This review concerns the service department. We have been bringing our Hondas to this location for maintenance /repair for many years and it’s typically reasonable and transparent.
Unfortunately we had a very negative experience today. My wife made an appointment for her 2024 Passport, 25K miles, with an A12 code (oil/filter change along with minor checks). She met with the service advisor, Mike who indicated that in addition to the above, the brake fluid needed changing (this is incorrect as its typically recommended after 3 years), a tire alignment (without even checking the alignment and there were no driving issues) and a transmission fluid change (typically recommended 30-60K miles.
Ack! Most of the recommendations he made were unnecessary/ incorrect after we researched them. This was gross oversell & pressure to jack up the cost of repairs.
We will seriously consider service elsewhere and next time do our research before taking the car in.Feb 06, 2026 -
Update: They won't help me other than buying the car back for pennies on the dollar or selling me another car.
Sold me a 2013 Kia soul plus. Within 6 months it's already experienced complete engine failure from a mechanical rod bearing issue that caused the engine to seize. It has the exact same engine as the 2014 Kia soul base model but for some reason, it didn't get the same 15 year, 150k mile warranty that the 2014 base model did in the lawsuit settlement. After getting it towed multiple times and eventually diagnosed at Oakes Kia with the rod bearing failure, they won't help me, even though I just bought the car less than 6 months ago. I'm out 7500, a car and I still have to make 300$ a month payments on a car that doesn't work and would be more expensive to fix than it's worth. It's honestly kind of heartbreaking.Feb 06, 2026 -
Go here for maintenance, haven't bought a car from them. They now charge the customer 3% on all credit and debit card transactions.
Have always had nice service people and communication from them. I like the waiting area and proximity to downtown OP. There have been times where communication on all of the items they suggested is not explained well, felt like a cash grab. I also wish they’d stop asking to buy my car.Jan 30, 2026 -
I had a great sales experience working with Tim Coonce! He was friendly, knowledgeable, listened to what I needed, and supported MY requirements for a fair deal. We had Afshin as our sales consultant and he was great. We came in about 2 hours from close and he ended up staying 2 hours after close for us. He was patient with the fact that we looked at about 5 cars- drove 2. Then we got the ball rolling!
Brendon is the only person I trust with my finances as the sales director. He also stayed past close and got us amazing rates as well.

I recently purchased a Honda Civic from McCarthy Honda. I came in with my boyfriend to have his Honda Accord serviced that he had purchased from the same location a year ago. George Abuhl was my sales guy. George was very friendly and helpful as this was my first time trying to purchase a car. He did everything to make sure I was knowledgeable as I definitely felt intimidated at the process of making my first big purchase such as a car. He and Jesse both assured my boyfriend and I that we were getting a good deal and that this car would last me a long time. I have had my car for a week and I love it. I’m very pleased with my experience and will be coming back to get any of my car servicing done.

Went shopping for a used vehicle at approximately 10 different car dealerships. My daughter found what she wanted at McCarthy Honda in Overland Park, KS. Our salesman, Brad Rose, was a pleasure to deal with. He was patient during the process and was understanding when we took several days to decide what we wanted to do. McCarthy dealerships have always been fair to me. I still have a 2004 Nissan I purchased from one of their dealerships almost 22 years ago!!

My family has used Honda McCarthy for 3 years now and we take our vehicle in regularly for maintenance. Every other visit, we end up replacing parts we’ve already replaced in the same year- when we question the technicians assessment we are met with the fear tactic of your car will break down if you don’t do what the suggest. Our vehicle is 130,000 miles and has had expensive parts like the time cover replaced which costs $1,600- this has been replaced numerous times. I don’t trust the assessment of the staff. We’ve invested over 10 grand into repairs using this dealership. I don’t know if they are upselling us or taking advantage of our willingness to repair the car. Regardless, it’s abnormal that the same parts are repetitively “needing” repair when we do repairs every quarter every year to maintain the vehicle.

I would strongly caution anyone considering leasing or buying from McCarthy Honda. My experience from start to finish was marked by misinformation, pressure tactics, and a complete lack of transparency.
From the beginning, on a Saturday in late September, I was given conflicting and incorrect information. I was told by one salesperson that going over mileage on a lease “didn’t matter as long as I traded it in,” only to have another employee then immediately admit that was not true. I was also given false information about vehicle features, including being told three separate times that I would receive a free one-year HondaLink subscription, only to find out after signing that my vehicle wasn’t even compatible. No one clarified this until I returned to the dealership in person.
There were also serious concerns around credit inquiries. I explicitly stated I only wanted my credit run at only one dealership, but was told they needed to run it to give me numbers — yet when I decided to leave that day, they immediately produced exact figures down to the decimal. My dad was a co-signer. I was told it was illegal to run his credit without him present, but that if I stepped outside and did it myself, they “wouldn’t know.”
The sales pressure was relentless. When I asked for 24 hours to think on it, I was guilted with comments about how much money the dealership was losing on me. I was even told by my sales guy not to leave until a manager could be assured that he did nothing wrong. I should have known after leaving that day that they weren’t trustworthy and to stay away. On Monday they reached back out and after telling them I wouldn’t be back after my experience 2 days prior, they told me they wanted to do whatever they could to make things right and earn my business and said they would offer me a better deal on a newer car. I confirmed a 5:30 pm pickup time after being told at 3:40 pm that the car was being cleaned for me — only to arrive and be told the car had been sold out from under me. No alternatives were offered until my dad and I became visibly upset about the wasted time. Only then was I offered a different vehicle, which I reluctantly accepted just to be done with the process.
The customer survey process was completely inappropriate. The salesperson filled it out himself, circled all 10s before even reading the questions, and told me it was “pass/fail.” Later, another employee mentioned his bonus depended on those scores. This happened before finance was even involved and does not reflect my actual experience.
There were also basic administrative failures — my old plates were put back on the car, and I only received paper tags the next day after asking. I was then told they had “forgotten” they were registering the lease for me.
Finally, and most importantly, 3 months later I am still dealing with a known Apple CarPlay/connectivity defect that was never disclosed prior to purchase. Honda has allegedly been working on a fix for months, yet the issue has worsened to the point where calls and navigation randomly disconnect — even when plugged in via USB-C. I am paying for a car I cannot reliably use for calls or navigation.
If anyone is wanting a Honda, I strongly advise to go anywhere other than this location.Dec 17, 2025 -
As a young woman who just moved to the KC area, buying a car without getting scammed felt extremely daunting. I had gone to a few other dealerships where my budget was kind of brushed off, or I was only shown really rundown cars, which was frustrating and discouraging.
I decided to check out McCarthy Honda and was honestly blown away by the experience. Maddy was incredible—she actually listened to what I was looking for, respected my budget, and pulled cars that genuinely fit my style and needs. She even printed out the CarFax before we looked at anything, which immediately made me feel more comfortable and informed.
During the test drives, Maddy was super knowledgeable and answered all my questions without ever making me feel stupid or talked down to (which unfortunately isn’t always the case). She made what could’ve been a stressful process feel easy and straightforward.
Even after I purchased the car, the communication didn’t stop. McCarthy Honda went above and beyond by running additional tests and making several repairs just to make sure I felt completely reassured driving off the lot. That level of care really meant a lot to me.
Overall, Maddy and the team at McCarthy Honda turned a really intimidating experience into a seamless one. I can’t recommend them enough—especially if you’re new to the area or nervous about buying a carDec 16, 2025 -
Everyone at McCarthy Honda made my car buying experience smooth. They made me feel good about the car I was buying by explaining everything in detail. Nobody was pushy and I really appreciated that. I will refer all my family and friends to you and Im already a repeat customer. My Honda CRV, which I love is my second car I’ve gotten from McCarthy Honda!

I wasn't going to make this post. But I felt I had to shed some Light on the unprofessional like behavior I experienced while potentially trying to do business with this dealership. I did a value estimate on the website. It came in lower than the other places, so they weren't my first pick. I get a call from a kid Kaiden. He sent a video to identify himself. I didn't go in to look at this dealerships crv since they wanted to give me less for my trade, and I didn't want to waste gas.i got an approval from a Honda dealership that also offered a free lifetime warranty. Reached out to Kaiden about a feature and McCarthy also had a color hybrid I liked. He asked how they could earn my business. Asked if they could beat the rate I already was approved for. He said they could by 15 bucks. I asked what other incentives come with buying from them. That's when things got bad. He said they sould good 2 free oil changes, but I got busy at work and couldn't reply. So he calls me. My phone pre screens calls before I answer if it's a number not saved. So I get a voicemail filled with him and a co worker talking slick about how they don't have to throw in anything free to earn my business. And calling me a bum. I then texted him and told him I wouldn't be doing business with this company and it was a huge lack of maturity between him and his co worker. I guess mccarthy hires anyone.

Purchased a Honda Passport from Carlos. Super easy experience. Carlos explained everything with absolutely no “high pressure” sales tactic, hidden fees, or back-and-forth negotiations. The final sales price was lower than I expected and I love the vehicle! Highly recommend McCarthy Honda and ask for Carlos!!!

I had a bad experience with this dealership. The salesman presented a car. We test drove it and made the deal. Two days later he presents the maintenance report which showed $5k more in repairs needed. The deal fell through and he sends me another car. I thought he was making the deal right as this car was out of my price range. Not the case. His manager calls only to inform me he was not coming down on the price and never called back with any other options. Horrible experience as my USAA financing was already enroute and has been received. I would not recommend this place to anyone. In all my years of car buying, this was the worse

I signed up for service online and was quoted a total of about $500 for the work. By the time all was said and done, however, I walked out with a bill of $3500.00. I've subsequently talked to a few other people who have had the same experience.
They rely on bait and switch, confusing quote practices, and service adviser double-talk to overcharge. If I thought it worthwhile, I'd take them to court. But, what's done is done, and I'll just put these crooks, literally, in my rear view mirror.
I can't really speak to the dealership side of things, but if their service department operates like this, I'm guessing their sales department is just as shady. It's probably just part of their playbook.
McCarthy will never get another cent from me and, thankfully, I already have a few excellent referrals for some independent Honda mechanics. I've shown the bill to a couple of them, and they were shocked.
BOTTOM LINE: STAY AWAY FROM MCCARTHY HONDA UNLESS YOU ENJOY THROWING MONEY AWAY.Nov 07, 2025 -
Bought my Honda crv from here about 6 months ago. Maddy helped me. I specifically requested a woman. She was tough but still fair and competent. I spent a good deal of time talking and making sure this large purchase was what I wanted. As a woman, it is nice to have a woman to speak with. Car salespeople aren't exactly known for treating women fairly. She did a great job regardless of gender, and we negotiated and found a happy place for both of us. My overall experience was great, and my crv drives perfectly.

What impressed me the most was how clearly everything was explained on the financial side. He took the time to walk me through every detail, including payment options, warranties and available programs, without ever feeling rushed or pressured. Had a great experience from the minute I walked in the door and was greeted by Ben. He asked some questions about what I was looking for and what features. He showed me a particular Honda CRV. I let him know that I would have to speak with my husband, and I will get back with him by Monday. However, after speaking with my husband, we ended up going back the next day. We were happily greeted by Brad. We did end up purchasing the car. Brad was very gracious and funny. Terrific guy! He showed us all the features on the car. Walked us through everything. It was a great experience at McCarthy.

This is a continuation of our story from yesterday. On October 9, 2025, after the associate at the Metcalf U-Haul refused to help jump-start our Honda Accord, we went to McCarthy Honda for assistance. A staff member there immediately offered to help—without any hesitation.
Today, they helped us again! This afternoon, my husband noticed that the hazard lights on our Honda Accord were stuck on and wouldn’t turn off. The light covers had become very hot to the touch. We rushed over to McCarthy Honda, and when we arrived, I went straight to the service area to explain our problem. A male staff member listened carefully and patiently, then asked my husband to drive the car in.
He quickly identified the issue by checking under the driver’s side of the car, in a very uncomfortable position. He then guided us to the parts department to buy a pedal stopper. The parts department employee told us that it was a very difficult part to install—but he and another mechanic teamed up and got it done! We watched them work and saw for ourselves how tricky it was.
We were so grateful and deeply touched by their kindness. It was late on a Friday afternoon—just minutes before closing—but they still took the time to help us. We honestly don’t know what would have happened to our car if they hadn’t stepped in.

It was a great experience! We love the car sold to us! They had many colors to choose from and a good assortment of models. Prices seemed fair. Mostly pros but one con was that information/prices kept changing the further we progressed into the final sale. So be careful of what is said and have all agreements in writing! We would recommend anyone purchasing from McCarthy and would come back for additional vehicles in the future!

0 stars. Bought my new accord from them. First the battery was dead so they put a
New one in. After we made the deal they tell me the car was in a hail storm and someone had back into it in the parking lot. When I picked it up the car was dirty inside and out. There was some type of firm on the windows that I had to clean myself. When I got home I noticed the the tail light was broken so I text the sals person. He said to bring the car in on Tuesday and they would look at it. So I drove 45 minutes for them to have me pull the car into service and go in to parts and order
The new light. They never even looked at the car so this could have been done over the phone. 2 days later I took the car in to have the light replaced. When they got done there were scuffs on the bumper The GM was
Avoiding me when I asked to talk to him but I was not leaving until I talked to him. When I did talk to him He said they would detail the car for me and give me a loaner car he told
Me it would take a hour to clean the car. I just had the best experience at this McCarthy Honda and all because of our expert salesperson, Maddy. This lovely lady went above and beyond in making sure that we were taken care of to a T. They were all not only patient but also willing to work with me because of my skepticism at other dealerships. Buying a car is definitely not a straight forward process, but working with this particular salesperson-Maddy, showed me that they had the ability to not only work with us, but also make sure that we were treated like family. While looking for a car Maddy made us feel welcome and had a lot of knowledge and expertise which helped building rapport and trusting her to help with my car buying needs. In the future I will definitely be coming back to buy another car from her! Please- remember to ask for Maddy Gaddy, she is a young, talented individual and you won’t be disappointed!

Absolutely awesome experience here. Maddy, Jesse, and Bob were fantastic. The sales process was seamless and very efficient. Never felt pressured with sales pushes and everything was explained throughly. They even got my windows tinted the same day which was fantastic. It was my first experience at a Honda dealer and I'm officially a Honda fan.
