Crusty old man operator sits inside a little shack and only comes out to yell at people for nonsense reasons.
The collection bins are always a mess, with debris scattered on the grounds around them and mixed media not being properly sorted, and that's "IF" they aren't completely full, with signs on them stating that nothing else is to be accepted in them.
Then there is the matter of the property itself, which is a nasty gravel-mud mix, with NO pavement anywhere, so it is guaranteed that your shoes and your vehicle are going to end-up a complete mess (especially after inclement weather when there are large unavoidable puddles of standing water everywhere) or you will pick-up debris in your tire(s) causing a puncture...which has happened to me at least twice now!!
Also no hazardous materials drop-off for aerosol cans, electronics etc.
Everything about this place just SUCKS!!!
I am thankful we have a recycle center in Ellettsville. And thankful there are big items disposal times the first full week of each month. It is kept well and not an eyesore. Handy stop when running errands.
I love recycling and disposing of trash at this location! Lee is super kind, friendly, and enthusiastic about recycling! The Trading Post is also a fun place to donate as well as discover surprises. Thank you, Monroe County and Lee!
The person working today (Lee) was very rude. He monitored my every move, made sure I wore a mask (which I do) but let others go without.
He made me leave while I was dropping off because a truck had arrived, but let others stay. I have no idea what the deal was.
This place is frequently not open during the posted open hours and they change frequently. They often don't take all the recyclables so you often have to make a 2nd trip. I would just plan to go to a different location.
Friendly staff, center is easy to get in and out of. One drawback: they don't take light bulbs for recycling, very unfortunate. They do however take electronic devices (items with cords, essentially), have a bulk metal bin, and on certain days accept large items like sofas Etc. Four and a half Stars, it's just a drag but they don't accept light bulbs, which wine up in the garbage unless the patron is willing to drive well in to Bloomington to a different recycling center.
