Take your business to Skip’s in SW harbor! I’ve unwillingly spent over 4k on my 2008 Subaru Outback in the past three weeks at Bob’s between a cat replacement and brake work. My check engine light came on with code reading for Catalytic Converter. I called Bob’s and explained what was going on. Told them I was at the point where I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep putting money into my vehicle for a big project or replace it. I asked for an estimate on the Cat replacement. I was told $1200 for the catalytic converter, $200 a piece for the sensors, and a few hours labor. I potentially needed a windshield washer reservoir at this time too, but was told that wouldn’t be much of anything. Given these numbers, I said ok. I got a call the next day saying the vehicle was done. Being told the replacement was complete, but the exhaust also needed replacing. But good news - only needed a repair on the line leading to the reservoir. I was told the bill was ready yet, but I could pickup Monday. Sweet! I walked in a Monday AM and was presented with a $3,000 bill. As a customer, especially a female one, getting mechanic work done feels so incredibly intimidating. We are always trying to find the honest guys, and the ones who will communicate with us truthfully. Usually there is a lapse of knowledge. I prefer to go to mechanics who are open and honest, and offer service as a mechanism for education so I can feel good about spending my hard earned money on good people. I’ve never had auto work done without a call of approval of the services were a thousand dollars more than the estimate. All of the parts were more expensive than quoted. The exhaust replacement happened without my knowledge or knowing. I walked in the next day and expressed my frustration. It felt very slimey and dishonest. Especially on an older vehicle with nearly 200k miles. I felt like I got one pulled over on me. Nothing was offered but an apology! If you’re local, particularly a local woman, take this as your sign to find a shop that values your business. Photo of receipt included.
I've known Bob for 35 years and he's as honest and reputable as they come. He's a top notch mechanic who only hires other good mechanics. They're a friendly bunch that gets the job done when you need it.
While on vacation in Bar Harbor, my brakes started making squealing noises. I went to Bob's early in the morning and immediately got a diagnosis after a short test drive. I was told that the sound indicated the brakes and rotors were needing to be replaced soon, but I could wait until I got home since we were at the end of our vacation. There was no charge for the diagnosis. I would make Bob's my auto repair shop if I lived closer to Bar Harbor!
We are visitors from the Midwest. We got a flat tire during our stay that needed patched. We met Daniel, who was so gracious to us when all of the other auto shops said they were too busy or short staffed to get to us on the same day. They were really busy at this repair shop too, but they still found a way to fit us into their busy day so that we wouldn’t miss our schooner ride. Daniel was so kind and had the vehicle completed before the day was over. We cannot thank him enough for his patience and kindness! The car has been patched and driving ever since.
when our trip to beautiful Maine came to an abrupt stop as our “British” SUV was shown no mercy by the near 0° mornings of Bar Harbor. Every road and every wonderful Mainer who we met pointed to Bob’s Auto.
Bob Davis and his crew are not only great mechanics who got us on the road as soon as possible but are just great and honest people. Not only was Bob‘s service very fair in cost especially considering the dealership parts my vehicle needed from out of town but Bob will be sure to tell you how to make the best of what the area has to offer.!! thanks guys.

In this day and age it can be hard to find a honest auto mechanic. These guys are just that. Reasonable rates and bill the hours they work. If they can't do something they will be honest and tell you up front, but when they can you'll be glad you chose Bobs in Bar Harbor. I can't recommend them enough.
Daniel was amazing in helping us determine what our truck issues were. He was kind, helpful and just plain wonderful. The mechanics were helpful, knowledgeable and simply awesome, they fixed our truck quickly. Could not be more grateful for their help!
I can’t say enough positive things about Bob’s. I was visiting Acadia and needed to have my truck towed to a Ford dealership. Bob’s arranged a tow, helped me find a reliable taxi service, and even called the Ford dealership to explain the problem with my truck. Honest and professional staff.
In our recent visit to Bar Harbor, the valve stem on my tire broke and left me with a flat. I ran to this shop on a Friday afternoon asking for help and the team there provided me information for a tow company, and took the time to replace the stem on my tire at the end of the day on Friday. Without them, I would have been stranded with no way to get back to Maryland until later in the week. I’m super grateful for their kindness and their outstanding work!
We had a check engine light come on during vacation. We were able to pull up and they checked it immediately and quickly. Extremely professional and showed us what was wrong and how it gets fixed. It was something we can drive home with, but appreciated how well we were treated!
Nick was very helpful. We had a slow leak in our tire and he patched it up quickly and helped us stay safely on vacation. 100% recommend this shop- guys were super friendly, shop is clean and they are very skilled. Highly recommend Bob’s!!!
I needed a tire replaced after sustaining damage from a pothole during a road-trip to Bar Harbor. The tire was a somewhat unusual size so they didn't have it in stock, but this shop was able to get it by the next business day, and installed it in about a half hr for a fair price. I wish all auto repair shops were as courteous and efficient as this one. I drove 600 miles back to NJ the next day without any issues. Thank you for the great service!
I went to Bob’s with a flat tire and they were able to fix it up quickly and efficiently. I was in the middle of a road trip and if it wasn’t for Bob’s I wouldn’t have been able to make the 8 hour drive back home on time. The location of the shop is also convenient and the staff is friendly and helpful!
I unfortunately caught a nail in my tire, resulting in a flat. Since I needed to get it patched, I brought it here first thing in the morning and they were able to accommodate me relatively quickly. I believe Nick helped me out, and he was very helpful and easy to talk to!

This is definitely a mechanic shop I can trust. Wilder was super knowledgeable and kind. Everyone I talked to there was very helpful and honest. They fixed my very problematic car and it was fast and affordable. I will definitely be going here next time my car tries to off itself :) thanks again guys ?

My family and I had been on the road for 10 months when a thumping sound and vibration began coming from our vehicle.
I contacted Bob's Bar Harbor Auto Repair and although they were stuffed with work they allowed me to bring in the vehicle so that they could take a look. Within 30 minutes they had the issue identified.
They ordered the part and had it installed a day earlier than what was estimated. Wilder and Nate were knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. They did excellent work and we're upfront about costs before any work began. I would encourage anyone who needed their vehicle looked at to contact these guys.

Cant recommend these guys enough. I was recommended here by several people who have lived here for years and I have not been disappointed by their services. I have run into several issues with my car this winter after moving up here and they have done such a great job at helping me out and being accommodating. They have managed to get me in last minute and always try to get my car in as soon as they can. As a young woman who knows just about nothing about cars, I realize I am a prime target for mechanics trying to make extra money. These guys are always honest with me about what is going on with my car and I fully trust them to not overcharge me. Wilder even helped me out and drove with me to work this morning with my car and took it back to the shop so they can look at it while I am at work. They all truly care about the people they service and I will be bringing any vehicle I own to them as long as I live here!
I don’t have enough positive words to do justice for these guys. Our Ford van gave a service engine error while in Acadia. The Ford places were unable to help us for days. We were referred to Bob’s by some locals so we took our van there the next morning and was there before they opened. Obviously we didn’t have an appointment but the guys worked us in, diagnosed the problem and ordered the necessary sensor. They were fantastic to work with and had us back on our vacation without a hitch. I particularly appreciated their calmness and easy going demeanor. Helped with my stress level! Nick’s certainly a top-notch mechanic! Thanks again guys and keep up the great work and service!
On 7/31/23, I went to the shop 30 minutes before opening. I explained to the mechanic that “I noticed a small nail in my tire, had been driving the car and the tire pressure had NOT decreased at all in past 24 hours, but I wanted to know whether it needed fixing”, the mechanic told me he can patch it and quickly was about to remove the nail while it was still in the parking lot (not inside the shop). I asked him to hold up, “before you remove that nail, what is price? And wait time?” He answered $46 and maybe 1.5 hours, I didn’t have that time and felt price was steep for a patch. so I moved on. (If nail was removed and it had penetrated, I would have been held captive to whatever price and timing they wanted. I just didn’t understand the rush to remove the nail)
In and out in 3 hours with a repaired tire with no appointment. They swapped my tire requiring repair with my spare so I had my car with zero downtime. Spent my time enjoying Bar Harbor. I wrench my cars and appreciate the knowledge of the mechanics. Thanks guys.
This place is great! Went in with no appointment, just a suspicion of low/leaking engine coolant, and Nick came out very quickly to check the car. He put our fears to rest by letting us know there weren't any issues, and didn't charge us. We made the long drive back to Boston with no issues. Thanks Nick!
Our car broke down in Acadia National Park on a Saturday afternoon while we were visiting from Massachusetts. It got towed to Bobs around 430pm and the shop was closed. Around 630pm we went back to the shop and were going to try some simple fixes we had found on YouTube.
Nick happened to be there working on a car but obviously this was not during his regular work hours. I let him know we were just checking some things on our car and he asked what was not working. He immediately came over and popped the hood. Diagnosed the issue within 5 minutes and set to work on fixing it. Again at 630pm on a Saturday.
Nick found a small piece in the shop and fixed the car so that we could get home (we were leaving the next day). It would have cost us so much more money to stay until Monday potentially rent a car etc. and he fixed it without even asking. He did remind us this was a temporary fix, showed us how to fix it if we got stuck again and that we needed to get a permanent fix once we got home.
I would 100% recommend this shop to anyone. Their service is above and beyond. Thank you so much for helping us out this weekend.
Bobs Auto Repair was fantastic in helping repair my brakes! While visiting from out of town, my car became undriveable. Everyone at the shop was incredibly communicative, kind, and fair when diagnosing and quickly fixing the problem. Im so grateful for Bobs Auto, they saved out trip!
On vacation from Indiana, we were visiting Acadia NP. We got back into our van and it wouldn’t start. After finding someone with jumper cables 30 minutes later, we looked up this place to see if they could help us with a battery. We didn’t call ahead, didn’t have a reservation. Walked in and Grayson behind the counter found us the battery we needed, installed it himself, and gave us a great deal! They were so fast that our family of 4 boys didn’t even have to get out of the van! We were so thankful for this place and HIGHLY recommend it!
While driving thru Acadia in my convertible I heard a click click click and pulled over to find a roofing nail in the rear wheel of my Porsche. Bobs auto took us immediately and fixed the hole with a patch. Thank God for Chris the Tech and Amy in the office!
First of all, a big thank you to Bob's Bar Harbor for saving this Mom an 8 hr. trip from NJ on July 4th weekend.
My daughter and her boyfriend went on their first camping trip July 4th weekend. We are from NJ so I was already not happy about her being 8 hrs. away from home in a 2011 car. After climbing Cadillac Mt. the check engine light came on and was flashing (we've had the light come on before but never flashing) so we had her go back to the campsite for the night and the next morning I began reading reviews on Goggle for repair shops.
Bob's immediately stood out because several NJ folks talked about Bob's shop helping them while on vacation. So I called them (this is all from NJ) explained the situation and was told to have them drop off the car even though they were slammed with repairs to do. The gentleman ordered some parts in anticipation of what could be wrong. This was a Friday, so if they couldn't fix it, there would be no one open for repairs until the following Tuesday so I'd be driving up to Maine in my 2004 mini van to get them as they had nowhere to stay and were not old enough to book a motel room.
My daughter dropped off the car, said the shop was polite and calm with her, she was very upset and told them to go have lunch and relax.
I got a call a couple hours later that the car was fixed enough to get her back to Jersey, but that the car needed a full tune up (which he didn't have time to do, which I fully understood) and that the car needed a new intake breather hose (which they didn't have for our model/year, again, fine for a holiday weekend) $112 later my daughter was on her way and this mom didn't have to drive 8 hrs. to get them!!!!
Thanks again for the help and for your advice on the future car repairs, it's in the shop now getting fixed for our drive to Cape Cod soon!!! Many thanks for going above and beyond for the tourists that come to your beautiful Island and town!!!!!
Our brakes started making a grinding noise while we were in Bar Harbor for vacation, and they got us in same-day to take a look at the issue. While they were very busy (always a good sign!) they managed to squeeze us in and fix the car within just a few days (including new parts).
