I initially came to Gauge Lake Auto for my transmission, but haven't stopped going back since! They are incredibly thorough with their reports, very good at communicating with you, and all around easy to work with. Highly recommend for auto needs!!
Their hours & customer service are incredible. It’s nice to see a shop that has someone pleasant answering the phones & coordinating. That made the process very easy for us to get our car fixed. Plus the girls at the front were super sweet & were able to help us break down the costs on our bill before we paid & left.
I just can’t give a higher rating when we were charged just to jump my car battery to see if it needed a new battery? I think this was the first time in my adult life where someone actually charged me to jump my car. If I would’ve known that I would’ve just had the AAA person jump & replace my battery for me instead of towing to here. My total bill just for a battery replacement was almost $500! I’ve never spent more than $300 on a battery.
And to check the check engine light that came on was even more money. Thankfully I declined because the code cleared itself & never came back on. I could’ve had that checked out for free at auto zone. ?
I’ll definitely be going to another shop unfortunately. This shop was way too expensive for us.
I've been taking my vehicles to Gages Lake Auto for years. Most recently my car's heater/defrost was getting too hot and I periodically smelled burnt plastic while driving. I brought my car to GLA and they fixed the problem at a reasonable price.
I used to really enjoy bringing my car here. I commute from Kenosha to Highland Park, and having a loaner while my car was being serviced was always a huge help. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have been disappointing.
But the most recent appointment may have been too much for me. I requested service Online but never received confirmation of my booking. I also didn’t receive the usual reminder the night before, which meant I had to reach out myself on the day of the appointment for clarification. By the time I did, the appointment had already passed, and no one followed up when I missed it.
My family has trusted this location with our vehicles for several years, so this lack of communication was surprising and frustrating. I hope this is something that can be improved moving forward
I had been working with a specific Mitsubishi dealership to fix my EGR valve for 4 months and getting the run around, Gages Lake had my car 3 days and had it fixed beautifully!
The staff was very knowledgeable and kind and they worked so efficiently to get my car back in perfect shape. I will absolutely return to them for future needs!
My jeep wasn’t shifting into park. Was fearing the worst ofc! They called to tell me “Rocky the squirrel had lodged a big walnut in the gearshift”!!! Hahaha and they even returned said walnut to me as a souvenir when I picked my jeep up! I was overdue for an oil change so they took care of that as well. They even did a thorough inspection of everything and recommended things that need to be addressed in the future, like my front brakes and the brake fluid—-Which I was already aware of. My bill was $181 for everything . I love that they were so fair and honest! And I will return to them to get my front brakes done. Oh and did I mention they gave me a loaner for no charge? I wish I could post a pic of the walnut!!! ?️
Called last Thursday about my genesis G90 wouldn’t start at all they told me to tow it in I spoke with WILLIE he did mention the 155 service fee to check the car that is expected many people complain but understand to check the car anywhere that is reliable and professional their will be a fee then they quote me a price and as work started to get done they ran into a. Lot of issues that most places would charge me over 4k they did the job replaces my starter and battery and other work done to the car on a highly hard car to work on and paid under 1700 for everything including the service check fee !
My car runs amazing ! They were honest yes may be expensive at times but guess what anytime a car breaks down we have cost the point of this review is they treat you like family and are upfront on what they can do I will bring my car back here for service ! It’s about honestly and hard work and honest work that has no price ! Thank you to the service team and to Willie as well as KEN who were very nice polite ! Also got quotes elsewhere and they were by far the best price and best reviews ! I highly recommend GAGES LAKE AUTO !! 5 STARS
If I could give this place a zero I would. THEY ARE SUPER UNPROFESSIONAL! My boyfriend towed his car to this shop. Before he did he called, the lady he spoke to told him that the diagnostic would be free just to look at the car. There was no maintenance done to the car. When we walked in to get his car back. The Manager charged him 155 dollars just for the diagnosis and told us that his co-worker would never say that it’s free but we both heard her say it. I will never be spending another dime at this auto shop and I will be reporting them as well!
Our daughter hit a curb with her front right tire in a slick icy snow on a Thursday night. She had it towed to the dealer she bought her vehicle at. Friday morning I called the dealer and they said they couldn’t even look at it for three weeks.
So here’s the deal - our daughter was supposed to drive Sunday to stay with us in Tennessee for her two week Christmas break and we were watching her dog while she flew to meet friends in another state.
Even if her vehicle could be fixed (bent lower control A-arm) somewhat quickly, the timing for her to still drive to be with us for Christmas was very tight.
She is a teacher and she had to work Friday, so I was calling places from Tennessee. Another shop said they couldn’t get to her vehicle for at least a week. I was thinking she would have to rent a car for two weeks to still make Christmas and her vacation she saved up for all d was looking forward to all year.
The second shop recommended Gages Lake Auto & Light Truck. I called and spoke with Todd. He listened to our trouble. Then he said he’d go tow her vehicle from the dealer to Gages Lake and look at it and call me back.
That same Friday at 2pm, he called and said they got the parts and would have our daughter’s vehicle fixed by closing at 5:30!!
She went with coworkers to an after school get together at a local restaurant and then got a ride to the shop where she paid and picked up her vehicle - all fixed!
It was a Christmas miracle!!! She drove here (534 miles!) on Sunday as previously planned and everything worked out fine.

Her friends and coworkers couldn’t believe it and they all asked for the shop’s name to put in their phones if they ever need service.

Great people and great service! Got an oil change for a reasonable price, and they did a detailed inspection of my vehicle free of charge. I got the sense that they genuinely care about their customers and about doing good, honest work. I definitely plan to continue doing business with them!
Fast, fair, and knowledgeable. My 2000 Toyota Landcruiser Troopy needed service after some years, and even if this is not a car you see often in the US, the team provided excellent diagnosis and support.
We’ve been coming here for years without issue. Until this last visit. Brought my car in for a leak and a noise when turning. When I got my car back, there was a new and much worse noise and the leak remained. Wasn’t even addressed. Brought my car back and was told ‘this was nothing we did….’ and ‘repairs will be 5k+’. Took my car elsewhere. And was told that the transmission (which Gages Lake Auto serviced) had old and water ridden fluid. They officially ruined my car. Absolutely do not recommend taking your car here.
Full disclosure- they did refund me for service I paid for without question, but that doesn’t make the situation okay.
We took our 2008 Infiniti here for some warranty work. Kristen was amazing and very communicative throughout the entire process. We ended up having a small issue after getting the car back however they took it right back, corrected the issue no questions asked and we couldn't be more happy. We will now use them for any of our repair needs!
Gages Lake Auto really surpassed our expectations. We had a terrible experience where a dealership botched an oil change, then said we needed to replace the engine. Jonny found out the problem was actually a damaged filter. Our problems were fixed for a very reasonable price. The service is top notch. We will definitely be using them again.
Took care of me & my vehicle better than anywhere I've been. They went above and beyond to repair my difficult trunk latch problem. Mike & the rest of the guys here have the best personal customer service & do whatever is necessary to provide excellent work for the best price. They were so helpful every step and fair- I'm definitely staying here for my general upkeep!
I just can't say enough good things about Gages Lake Auto and their employees. Everyone is always so pleasant to work with and talk to. They take their time and do things right the first time. If the time estimate looks like it's going to run longer, they let me know as soon as possible. And they are always great about working with me to borrow a loaner vehicle. On a personal level, they have helped me out of a jam and have been so kind a caring with their help. As a bonus they are always great to my son when we come in. He actually looks forward to dropping off and picking up our vehicle. I always recommend them when someone is looking for trustworthy service. Someone I know even comes up from near Chicago to receive service with them.

As a new customer (referred by a friend), I was very impressed. The staff was extremely friendly, they were able to work on my car the morning after my initial phone call, a loaner car was offered, and my car was ready within a few hours after I dropped it off. The price was reasonable, their communication was everything I could hope for and the service was fantastic. I would definitely take my car here again.
We have been using Gage's Lake Auto for over 6 years. They are honest, straightforward and have very competitive prices. Their customer service is fantastic and I feel very confident using them. I never feel they over sell repairs or pressure us into doing unnecessary maintenance. They tell you upfront what all the costs will be and there are no surprises. They stand behind their work. One of our cars is much older and they help us asses what is really necessary to do without over investing the the car. They made a point to get to know us as a family and not just as a customer with cars that need maintenance or repairs. They provide free loaners if needed. We highly recommend them!

I've been using Gages Lake Auto for a few years now. They have always been friendly, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile. The ability to get a loaner car is great, but their service is great and their pricing is reasonable, too. The last time I had work done was because of a failed emissions test. I was going to be out of town while they worked on my car, and the deadline for getting the car re-tested was going to pass while I was gone. Not only were they able to repair the car, but they took it to the testing facility for me.
