It's better not to go there, they're cheating people on both the scales and the price. I was there today and gave aluminum. At first, they said the price would be 45 cents a pound, then they changed their minds and gave the price 30 cents a pound. I unloaded all the aluminum from my car, and when I came to get the money for my metal, they told me that I brought from 200 pound of water, and the total weight was 840 pound. When I said you were laughing at me before they gave me $195 in cash and said come here. This company didn't give me any invoice, even though they have a cash dispenser machine. They scammed me out of $183 This isn't the first time they've wanted to scam me. It's better to go to Topeka or Kansas City, where you can give your metal twice the price and no one will fool you like these people. The only normal one there is the girl in the window.
It's where I have recycled metals for years. Fair prices and the staff is always friendly! New management has cleaned up the facility and it is almost unrecognizable!
First time customer. It would be hard to find a more pleasant person than the nice woman that guided me through the recycling process. She was pleasant, patient, and helpful throughout. Lawrence overall has a base of friendly people, and SMI personnel were no exception.
This business is an excellent resource, and in a convenient location. They accept many items that we can’t put in the trash, and pay for some of them. Rodrigo, at the scale, is very helpful.
Their website info is inconsistent with the reality. First of all, their website stated that they have 24/7 drop-off, but it is not there anymore. I have been here dropping off bottles and junk mails before and there used to be a bin. It’s not there anymore and the website did not update. The website also stated they took plastics, and Lawrence City website also listed them as accepting Plastic 1-7, which is almost all day-to-day plastics. So because I cannot drop off “at my own leisure” I went there with some bags of plastic during their business hours, but I was stopped by one of their workers when I tried to drop off these plastics because some of them were not “plastic bottles” (I have some shipping bags and hard plastics in there) and that worker did not seem to be helpful at recognizing the materials. In the end I left out of frustration after throwing a few bottles into their pile.
Wow..ripped my son and nephew off with an entire truck of metal,aluminum,stainless steel, and motors...their excuse was it wasn't seperated..that may be true but they could've told them that they would only get $20 if not separated they were just kids..wow and this is literally the 2nd or 3rd review I have ever made so I'm not that "person" will never go back again
Very cool recycle center...helpful staff and fair prices paid for your scrap metal! Did you know you can also BUY scrap metal there too...very awesome if you need a piece of metal for a project. You can also purchase a very nice finely ground mulch there made from locally processed recycled pallets; what a great eco-friendly choice. It is sold in bulk by the CY so bring your pickup truck.
