What clients say about Overland Park Drop Off Recycling Center in Overland Park (KS)

Pros - .Always clean and orderly. .Well managed . Full array of bins for recycling appropriate materials. . Staff has been very helpful answering questions. On this basis alone, I would give them a 5 stars in a heartbeat. Con - What hurts it badly for me is their limited schedule. Entry gates close at 3:50 PM during every open day. My morning schedule does not allow for me to be there then. Often my afternoon schedule is not freed for going till after 4:30. So bags of materials sit in my car trunk sometimes for several days till I can meet their limited schedule. In addition, this forces me to go during peak afternoon summer heat. And blistering sun. With dangerously high UV. So it adds a level of severe discomfort for me, when the temperature exceeds 90 degrees. Higher than 92, it's too dangerous for me to go, due to being prone to heat exhaustion. I strongly suggest that the Center is kept open till at least 6PM. Even 7pm. This will allow folks to utilize it after work. And also the sun will be lower and cooler.

I had to call 3 times just to get through the line and speak with someone when, I finally spoke with someone. They acted as if they were oblivious as to what type of Facility they work at. Very discouraging.

Nice people who work there…monitoring us as we dispose of items in the appropriate place. Always friendly and helpful. I do wish they were open longer.

Pulled up and got all my recycles taken care of. All the bins are labeled. They take plastics, cardboard, paperboard and aluminum.

Hours were recently rearranged, with earlier opening times, but losing an open day per week. I wish there were more available and open recycling centers in the city, especially for apartment dwellers who often don't have it as an on-site option, but answers are neither easy nor inexpensive.

Was looking forward to using this center as we are new to OP. Unfortunately, they were closed when their website & phone recording said they were open. The website said they close at 4pm on Saturday and quit accepting people through the gate at 3:50pm. I arrived at 2:50pm and it was closed. Called them and received a recording noting the same hours as their website. Perhaps their hours changed and their public facing communication wasn't updated? Unfortunate that I spent several hours of a Saturday on this and now need to drive around with my van full of recyclables until the center opens on...Wednesday...if that part of their website is true. Hopefully, this is an anomaly.

Great, well managed center, been using this place for 3 years now and they've made some great improvements. The drop off center has specific bins for each type of material to go into and all open bins are labeled with clear signs. If you ever have any questions, the staff member, Austin, is very knowledgeable and can answer your questions. Pro tip- they also have a bin dedicated to moving boxes that people can grab from and contribute to

Great place to go drop off your recyclables, but I can't go as often as I would like with such limited hours.. I have a full time job with packed weekend schedules..

This place has horrible hours and lazy employees. For people like myself that typically work until 6:30-7:00p each night, them closing at 3:50p is annoying, especially when that makes Saturday the only day many of us can use without wasting our entire lunch breaks on it. Then, they close the Saturdays before and after holidays for literally no reason, which means a lot of us end up with overflowing bins because we lose our one day to make a drop off. Stop taking Saturdays off as “holiday” time. Just make it a half day. It's not like the employees actually do anything except sit inside the trailer watching TV on their phones so just give them holiday pay and stop inconveniencing everyone else.

I have changed my review because I believe this place has made some positive changes in the past few months---in staffing and in daily operations. You are much appreciated, keep up the good work!!

Lived in the area for 20 years and the recycling center has never been better. Everything is clean, organized, efficient and the man running it had the answers to all my questions.

Great place to drop off moving cardboard boxes. Also great for plastics and aluminum cans. Clear signage at every recycling bin if you aren’t sure where to drop things off. There is also an attendant there you can knock on their door for any clarifying questions.

Very clean and organized recycling center. The staff person, Austin, is also very knowledgeable if you have any questions. Bins have doors or windows to throw materials in, they are not open on top.

Austin is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. He has lots of resources for those who have items that can't be accepted at this location.

As usual, in spite of all the current US/world issues, OP Recycling Dropoff is back to it's full function. Staff member on site to help, all the standard bins in place with room in each, other patrons parking properly & respecting personal spacing, a terrific experience as it has usually been. Glad I took the chance to bring my recycling & check it out today. A touch of normality in tense times.

Very good place, but they will be closed on sunday. They won't accept styrofoam/thermocoal. Other than that very good drop off place. Staff is helpful if don't know which is right bin to drop off stuff.

Awesome to have this as an option when your apartment complex doesn’t offer recycling and it’s free! They take pretty much everything just be prepared to have it sorted out. Cheat sheet below! No e recycling at the time of this writing (19 Dec 2018) but I think Experimac OP takes most stuff and it’s down the street. The people here are helpful especially when you have questions about how things are sorted! Be aware-there are 6(ish) spaces for cars so remember to try and be as quick as possible and pre-sort. CHRISTMAS tip-it looks like they aren’t taking wrapping paper or tissue paper for this year. Cardboard container- corrugated and flattened Paperboard-anything shiny (packaging boxes for cereal, laundry detergent powder, food boxes, 12 packs), toilet paper rolls etc. Plastics and aluminum-laundry detergent bottles, water bottles, cans, body care bottles. Just consider rinsing it out because of the smell and possible contamination. Glass bottles and jars-remove the lids or caps or corks. They have a little box for the tops) Paper is divided but in the same container-one side is junk mail/office paper and the other is catalogs/ad inserts (think shiny) Newspaper and paper shopping bags-last container.

It is easily accessible and has nice big bins. It is encouraging to see the number of people who take the time and energy to bring recycleable items to the drop off.

I made my last move using recycled materials from here. Will return the cardboard there. Super organized and clean center. Definitely a bright spot for OP and Joco. Incredible customer service too.

Website is out of date, they don’t take CFL bulbs or rechargeable batteries anymore. Staff recommended taking to an alternative business that doesn’t actually exist.

I will recycle once in every other weekend. Great place. One can recycle only plastic bottles not plastic films and plastic bags here. We can't recycle already recycled cardboards here. Also one can recycle electronics waste here.
