I called them at 7 am because my car was stuck in neutral. They got my car in and fixed by noon and the cost was much less than anticipated. Fantastic service, Rob was especially kind and professional.
I had some money set aside for a new truck, but after seeing the prices of them I decided to put that into preventative maintenance and not have a new payment.
40 west was one of the only service centers that I called that actually got back to me with a quote, which was very reasonable. They had my truck in the next day and had it back to me quickly. My truck is running considerably better and my MPG have increased dramatically. I will continue to bring my truck here for work.
This was my first time there and will not be my last. The customer service was outstanding. They made time to work on my other vehicle that was not on the schedule. They take quality care in you and your vehicle.
These guys are the real deal! Trustworthy, honest, polite, friendly and efficient! I only have good things to say about the owners AND the entire staff! Wonderful!

Absolutely Ridiculous Pricing – Avoid This Place at All Costs!
I rarely leave reviews, but my recent experience was so disappointing that I feel obligated to warn others. I took my Mazda3 in for what should have been a routine service—engine air filter replacement, oil change (Valvoline synthetic), and tire rotation. The total? A shocking $204, with almost $110 just for labor.
Let that sink in: over $200 for basic maintenance that any reputable shop would charge nearly half for. I’m not exaggerating—this is one of the most overpriced services I’ve ever encountered in years of car ownership.
There was nothing exceptional about the service to justify such an inflated price tag. No premium customer care, no added value, just a basic job with a premium dealership price. At this rate, you’d think they were servicing a luxury vehicle—not a compact sedan.
Do yourself a favor: shop around before coming here. There are plenty of trustworthy places that won’t try to fleece you for standard maintenance. Unless you enjoy overpaying and walking away with a lighter wallet and a sour taste, skip this place entirely.
Great mechanical and customer service! Starter failure left me stranded. Called 40 West and their tow truck arrived in about 10 minutes. Dropped me off at my home, took the car to the shop for repair, and even picked me up at home after the repair was done. Car starts like a charm now!
I had to have my brakes both front and rear replaced. It took only a couple of hours and was fairly priced. Everyone was very friendly and kept me informed on the progress of my repair. Would definitely recommend them for any repairs.
Good people. Fast work. Extremely fair pricing. They took great care of my car. This is the only place I'll go for car repairs in Frederick.
Update 04/21/25: This shop is still doing outstanding maintenance and work on my vehicle over a year later. Cannot recommend them highly enough. If they can't do a job they even recommend where to try next.
Really appreciated the friendly customer service! They worked around my schedule and provided an accurate and reasonable estimate, then performed the repair the next day in a very timely manner! Highly recommend and they earned my future business!
The men that run this shop are the kindest group of individuals. This place has been me and my fiancé’s go to since we moved here. They have serviced both of our vehicles (both older vehicles 2007 and 2014). Both times it was a quick service, I understood what the issue was and how they were going to resolve it, and the parts and labor were SUPER reasonable. As someone who has had many poor experiences elsewhere - these guys will restore your faith in mechanics.
3/17/2024: just a quick update. These folks are awesome! I get great service every time I come here and it improves the more I return. That’s why I have brought our 2 new vehicles by for a check ups. They handle everything from oil changes to major repairs. And they don’t tell you lies just to pad their earnings. I know when I come to this place I’ll get a true diagnosis and or service. Keep it up 40 West!
I was recommend to this place by my mom. I just bought a used vehicle(privately) and needed an inspection place. These folks got me on the schedule very quick. The service was quick, friendly, fair and very Reasonable rates. It’s pretty hard to find that now days. I will be using them for my car repair needs when needed.. thanks again
40 West Auto Care & Towing is my "go-to" auto repair shop in Frederick, offering outstanding service to customers. Their honesty, thoroughness, considerateness, level of expertise, and reasonable pricing for high-quality work can't be beat.
I recently used them for my truck and was impressed with the service and fair price and location that i brought my other car here to be serviced after going to BMW. The quality of work is great and pricing. They are able to get your car in and out relatively fast. Pricing is very reasonable and i prefer them vs a jiffy lube and a mr tire etc. they are very knowledgeable!
I couldn’t be more impressed with 40 West Auto Care. From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. The team here is not only highly skilled but also genuinely honest—something that can be hard to find in the auto repair industry.

40 West Auto Care & Towing really saved me last week. They responded to my tow request right away and took care of my repairs the same day. Rob was very friendly, helpful, and kind. I highly recommend them. I will definitely call them moving forward.
My car broke down on me in the middle of the night while I was on my way home (an hour away) from my sister's house. I had already called for roadside assistance to either get me home or back to my sister's house, but called 40 West to see if it was possible to get my car in their shop as soon as possible, since I'm 40 weeks pregnant - 2 days away from my due date at the time. The person who picked up was one of their tow truck drivers and let me know that I could call in the morning and potentially get in right away, given my situation. He was VERY KIND!
The next morning, I did as instructed and called them first thing and they came to my sister's house to pick up the vehicle (the tow fee was far more affordable than Roadside Assistance!) got a diagnosis/estimate within an hour and had my vehicle back to operational by that afternoon! Every employee that I interacted with was incredibly kind, courteous, and empathetic to the situation and prioritized my needs, given the emergency. I'm very grateful to the entire staff at this shop and would highly recommend them to anyone in the Frederick area who needs assistance with their vehicle.

My car broke down on rt 70. I placed a call to AAA for assistance and I was so pleased that they sent a tow truck from 40 West Auto to help me. The driver was courteous and extremely helpful getting my car to the shop. (I also had my 3 dogs with me and everyone made sure that they were also safe.) Everyone in the shop went above and beyond to get me back on the road and home safely.
Got a flat on RT 70 West coming down South Mountain where there is virtually no shoulder and lots of 18 Wheelers passing by. These guys came to my rescue. They were fast, friendly, and reasonable in terms of price. Thank you for your service!

I found 40 west during the pandemic and have been coming to them regularly for the last 3 almost 4 years. They are very honorable and kind people! They never charge more than what is needed and always honor their customers. I recommend them to everyone and I refuse to go anywhere else, so much so that when my car broke down near north east MD I had it towed to 40 west haha. Love them!! Can truly only speak good things about them!!
Very fast response to my car that turned itself off at a light on a busy road. I was dropped off at my daughter's house, which was on the route to the garage. The driver, who's name I missed in my flustered state, was a gentleman when I entered and exited the truck, making sure I safely made it in and out of the big rig.
The service garage was great at communicating what they diagnosed. I will definitely call 40 West Towing if I need their service again. Highly recommend!
We were informed by the federal police on Fort Detrick about this place, and they came within 20 minutes after the disastrous car fire. With all the debris laying everywhere, the gentleman secured it all and towed the vehicle away.
AAA said it would be an hour, 40 West showed up in 20 minutes. The driver, James, was fantastic. He was neat, clean, polite, efficient and professional. He had my vehicle hooked up in no time flat and dropped at the shop. Wish AAA would let me request 40 West when needed. Have had to deal with another business and they were dirty, gave bad information (it's okay to drive with a broken brake line!), and had a bad attitude. Never with 40 West have I had an issue. Need a tow or other vehicle issue resolved? Give them a call!
My parents had used them for 20+ years before they retired and moved out of state. I always remembered going there as a little kid and listening to the mechanic always working. Fast forward to now: my car’s windshield washer fluid machine died and I had to take it to get replaced. It was the day before thanksgiving. Eric, who is the head mechanic took time and went to check to see what the problem was. I also asked him about a tune up, which he did as well. The mechanics took my car in the shop and immediately started working on the car as soon as Eric gave me an estimate. I got to talk to Earle, who’s the owner. He’s awesome and the sweetest guy you’ll ever meet. Debbie who is the front desk manager has been there a long time and knows exactly what she’s doing! They’re all so professional and very caring to what you need. 40 West also doesn’t try to make up things wrong with the car just to get your money. It is money well spent and those mechanics who are doing work will make sure that they do quality work. I have transferred my husband to 40 West as well. Make sure if your choosing a mechanic, you choose an honest and hardworking and reliable group like 40 west!
Rob was amazing! When AAA left me stranded at night for 4 hours on the interstate because they couldn't find anyone willing to tow me, Rob was my shining hero. AAA told me I had to find my own tow(?!?!), Rob agreed to drive a significant number of miles, after he had already been working 14 hours on his day off, because he "just didn't feel right" leaving my son and me stranded on the side of the road. A big shout out to his wife, who supported him in his decision to help us, and to his friend Scott, who allowed him to sleep on his couch, after he dropped us off at 1 am. A truly wonderful team of individuals and a testament of the caring nature and integrity of the individuals that work for this organization.
