Update. Called Adkison Towing. Came out immediately. Did the job for $200 total vs 259 plus a last minute charge of 140. No bs. No upcharges last minute! Took 3 minutes on the phone vs 45 and they delivered.
Horrible company! Spent an hour getting an appointment for the following day set up. paid $259. Then 20 minutes before I am supposed to meet the driver they call back and say it will be an additional $140. I asked how long would it be until the driver could arrive and was told 30-45 minutes. So at least 20 minutes minimum after our scheduled appointment. I decline and ask for a refund and was told that would be fine minus a $60 fee for return. Do not use this company.
Don’t call this company unless you want to waste 3 hours and never have them no show you when they say they’re coming, and have already billed your credit card for the tow.
Low class scammers
If I could get ZERO star to this company I would. They left us waiting for over 2h45 mins when they said they’d be there in 45 minutes !!!! Their location is on the same Blvd they needed to pick us up. But somehow they assigned us to a driver who was doing a job in the north side and was not updated until 2 hours later …
On top of that: they charged us more than what they said on the phone and when we questioned it : they said it was tax. It was more than tax: like 3 times the amount.
Do not use this company if you want a decent experience.
Broke down on San Jose near the Julington Creek bridge and needed a tow. I mistakenly tried these guys because their address made them seem close. In reality, this seems to be a scam and they are not local. i think they try to sign you up, take your CC info and then delay you. Then they ask you if you want to cancel. When you do cancel, they charge you a 50% cancellation fee.
When I got wise to what was happening, I refused to cancel and instead canceled the card I gave them, so I was never charged. They had no local knowledge of Jacksonville and the people I spoke with sounded like they were overseas except for one guy who called from Texas claiming he had just moved to Jax (and also didn't know anything about NE FLorida). I finally got my tow from AAA after wasting hours with these scammers.
If you don't believe me - google their address and see that it's an office condo near Race Track Road. I went by there and there are no trucks and no sign of this company. Also - read their good reviews and see if you an see any local references. I would stay away.
This is not a real towing company. Do not call this number. It is a local number to Jacksonville, but you will be connected to a call center somewhere else (sounded like the Philippines). They will take your payment and other personal info and then a tow truck will never come. You will get calls back telling you it is coming soon. After awhile, they will tell you it's taking a long time and ask you if you want to cancel. I am assuming this is how they make their money since they have a 50% cancelation fee.
None of the people I spoke with had any local knowledge of Jacksonville. At one point. They gave me an ETA of 60 to 75 minutes. I asked - where is that truck coming from (since those of us who live here know it takes 45 minutes to go most places). The person responded "jacksonville", I said where in Jacksonville? It's a big city.... He couldn't tell me and all of a sudden told me he needed to call be back.
The company location in Julington Creek is an office condo. They have other locations listed in Jax as well. There are no tow trucks there or anywhere. Just office condos. Look at their photos and see if you see any FL license plates or locations you recognize. The positive reviews here on Google appear false - written by bots or people who speak English as a second language (read the one star reviews and you will see comments like mine). There is also no company by this name registered in the state of Florida (I checked Sunbiz) and the only two active companies with similar names are in Miami.
Also note that they will most likely respond to this one star review with a canned response telling me they are sorry they didn't live up to my expectations.
I eventually called Adkinson Towing. They do all the towing out at the beach. They are a real tow company in Jax. If you read this far - I would call them now. They actually showed up.
Also - I filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General and will be following up with JSO non emergency. I can't imagine an old person or really anyone broken down somewhere dangerous like the Buckman bridge waiting on these scammers.
I called for a tow at 10:20pm. The lady took all my info and for a 3.5 mile tow it was going to be 197$. There was a 90 minute wait for the truck. An hour later someone called and asked all the details again and was very rude and said someone will call back. At midnight she called me back and said that the tow truck broke down and that all the other trucks are assisting with police efforts. She went on to say I can reschedule for 9am. I am at a loss for words. What if I was stranded and had no way to get anywhere or in a unsafe place, what am I suppose to do? Sleep in my car? What if I had children with me? This place will never get any of my business and I hope this lets everyone know what an unprofessional company they truly are.
I got stuck because my car wouldn’t turn over and a new battery did not work. I called them and they said 45 mins and $170. A few problems :
1) they texted the invoice and it said $201. They said it was tax, but 7% sales tax is $11. Not $30. The invoice has zero in the tax line. So they lied and artificially increased the price. I had already digitally signed the invoice and had been waiting so long, but I don’t know why I’m still using them. I’m still waiting as I write this.
2) 1 hour 20 mins after I signed the invoice, which they said would be 45 minutes, I get a call that said they would be here in “less than an hour”
The worst, least transparent liars. They get one star because they will at least still be picking me up. But I may be amending this review if they decide to not come at all.
JL Towing & Recovery was able to help me out of a tough situation last week. I was stuck in a ditch and got a flat tire from it and they were able to pull me out and tow me to my house. Thank you for your service
