Terrible place. They towed my car while I was parked at a shop minutes after I got there. The shop didn't close for another two hours, I wasn't parked in a handicap spot, n I was between the lines. They gave me no real reason as to why my car was towed, especially since I asked why MY car was the only one picked up when there were several other cars there. 300 dollars to get it back and they had it for less than 48hrs. Just frustrating n unnecessary.
I want to share my recent experience. My car, a blue 2010 Subaru Outback, was towed from the road because it broke down and needed a jump start. Sun State Wrecker Services sent a tow truck, but the driver was very rude and didn’t explain my options. I told the driver I didn’t want their service, but he still towed my car.
I asked him to drop my car off at my house or in a parking lot where I could work on it, but the driver refused and instead took my car to a storage facility. Now, they want me to pay almost $400 to get my car back. I’ve already talked to them and offered to pay something for the inconvenience, but they refused.
I'm writing this to warn others not to use their service. I hope the county and the police department take action against Sun State Wrecker Services. They are rude and unprofessional, taking advantage of people they are supposed to help. This is unacceptable. I will pursue all legal options to recover my car, which I consider stolen since it was taken to an unapproved location, disregarding my rights as a customer. This company is dishonest and should be shut down. As a US military protected veteran, I will personally never do business with them, nor should you. Please take action against them. I was getting my car un-towed a few years ago and one of the tow truck drivers pulled a gun on me asking if I knew where his bag of cocaine was. The secretary was nice enough to vouch for me and tell the coked out trucker that I didn't steal his coke. I definitely won't be bringing my car around Ybor again!
They are criminals. Also liars. Towed my car when I was out of town… in my own apartment. When I called they said it was $335 and if I come get it tonight it’d be $35 more for “after hours” and he suggested I get it in the morning. Got it in the morning and it was $435. The people there also act and look like drug addicts. I hope they go jail
I’m not a customer but I was parked trying to plug a nail in my tire and Shaquille stopped out of the kindness of his heart to help me. I’m very grateful for this company’s employees!
Wow….. never experienced such horrible customer service in my life. The man at the window used racist remarks against me and ruined my night. I’ve never seen such behavior in my life.
Absolute parasite of a company. I had a truck and trailer, paid for two parking spots in ybor towards the end of 7th. and they towed me anyways because my trailer took up a third parking space. I even left a note asking them to call if this was an issue and that I was only loading up and wouldn’t be long. The parking lot was completely empty so I wasn’t even bothering any of the businesses. This company is a leech on the city and their people.
Horrible! I was forced to have my truck towed because of an accident. The driver left without asking me if I needed anything out of the truck. I had a sample in there that needed to be taken to the lab. But because he left, they required a payment of 78 dollars if they had to come on Sunday. So since I had to wait till Monday, the sample was ruined!
Then I went in on that Monday and signed all the paperwork so they could release my truck to my bodyshop. But when my body guy went to pick up the truck, they tried to stall and tell them they needed a notarized letter to release it. This after I went in there in person, gave them my registration, my drivers license, and vin number. I ended up having to call them from work to get them to release the truck, only to be put on hold for 15 minutes, then hung up on. Then I again had to call to be answered by someone entirely different, and he played dumb. (There office is small, only 2 or 3 in it) He said they were loading it onto the tow truck now and its being released. Why couldn't they simply have picked up the phone and told me that, instead of hanging up on me?!!
I will never do business with them again, and I suggest if your reading this, you do the same!
Used Juneteenth as a federal holiday and he came to work..so it's an extra $70 but all the other workers working like a regular day..I'm a black woman and work with the government...just amazing the upcharge $297.15 not even 16 hours
The absolute worst!! First no one likes being towed... But these guys went out of their way to make you feel like trash! The emboldened attitude about taking your car and your money was awful! No compassion or empathy for the customer. I hope I NEVER have to deal with them ever again.
The lady in the office was really nice and helpful. A motorcycle that I had sold to a scraper was impounded and a lein against my license. When I was informed of this when trying to register a vehicle in my name I called sunstate up and gave them my information, the lady gave me the total I needed to pay and when I arrived later on she had already had all the paperwork I needed for the DMV ready for me. From working in the towing business for many years and even impounding myself I've heard a ton of people complain and get mad accusing the company of stealing their cars and ripping them off. This situation totally wasn't my fault but it also wasn't their fault, they are a business trying to make money and pay their employees and their bills just like anyone else.
My car was left unlocked and I did not get my driver's license back, potentially hindering my ability to get a rental. It says online they are open 24 hours, I called this evening (Friday) when I realized I did not have my license, and reached someone at a separate live answering service saying they are closed weekends and that there is no way to leave them a message to find my license as soon as they are back. I better have it returned promptly. The second star is only because I believe I was not charged out of pocket for what was apparently an extra day beyond what the insurance covers, and the lot was near my home. Other than that, one star.
They towed my car when I was at work,and in a designated parking spot for my job.when I went to get it I was ignored for about 6 mins,finally was able to sign the papers saying my car was not damaged with out being able to see it.then the impound lot is across the street on a busy one way road I had to cross and then wait for them to open the gate,get in the cat and wait 5 more minutes for the gate to open...had to call and ask them to let me out two minutes later I'm free,shady company looking for free money.
Customer service is terrible on the phone and in person.. the lady was disrespectful and did not.open the gate all the way so I could get my car. After it was towed because she says it was parked over the line..but could not give me pictures to confirm.. pretty sure this is a towing scam I will be reporting this incident to an attorney
I’ll give this place a negative if I could. I’m visiting the area my car got towed had to pay $265. What ever I’ll take accountability. I notice the girl didn’t give me my drivers license back. I return back and they can’t find it so not only and I out $265 but I’m stranded in Tampa bc I can’t catch my flight back home without my drivers license. When I asked the front desk guy to rewind the footage to see where they put my license he threaded to call the cops and say I was trespassing and the other worker starting closing the gates on me. But the place is open 24hours I’m taking them to small claims court if they don’t find my drivers license
THEY Towed my vehicle about 10 months ago,in order to do that,they had to disconnect the transmission linkage cable because it was done at night from my complex.After paying and picking it up,I got stuck a couple of days later.They picked it up and it spent a week at their shop waiting on the part.I picked it up and do to by disability, I DON'T drive much only when need be and got stuck AGAIN because after I had my Mechanic look at it,it turned out that, the cable was GLUED with some type of glue and they used Black electrical tape to cover it. When i CALLED, the guy that towed my vehicle gave me the RUN around.I sent them pictures and in the process of gaining LEGAL help to solve this issue. Will also be contacting Americans with Disabilities for this treatment and any other agency that will listen.
These guys were straight to the point to satisfy all my needs, when everyone else failed. The gentleman that towed my boat trailer was very professional and took care of my boat even though it was scrapping the ground. Worth every penny!
Excelente service from Tom. Was quick answered all my question , uncles car got taken after small accident. contacted the fac at 11pm and he was super nice and worked fast so we can get the car back home. thank you guy's
This is really a tow company that jacks your vehicle and then hold it hostage for money. They disconnected my location services so I couldn’t even find it. No signs of what number to call what a scam business.
Price was as stated to pick up mine vehicle. Proof of ownership was required..title. Wit matching id. No prob. Cash is the preferred payment. No or c.c ... Strictly . C.o.d.
Be careful with these scammers. I was waiting for someone in the parking lot. I never got out of the car when they made me get out of the car. They told me that I had to pay cash to the ATM to get the money. They told me that they were going to wait for me for 15 minutes. 5 minutes and they took the car to force me to pay 200 dollars
WARNING! SHADY BUSINESS BY NIGHT. I was visiting Tampa with my friend and her car got towed without cause. It was 7pm and they told us if we wanted our car back tonight, we had to pay $200 in cash! They insisted on cash. We showed up at the location, which was very sketchy. The entire lot was poorly lit and the man who met us took us inside the lot wanted the cash before we saw our car. We refused and asked to see the car, in which he said only one of us could go with him. There was no way we were splitting up in the area. While my friend dealt with him, I called the police. He took almost 5 minutes to process my friend's ID. Then he had us walk across the street to a second lot, where some guy was waiting in an idling tow truck. The guy leading us spoke two words to the guy in the truck, who never got out, and then showed us our car. We stayed on with the police the whole time, because more than once he tried to seperate us. We were three young girls, and there was no way any of us were following this dude alone, in the dark.
Saw an auction in the paper selling a motorcycle. Went to get the bike and it was a pile of metal. Completely demolished. Couldnt use any of it even for parts. Would've thought they couldve mentioned something when I called in and inquired on it. Drove 30 minutes for nothing
This is the most crooked place I've ever dealt with hands down. They towed my car from my apartment complex. I have the proper sticker for parking. Would not release my car without paying $220. I will be following up with my complex to see about reimbursement. Just an unnecessary inconvenience and headache.
I had scheduled an appointment with them to have a driver arrive at 9:00 AM; the morning of they changed their plans and story to arrive at 11:30 AM, costing us time and money, since our crew is sitting around waiting for them to show up. They were recommended by a different company; since they did not have the capacity to handle this job. What a horrible mistake; avoid these people if possible!
They are very rude they towed my car from my apartment complex and I had just bought it because it didn't have a plate I would never expected this to happend. My mom tried to pick up my car from them the day after they towed it and they won't let her pick it up even with my authorization all they care about it's money.
