What a great place to explore. Even though it was very windy and cold it was amazing to walk through the fort and read the signs. The beach by it was gorgeous. Great place for anyone

Fascinating fort, even on a cold, blustery day when my wife and I were the only people there. Fort Popham is a neat little place, especially for history buffs (we both are). Worth a visit!

Spectacular views. No admission fee. Fun to walk around and explore. There could be more interpretation to help visitors fully appreciate the features of the fort. As a bonus, there is a lovely beach next to the fort. Well worth a visit.

This is a nice historic site for Maine. I actually went here to do some striped bass fishing and not to sight see. It’s very easy to access and walk around at your own pace. You can also take a stroll on the beach very easily or take a swim. The one thing that would make this a better site to visit is to have information plaques around the site. The location is also near a state park which is nice. It allows you to spend some quality time with the family in the outdoors.

Scenic snapshot of Maine coast line. Not Alot of details found at the fort. Highly recommend taking the spiral stairs to the second level!

Very cool fort. Lots of fun signs with good info to read. Really neat structure.

I had my wedding here and I loved that we got to use that little rock point near the fort for my wedding. It made for a fun location for my guests to talk about for years! They got to explore the fort while everyone was getting things organized and waited for the meal at the restaurant near the fort. I loved it!

Another fascinating fort on the coast of Maine. There is so much history attached to these old forts.

Great place to visit and enjoy the history and beauty of the location. There is a beach to explore. We saw seals and basking sharks too

Fun to explore and a fantastic mc ride from the Portland area. Beautiful views and a little beach you can swim

Cool place on a dead end. No fees but limited parking. Quiet, views everywhere: river, ocean, bay. Not much info, beach was cute, some fisherman and beach goers.

Fort Popham turned out to be an absolute gem—totally unexpected and completely worth the visit. The historic stone fort itself is fascinating, with its weathered walls standing guard over the water like a snapshot from another era. The surrounding park is peaceful and well-kept, and the beach was impressively clean. We lucked out with clear skies, making it the perfect spot to stretch out, listen to the waves, and watch a meteor shower light up the night. A mix of history, natural beauty, and a little bit of magic—can’t ask for more.

After years of exploring Maine I rate this place uninteresting, particularly due to the predatory local Phippsburg police activity ticketing you if you even think you can squeeze in parking in the totally unmanaged and chaotic parking zones around the fort and leading up to Spinneys restaurant. Having said this, Spinneys is a treat though pricey, in a lovely spot, and secretly almost you can bathe right up to the fort in lovely, clean calm water- and they don’t ticket you for this! the other thing about this unique place is that projections show climate change storms will sever the point from the mainland sometime in the next 2 decades, so this might be a last chance to easily visit!

Very cool historical site. See pics for information. You can walk at at will, no entry fee nor supervision. it is very cool looking out into the ocean from second floor. You can go up another flight of stairs into the tower. There is a beach right by the fort. Be aware that there are outdoor (smelly) restrooms. There were hand sanitizers. There a little restaurant just up the road a small ways.

Really neat historic place to visit if you're in the Popham beach area. Parking was difficult and limited (we visited on July 5th) but it was worth driving around the loop a few times waiting for a spot to open up.

Amazing fort with neat History. This is a five star place with one star parking. Local municipality will ticket you, if you don't park in designated spots (I didn't receive a ticket but other cars did). The fort is next to a stunning beach where people will also park for beach access. If you do manage to find a spot, walk the beach for a few minutes too.

This is such a cool experience and a great spot to bring your kids to explore and to embrace history here in Maine. Right by Popham Brach as well for a full family day.

Really a lovely cool hidden gem to take yourself to visit or bring your kids to. Outstanding piece of history that is well worthy of preservation. Check out our video on our experience on Hammocks to Coasters on YouTube.

A highly recommended destination, enjoyable year-round. Observation of the abundant seal and bird life is a particular highlight, complemented by plentiful seashells and diverse family-friendly activities. Occasional winter Polar plunger, too.

Very cool place to come and see a definitive piece of Maine history. Come with the kids feel free to explore or sit by the ocean and day dream. A nice place for a picnic as well.

Free entry and though there's not much to see it's a nice location to visit near a pocket beach that allows dogs. There's some parking but I imagine it may be difficult to find a spot during peak season.

Incredible time! I went one day after work and I still had time to enjoy the battlement and the beach. I highly recommend this area if you like a great ocean view, but not as much of the crowd. I will be going back soon when I talk my friends into it.

The gate is finally open! You can now go inside the fort, on to the second floor and even go up into one of the towers. Awesome piece of history and beautiful views all around. Easy to get to and has walkways around the area,v down to a beach, a wharf you can fish off of and Spinneys restaurant right there which has delicious seafood and ice cream. Sometimes you can see the seals.

Really cool historic site open to the public to explore. The beach next to the fort is great at low tide. Lots of birds, seagulls, herons and seals. There was a large amount of milkweed perfuming the coast, which made it heavenly! The fog this day made everything that much cooler!

(Late winter review) Great historic visit, i love seeing historic forts/landmarks in such amazing condition, the fort itself was locked up for the season so no luck with the inside this time! The beach is more of the popham beach just smaller. This time of the year is always freezing on the coast so if you plan on visiting around now then bring winter gear and make your pit stops/bathroom stops before leaving phipsburg (all public restrooms are closed till spring).

Love this place! The sign says no dogs inside the actual fort but all around it is fine. There is a small path along the water front and if the tide is low enough you can walk on the beach and climb the rocks and huge drift wood too.

Beautiful architecture. Surrounded by the ocean and beautiful dog friendly beaches. Heads up, dogs are not allowed in the fort. I went in April so it wasnt crowded which gave me the time to take it all in. Also a huge plus..they have an outdoor bathroom! Nothing fancy but I'll take it :)
