Chris and team are stellar, do not hesitate to bring your business here. No frills on niceties, sure, but they get the job done on time/early with clear communication and transparent pricing. As a woman without much car experience, I am always worried about getting the runaround or being overcharged. I'm so thankful I found this shop and trust them to handle what is needed for a reasonable price. They replaced and programmed my A4's battery, replaced all 4 tires after a flat, swapped out windshield blades, and will certainly be doing whatever else comes up. Added bonus that they are very metro/bus accessible for when you don't have your car. Thank you Chris and team!

I just recently went to Capital Hill Auto for my 2017 Mercedes C300 and I can't say enough positive things about Chris and his team. From the beginning I knew the experience would be very positive. When I had car issues while driving, I had my car towed to the shop I typically use for my standard servicing, after running a diagnostic they told me that I'd have to find another shop to fix my car b/c they were not comfortable doing the work that was required. I reached out to Chris and he was able to have my car towed from the current shop to his within a day and gave me the diagnosis the following day. After taking my numerous questions we settled on the work we'd move forward with and my car was ready pretty soon after. I was surprised by how quickly the turnaround was b/c I had a multitude of issues that needed to be fixed (Engine Misfire & Cooling/Evap systems fault). As far as parking, he goes out of his way to try and park your car in an area that does not require permits - to avoid getting tickets. Thanks for being extremely helpful and transparent! I have found my go to shop for anything cars.
I was recommended Chris by multiple colleagues, and they weren't wrong! I brought a car in for a pre-purchase inspection. Communication throughout the process was easy, very responsive to emails. Very fast turn around for service. Pick up was easy. Price was great compared to a couple other places I had called in the area.
They are an ok garage. I went in for an engine light and 3k later they suggested I replace the engine. I didn't go that route, and the truck and repairs they made seem to be working fine so far. The owner is not personable, but he is professional. Consider this before using them; they have a significant parts mark-up, and parking is tough. They stuck me with a parking ticket after they parked my truck in an area you could not park. When I brought it to their attention, that professional response time was now non-existent. This was just my experience and might not reflect the garage as a whole. I won't use them again, but your experience might be different.
The best mechanic in the District of Columbia. I have been going to Chris at Capitol Hill Auto Service for over 7 years now. He has the best prices, shop hours, and service. He has worked on my 2005 Audi A6, 2010 Honda Civic, and 2015 Acura TLX. 10/10 would recommend to any and everyone looking for a new TRUSTWORTHY mechanic.
Extremely rude customer service made for an unpleasant experience at Capitol Hill Auto Services. I had asked that all services and prices be approved by me before work began and this was not honored. I was charged for work I had not approved the price of and was not satisfied. Was treated very rudely by staff when this was addressed, despite email receipts of my request. I would not recommend this establishment.

I'd find somewhere else for service. I had my car towed there for a fuel pump issue. It was replaced 3 times!! It kept "burning out" because when the pump was replaced my fuel gauge was now reading incorrectly, so I had no idea how much fuel was in my car. I was told there was nothing they could do about the gauge until I had it diagnosed from another mechanic. I sent it for the third time to have the gas gauge fix, just for the same thing to happen again last week. I had it towed to the dealer this time for them to tell me that the gauge read 1/4 tank, but it was completely empty. Although, it is still under warranty with CHA, it's clear they do not know how to repair Infiniti fuel pumps and I know longer trust their work. I used all of my tows for the year and spend extra money Ubering this past weekend, and now lost money fixing a fuel pump that still doesn't work correctly.
I needed to have a tail light installed. I ordered the part online and Cap Hill Auto Service installed the part for me for no charge. They were courteous and efficient. I definitely will go back to them for an oil change or other car repairs.
First rate. None better, whether Porsche, Triumph, Cadillac, Volvo, Chevy or anything else. Late model or classic. Banger or speedster. I’ve driven and needed service for all of these over 50 years, and Capitol Hill is the best.
Service was, as it always should is, fast, efficient, and reliable. I have found through experience that the prices are fair and no work or parts will be suggested that are not warranted. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Prompt and professional service. I highly recommend this shop. Chris and his team were great. My only complaint would be there is no on-site parking but I was able to park on the street just a few steps away from the shop.

BE AWARE! Your car will be parked on the DC streets with all of the RISKS that come with that. On both of my last two visits (I've been there 3 or 4 times overall) my car had body damage when I picked it up. The first time, it was substantial damage that cost me hundreds of dollars in insurance deductible and rental car costs after it was hit while parked. Not their fault per se, but a direct result of no on-site parking. The second time was only cosmetic damage, but still noticeable. This one was likely their fault; it was obvious that they had bumped the car behind when parallel parking. While they were apologetic, no compensation was offered. They did good work - no complaints there- but the parking situation is a considerable risk and the reason I wouldn't recommend them.
Great experience. Service was excellent and they're super responsive via email. Needed to get a tire replaced and Chris and the other gentleman (who also has an M3P--didn't catch his name, unfortunately) were awesome. Would not hesitate to take my car here again. 10/10--highly recommend! Thanks!
This shop was recommended to me by several people at work. I recently picked up a very old used car for my nephew and Capitol Hill Auto Service did a great job investigating the most significant issues before a long drive. I initially thought I needed one repair that they quickly alerted me I didn’t need. They then diagnosed the most significant issues and provided reasonable pricing for that work. The shop prefers email communication - don’t call - and cash/venmo/zelle will lower your cost by 4% as compared to using a credit card.
I’ve consistently had quality service. I’ve been a customer for over 15 years. Capitol Hill Auto has provided routine maintenance and repairs for three different types of cars, both foreign and domestic. The prices are very reasonable.
It is a small shop with a dedicated client base. As such, they are usually busy. This isn’t a spot for one hour oil changes. If you’re able to give them 24 hours to complete their work, you won’t be disappointed.
What I thought was a minor issue with my car radio turned into a 3-week ordeal where it turned from me-versus-car to me and the mechanics at Capitol Hill Auto versus GM.
Chris and Ryan were honest and transparent throughout the whole process. They worked quickly and they were sensitive to my schedule, working to accommodate it the best they could. They were casual and friendly but very knowledgeable. I'm definitely going to then for my next car issue.
Had a great experience at Capitol Hill Auto service. Contacted them and within an hour had a response and was told I could bring my car in. My car was fixed and ready to go within days. The prices are reasonable and felt as if they truly cared.
DECEITFUL. I have taken my car here for the 5 years I've lived in DC, and Chris (the owner) was always responsive to my appointment requests. Last week, I brought my car in for an odd clanking sound I heard. I was told there was a problem with my emergency brake, but they couldn't fix it now, so come back next week. They also mentioned that there are safety problems with my rear brakes and front struts - my estimate was $2310 (oof!). I was surprised at the price and concerned about safety for this brand new issue, so I brought it to another, new mechanic for a second opinion. He spent an hour with my car and called me to let me know that my clanking sound was fixed (due to a simple, small bar rattling around in the wheel of the emergency brake, not the brake itself) and that my brakes and struts were in great shape. He took photos so I could verify everything he said. He also mentioned that my estimate should have been more like $700 for the services I was quoted, but that there was no need to pay that because the service wasn't needed at all. I don't know if the man I got an estimate from is a new employee here (it was not Chris), but it's shameful that this shop would do this to anyone - let alone a loyal customer. I will never visit again. STAY AWAY.
After seeing an overwhelming amount of positive review for them on Yelp I decided to bring my '13 Lexus GS here to have my sway bar end links and front axle replaced. After having them done, there was a momentary vibration coming at low speeds. Chris and Ryan kept me in the loop about what the issues could be and in the end were able to determine that it was low transmission fluid and possibly an additive or incorrect fluid used when I had done a transmission drain and fill at another mechanic earlier in the month. I wouldn't recommend calling their number since I was never able to get through to them. Why? Because when I went there I saw how busy they are which is a great sign. Chris is always in front of the computer replying to emails, answering customers' questions. If not, he's talking to customers who are coming to pick up or drop off their car. I was praising their work to my friend yesterday after getting the car back and coincidentally he had gone to them just a little while before I did to get his tires mounted and also had great things to say about Chris and his team.
Capitol Hill Auto Services did a fantastic job getting my 8 year old, 100K mile car feeling like new again. I love my car even more now and will only trust Chris and Ryan to work on her from now on. You should too.
I think this is my 4th time here and my 3rd vehicle since moving to DC in 2013. Each time Chris and his team has been phenomenal. I'm a car guy and understand car talk, but the team takes the time to explain at any level. They almost always have a line and somehow manage that constant traffic efficiently so it doesn't feel like you're waiting long. (A line like this at the dealership would be hours) Pricing is competitive, and fair for the quality of work. You don't end up like some other shops and get your car back from a tire change with the locking lugs sitting in the cupholder. Everything is checked and double-checked for computer codes etc.
If I had any complaints it would be that they're closed on weekends, but I know they need that time off.
After a couple of false starts with other shops in the area I've found my home shop as long as I'm in DC.
I took my 03 Subaru Forester to Capitol Hill Auto Service a few times, for a reappearing check engine light and when my alternator gave up the ghost. The staff were friendly, helpful, and straightforward about what repairs were needed vs. what could wait. The prices were great, and the service was always quick. I appreciated their hours, which let me drop off my car before work instead of taking time off. I recommend them to all my friends needing repairs in DC.
Someone had side-swiped our car overnight and needed body work and a mirror fixed. We have used Capitol Hill Auto Service before for oil changes and tire rotations but did not know they did minor body work as well. They ordered the parts after assessing it and as soon as the parts came in they had it done in just 2 days. I highly recommended the CHAS team.
I am so impressed with the service here! I had to get my car towed after hours and leave it in front of their building. They took care of the issues first thing the next day. Chris even brought to my attention that the $1,300 service that I had just gotten done at another garage should have been under warranty (which the other garage had never mentioned of course) and he was right! I was able to get a reimbursement from the manufacturer, so he seriously saved me money! Thank you so much!! Honest, and professional, I don't ever want to take my car anywhere else!
