Incomplete-Negligent Unsafe work.
I brought my 2003 Ford Explorer to J&B Auto Service for what was quoted as a $390 intake manifold gasket job. That quickly turned into $889.98+$31.15 in debit card fees after they claimed the manifold was cracked I agreed and ordered the replacement. I supplied a full gasket set and spark plugs myself the gasket set was not used despite being provided.
After picking up my truck, I found:
• 5 bolts missing (3 ignition coil pack bolts, 2 thermostat housing bolts) says the 2 thermostat bolts are under and clearly are not.
• My engine cover was gone but recovered upon my second visit.
• The gasket kit I provided was still in the box, barely touched says they used the one that came with the manifold, but used the O ring I provided. Charged $100 in spark plug labor, says they charge $180 for that. Mind you the manifold already had to come off meaning the tech had full access to the plugs should really be 50-$80 as a bundle not a stand alone job. Especially being I provided my own.
• They filled the cooling system with water, not coolant
• My engine now runs worse than it did before. Sure it didn’t idle on its own but it ran smooth and could punch it if I needed. Now it does idle on its own but choppy, rough and hesitant to accelerate. And now overheating? Never had an overheating issue before. Says the head gaskets going bad that “only time will tell” which sounds like a good way of saying I don’t know I do all my fluids/oil changes and have never had milky oil. No Smokey exhaust. No fumes entering cabin.
• Fumes are entering the cabin did not happen before, giving me headaches brought up and dismissed. Only put bolts on ignition coil packs after coming back in the very next morning.
• The ABS light remains on, meaning codes were never cleared after taking the engine apart and put back together. Which means it probably wasn’t diagnosed before hand.
The now active P0174 code which indicates the system too lean condition on Bank 2, would explain the rough idle, poor acceleration, reduced engine performance, and the presence of exhaust fumes in the cabin — all signs consistent with a vacuum leak or improperly sealed intake manifold following a major engine repair. I’ve followed up twice after the pick up, immediately the next morning and even later that afternoon after nearly being rear ended pulling into Greenbay Rd.
This was not just bad service — it was negligent and unsafe work. Once the tech was done it should have been looked over and clearly was not. I now have photo evidence of the missing parts and improper repairs. When I raised my concerns, the shop dismissed them to a shop worker, This experience cost me over $1000 and put my health at risk. Not to mention the 3.5% debit card fees. Never have I seen that high.
If you care about your safety and your vehicle, do not trust this place.
Had came in for power steering so I can be able to turn better had to get a power steering pump I’m confused on why it’s leaking everywhere came up there two days after the fixed it see if they really fixes it went to Transmission place so I can see what all I need done or fixed why person at the place say it’s leaking only thing that’s been leaking is power steering fluid like what did my money go to had I a belt didn’t need a new one just for y’all to put it back on no y’all had me order one if you don’t understand anyone really been on park since I went to yall so really haven’t drove anywhere not safe to drive sad I order the parts can’t trust nobody I’m young black Jamaican I know my stuff so just seems to me you needed the money atp sad I’m loyal to my car who fixes on it for being a gift from my parents y’all treated me bad that’s all I’m say I won’t be coming back at all thank you for whatever service y’all did cause really made it worse now it’s leaking everywhere on my engine
I WOULD NEVER EVER GO HERE !!!! THEY TRY TO PLAY WOMEN LIKE WE DOMT KNOW NO BETTER HAD MY ENGINE DELIVERED FOR THEM TO GIVE ME BACK SOME OF MY MONEY BACK AND TRYED TO SAY I LIED ABOUT THE MONEY I ALREADY GAVE THEM !!! Now I’m stuck with a engine with no where to go !!!!!!
Wonderful experience the family is very customer-oriented they are willing to go the extra mile to serve their customers and they will not try to sell you something to make a sale honest hard-working I'm really happy every time I go in to get service they really do help you and you don't have to worry about being swindled swindled like some of these other places I've been. I won't be looking anywhere else. I know a lot of people that go there and they were highly recommended
Worst place ever!! Do not go there for even a tire change. They take your money and don't fix your car!! Paid them 4500 and my car is worse than when I brought it to them!! Mechanic not even certified.
One star is to much credit for this place
This auto garage/shop is Extremely unprofessional, from my experience they lie give you the run around and if you come for one thing they wont check that. There is no point to waste time or energy especially money for truly bad experience. If you care about your car i wouldnt recommend this place
