I want to call out Lucas and Jon for the great job they did in diagnosing and fixing the issues with my 96 Impala SS. They take the time to explain everything so you know the direction the repair is going. Lucas did some research on his own to make sure as my car had some difficult repairs that needed to be fixed. Lucas I greatly appreciated with his professional and courteous ways helping me to get into my locked car with my dog INSIDE. After that great experience both Jon and Lucas helped with my other auto’s repairs. I have even referred them to others due to their trustworthiness and no nonsense direction of cost effective repairs. And they have a sense of humor…the job will get done and it will be done right.
Stay away from them, asked for an estimate, had it towed to them the price was almost triple, when i told them no and had it towed to some one else, they painted on my manifold cover cheap and pulled out a fuse from the fuse box so my gas pedal did not work
Brought my Car Show classic to HW auto service to have a transmission seal replaced to fix a small leak. After they reinstalled the transmission, there was a leak worse than before I brought the car in but I still was charged $1489.24. The only option they offered was that I can bring it in again and they would charge me another $1500 to try something else. They even got grease on the trunk deck, fender and door handle. Ended up by the time I got the car home the transmission was gushing fluid and my classic is now unusable. They are very friendly people there, but not fair at all.
I was recommended this place by a good friend when I moved up here. I know a small amount about car maintenance and I do what I can to keep up with it myself. From my first call, I was treated with respect and understanding. I described the issue I was experiencing and I they listened to what I had to say. They called me as soon as they diagnosed the problem and let me know they cost of repairs up front. I have yet to have a poor experience with them, even when I was broke the news about my 2004 being practically toast, I was given all the information and multiple potential plans of action for me to take. I definitely recommend this auto shop, and will continue to take my cars here.
I live in Mundelein and called three shops to service my motorhome. No one could accommodate it. I'm part of a motorhome group on Facebook. I saw that Hawthorne Woods Auto Service is able to work on them. I immediately felt comfortable because the owner also is a camper and has a similar vehicle. I took it over there and the service was stellar. Easy and affordable. Communication was great and I will be back. Definitely found a place I can go back to and recommend.

Hawthorne Woods Auto is the BEST. Jon (the owner) is a reliable, trustworthy, and honest man. Same with co-owner Lukas. They have always been up front about what issues need to be fixed. Any time I ask "what needs to be fixed now, and what can wait/how long can it wait?" they answer honestly. Jon and Luke hire quality mechanics that work along side them, and they don't ask them to do things they wouldn't do themselves. I've been going here since circa 2010 and I don't trust anyone else other than Hawthorne Woods Auto to make sure my car is repaired and maintained!

Great guys over here! This is the only place me and my family trust to take care of our cars and not nickle and dime us! I have been taking my car here since I can remember for whatever it may be and they ahve always taken care of me! Had my car break down on the side of the road and John withers owner went above and beyond and sent me a tow truck to come get it picked up in great timing to! They kept me fully updated every step of the way a d was in and out of there for payment and full around check withing a few hours! Great family owned buisness!!!
These guys are great. I've taken my car their several times and never had an issue. Real down to earth people that take the time to explain whats wrong with your car so that someone like me, who doesn't know much about cars, will understand. Price is never bad, and they get the work done pretty quickly.
Went to another auto repair shop place the day before and they gave me a whole list of “repairs” and I left feeling like I was being lied to. Took it to Hawthorne for a second opinion and I felt like they were honest and straightforward. Jon and the rest of the crew are great people! Friendly, knowledgeable and fair. We have had them work on everything from a 1970 Chevelle SS with an LS5 engine to a 2015 Jaguar so they cover a broad spectrum of work.
Great guys at this shop. Recently came in for a pre purchase inspection of a car I found online. They were very helpful in helping my make a decision. I have also had different repairs done here and they did a great job and even gave me a loaner car while they were working on it. I highly recommend this shop
