What clients say about Midwest Scrap Management in Topeka (KS)
We have used the non ferrous building with Tristan helping us several times and it is AMAZING. VERY polite, efficient, fair, works quickly, explains any questions. Highly recommend.
Very helpful, respectful, even helped e get stuff out of bed of truck when I was struggling to get it out. And gave me best prices they could. Thank you!
They didn't return my drivers license to me after our transaction. I returned the next day, they said it wasn't there. I don't believe they even looked. Poor customer service from the guy in the metal building and the woman in the office. I live a mile from this place, next time I'm going across town.
I took a friend here that needed help hauling some aluminum rims.
Disrespectful:
The staff was disrespectful and didn't treat me or my friend well.
Weight discrepancy:
I wish I had weighed the items before taking them because they gave us half of what I thought the rims weighed.
No Transpericey:
You have an area your supposed to stand and the scale and computer aren't visae from that location. After the receipt was given I walked over to the computer and the weight was manually imputed in the computer. I will not be using there services again.
Future:
I will drive across town to avoid the disrespect and theft of weight from my last visit.
UPDATE 8/4/24 Management has changed and my latest experiences have been bad. Bad experiences primarily related to metals building. Although I've noted some inefficiencies (the same two metals building staff standing around doing nothing, observed 3 times) and poor customers service in general (MSM trucks tareing rolloffs and slowing down customers during customer open hours). The yard is also not working with the city and customers to minimize traffic congestion and minimize traffic hazards.
Still OK for shred and some defined metals but everything else is bad.
ORIGINAL Great place to visit. Friendly and helpful staff. Neatest cleanest scrap yard ever! Keep it up Dan & Jose! Is there one day of the week that has less semi truck traffic that would be better for the small guys?
Called the office to find out what time the yard closed at 3:50 pm and the lady who answered the phone said 4:15 so I told her I'm on my way with a 5 minute drive ,I get there at 4:13 an they were closing the last gate to enter with a few people waiting for the scales so I go to copper areas they tod ne there closed an the pretty gal there was polite was nit wanting to turn the computer back on but went to ask the office fir advice while the guys were chomping at gums with no teeth talking slick from a black meth mouth about he's gotta get home as I begged to just cash me out I was in desperate need of the money unfortunately it was the closest yard but I won't go back they give off bad vibes an if it wasn't for the dark haired gal trying to help me I would have caught a case due to a couple slick mouths, the vibe I got was seller beware weigh it before you come to yard in the hood .
It takes way too long for people to clear the scales. I finally drove off, abandoning what little money I had coming to me. I will go elsewhere next time.
This is one of the worst business in Topeka! For starters the people here are rude, no decency, the lady that works here is so beyond RATCHET you can tell just by the way she talks. Do not go here!
Never went to this scrap yard in Topeka. Had some stuff I dropped off that I won on purple wave. Nice clean facilities! They had the shredder metal in a nice neat pile. Scrap yard had concrete instead of dirt. So your vehicle wouldn't get stuck in mud and pick up hidden objects in the mud. The concrete was very nice to have. This place pays you through an ATM on your receipt after you've weighed your empty weight. Myself and another customer had trouble with the ATM. But employees there were very friendly and help you with the ATM machine so that you could get your money. The employees there were very nice and helpful! One gentleman seemed to be able to be in all areas at once with the forklift the non-ferrous metal room and the shredder metal pile and the ATM. I would recommend this place to anyone in the Topeka area that collect scrap metal. And I just wanted to let them know that their employees were very friendly and the gentleman that was running around the facilities helping us with the ATM guiding Us in the right direction and also making sure that the pile of 10 and Shredder feed was cleaned up so we could get our van and did an excellent job he deserves a raise!
Horrible, ran by a bunch of shady north topekans. Save yourself the headache and the urge to choke the morbidly obese lady upfront and go to a different scrapyard.
Best place in Topeka (2cd would be Baily's) been going there for 5 years and never have had an issue. I've seen people Tryn to get over on them, but the old guy in charge is always on his game . Also that yard is looking great compared to 3 or 4 years ago will continue to go there till I'm to old to move.
They keep dropping prices it's not worth it at the moment to take scrap in. Sad how they make sure they get their money's worth but the community sure took a cut in price when taking stuff in. Thanks Midwest scrap management but I'm done giving you money while you take more from me. Nice knowing you!
They are crooks. They ALLOW stolen products. They never have anyone overlooking what's being dropped off. The thieves in town all know this and steal anything metal. BBQ grills, kids bikes, outside furniture, vehicles, air conditioners, etc... The people working there are some of the rudest and unhelpful people. There is no order. People will just keep coming in and you're stuck waiting to leave but can't. They also do a horrible job at keeping the drop off zone decent. The screw in your tire will cost more to fix than you'll get from a truck load of scrap. The few times I've been, the drop off area has tons of screws everywhere. It isn't worth it if you get a flat from their property.
I would recommend going to Bailey Recycling & scrap metals. The property is much cleaner and they are super helpful and polite. I have been going there for years.
the teller woman is very rude and unprofessional in the way she speaks and acts. won’t let us weigh out because she’s mad. very rude! will not refer back
I took aluminum to recycle. I hadn't been there for awhile. I was quite pleased with the updates. No long line waiting for 1 staff person to take the information & turn it into a check. Weigh on the scale upon arrival, unload, weigh, take a ticket, drive to the ATM, & get paid in cash. Nice.
My son and I are up early on a Saturday to cash in his cans. Sign and Google say open on Saturdays from 8-12. It is 10:30, gates are locked and we are not the only ones out here wondering why the gates are locked. Called, voice mail was full. A sign, a notice or a general out going message on you phone would have been nice and saved us a trip.
Scrap prices are way down not worth the trouble of saving cans you use at home, by the time you factor in your time and trouble plus gas I actually lost money!!!
