs the 1100 elsewhere.
People are nice, waiting area is nice. I'm sure they would have done a great job. Just ridiculously expensive. Part of that is because they quoted the fix would take 5 hours, at 150 dollars an hour. Who am I paying, Lockheed-Martin engineers? Are they building B2-Spirits or fixing cars?
Best Shop in Frederick! They’ve serviced our older 03 Corolla multiple times. Trustworthy staff and mechanics! DJ is wonderful! If you need an honest shop whom are knowledgeable, responsive, and who doesn’t try to deceive to make $$ then you need to come here! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
DJ and Tom have been amazing with helping me get my car issue situated.When I initially had my issue DJ was very friendly and calming during a high stress time. He was very upfront and requested more time so Tom could take a look at it. Within an hour Tom had all of the info I needed and was so friendly and accommodating with helping my husband and I get it taken care of. This was my first time at the shop and it will definitely be my go to and top recommendation in the future. Thank you again!!

It’s a unique experience for me that I have absolute trust and confidence in an auto mechanic. Frederick Auto Repair has time and time again proven that they are a wonderful, trustworthy, and all around fantastic shop! They have provided service on our Jeep Cherokee for 3 years we have owned it and are always professional, reasonable, and prompt with their repairs. Tom always takes time to answer my many questions, explain concerns to me, and works with me to find the best and most affordable options for caring for my vehicle. I can't express how much we appreciate all the employees here and how we will always trust them with our car needs!
Best shop I've ever been to! Customer service is well above any other place in Frederick. Tom and DJ are 2 of the nicest and most honest people you'll meet. I've had my car in here 3 times in the last 2 years and cannot say enough great things. Service is quick efficient and the guys there are personable, knowledgeable and friendly. You wont find a better shop in the Frederick area!
This is the best experience I have ever had with an auto repair shop. The staff was extremely kind and patient. They were extremely friendly and quick to respond! Tom, the manager, was attentive and gave me frequent updates on the status of my car. He even sent me pictures of findings, as well as calling me on FaceTime to show me what he was looking at and what he meant.
I had gone in with an oil leak coming from my oil pan but they found a couple of more serious problems. They did not do any work, unless I very clearly gave them permission to do so. They were very honest with me and with their findings.
I never felt in the dark with them, they know what they are doing and my car has been running smoothly with no problems. Anytime I have an issue with mine, or my wife's car, it will taken here. These are some really great, honest, attentive people!
Great experience here. I got a good vibe when I took my car in for an estimate. Didn't feel like I was being overcharged or that they were recommending things I didn't really need. Work was done on time and at the agreed upon price. The 2 Thomas's were so friendly and answered all my questions. I live about 20 miles away and there is a mechanic 8 minutes from my house but Fredericktowne Auto has gained a new customer and is well worth the drive.
