I've been bringing my vehicles here for several years, and I can't say enough good things about this amazing small business. Whether it’s an oil change, new tires, or more serious repairs, they always get my car in ASAP and back on the road in perfect shape. Their customer service is top-notch—every visit feels like I’m stopping by family. That small-town charm is real here, and it's why I keep coming back. Honest, reliable, and truly caring—Fitzgerald Automotive is my go-to for everything car-related!

Fitzgerald’s Automotive is an outstanding place to have your car repaired. Whether it’s a major repair or a minor fix, you can feel confident that their experienced team will get the job done right. They communicate clearly, respect your time, and make customer service a priority. A great shop for all of your automotive needs!

Fitzgerald's is the only shop I will bring my vehicles to. I know with 100% confidence my issue will be diagnosed and/or repaired the right way on the first visit.

Wouldn’t trust these guys with an air filter change after giving them $1612.50 to do a flex pipe, CV Axle & full inspection on a family members vehicle (2012 Toyota Avalon) resulting in bringing car back NEXT DAY. That cost included a $110 Oxygen Sensor that was replaced even though we never had a light on dash. These guys forgot to re-tighten a bolt to a coil pack when doing inspection on my spark plugs that made the car shut off on the drive home after receiving the car 3 days prior from Fitzgerald. After that, would you trust them with something even as simple as an oil change (that supplies lubrication to an engine that can cost 6-8k to replace if not done right)? Fitzgerald needs to think about retirement after giving us attitude & forgetting to double check things are tightened on a CUSTOMERS vehicle after being in business for a surprising 25 years. The young lady working behind the desk was very professional & polite. I hope you find somebody else to work for that will appreciate you and not embarrass you so bad that you have to call the customer same day about your boss’s (Fitzgerald) attitude. Might be time to hand in the ratchet.

To begin, please refer to the businesses' motto of Passion, Quality, Performance. This will be relevant in a moment. Called Fitzgerald's for an assessment on a loud noise from my 2012 Avalon; spoke with the owner who was very polite and gave an estimate. They took the appointment on a Friday, assessed that the flex pipe was causing the engine noise and also recommended the CV axle get replaced (was ripped). Estimate came to $1600. Gave them the go-ahead to do the fix, they held it over the weekend and I got the car back Monday sounding like new. Thanked them multiple times explaining how excited I was to have her back sounding healthy. Drove her home on back roads and highway to make sure no issues. Tuesday morning commuting to work, start hearing a repetitive metallic clanging from front of car. Called them to figure out the issue and discuss tow costs. Fitzgerald explained he "wouldn't argue over $50". Really didn't appreciate that considering I was losing more than that every hour I had to be away form work on an issue caused by his shop. Came back after they called to an empty shop; Fitzgerald finally came out and didn't tell me the problem until after I asked multiple times. Finally, he says he bent my dust shield behind the front right wheel when checking the suspension during the initial inspection. This would have been ok with me (mistakes happen and my car ultimately wasn't bricked) had the next part not happened. Fitzgerald then goes on a rant at me about just how my car is rusted out (yes, it's a 10+ yo car in New England, I wouldn't think this was shocking to find....), how much time he spent on it, and (this was my favorite part) that he deserved a 'thank you' for all the work put into it. I explained that I had already 'thanked' him by paying the cost for work done as well as giving several verbal thank you's when I picked up the car originally -- but that was really neither here nor there. We really needed to know if he had a recommendation for how to prevent this from happening again (how did I know if I was driving to work tomorrow this same problem wasn't going to happen again). I further explained that I did not anticipate these kinds of issue for $1600 worth of work. Here's where they lost my business going forward: This grown adult (owner of a 25+ year business whose motto "Passion, Quality, Performance" really needed some re-work) then stomps his feet and tells me "let's get this $20 tow payment squared away". The tow totaled $110; this was with my insurance covering half of the drive. I told him not to bother, I'd rather eat the cost than do any further business with him. I have to add here that the front desk Manager was kind enough to give a courtesy call later in the day to apologize for the treatment I received and to check on me. It was very kind of you, thank you for doing that and I really hope you get treated well there. Unfortunately, the issues don't end there. Driving home the next day, both the check engine and traction control lights go solid red and stay on. Family member that knows cars goes out to check on it and the engine turns on for 1-2 seconds and immediately shuts off. After he assessed, the issue was the bolt for the coil pack to one of the spark plugs WAS NOT EVEN BOLTED ON. I honestly don't know how people working on cars for this long make mistakes like this. I am never coming back nor recommending this place to anyone. Real shame since the flex pipe fix was solid.

They are a fantastic shop that does excellent work. Hard to find skilled craftsman with their skillsets anymore. They've done custom exhaust work on my old hot rod truck and were even able to mount & balancing wide radial tires that other shops couldn't.

These guys are one of the best and very thorough at their job. I came there with a huge oil leak issue. They handle business and got to the point; I would highly recommend this amazing shop and their crew. I don’t have a single issue anymore with my jeep !!!!!!!!!!! if I can add more stars to this review I would. I’m so grateful!

Darrel is a wealth of knowledge. He took all the time I needed to explain the building process and works well with my Weber stack vendor Jim Inglese. Can't wait to receive my new 347 stoker.

Haven't done any actual business with them yet however..I went to them on an emergency...for a sunroof on my Lexus Rx330 that slid back for some odd reason and on a day set for rain smh. They covered it up nicely with plastic which so far is doing the job with the rain as all is still dry in the inside and thankful that with the snow n icey weather cmg in this Friday...my car should still be protected on the inside...Due to get it done next Wed and from what they hv done already..I know this automotive shop wl definitely get the job done right! Thanks agn guys!! and I see why this shop stays so busy...they're personable established and very professional!

Horrible business. They'll tell you one thing on the phone, then when you show up (after waiting 5 minutes for them to finish whatever it is they are doing on the computer) they'll tell you another. SO desperate for nice reviews they'll even give you money off on your purchase if you write one. 10/10 would not recommend, unless you like wasting your time and money.

The biggest fear for car guy is to find a honest and competent mechanic when the job is too big for him. And clearly I found myself in that position, and when I was there every shop around closed their doors to me and my classic car. "too old" they said, "we're too busy" or "we don't know how to work on that car". Some folks in the hobby said "contact Roy at Fitzgerald, he'll help you out". And I believe to be blessed that I did. He called me 2 hours after the car was towed there dead "your car is ready". If you have car trouble call Roy, he's one of the few mechanics left with a passion for cars. Especially classic vehicles, he loves them 😉

Needed a new transmission in my car and the price was much lower than I expected. I’ve brought my car here for about 2 years now and they always do a great job. The girl at the front desk is very nice and helpful. Love this place would not trust anyone else with my car more than Fitzgerald’s.

Tired of paying ridiculous prices at dealerships??? Roy is very reasonable and they do a great job. Highly recommend getting your car repaired here. Old style shop in my opinion where they do actually care about you!

When I went, the owner was helpful and did the hub on my car but the issue was never resolved and I had to go back a second time. He was very condesnding and rude towards me, and lucky he did fix it without additional charge, but extremely rude the second time around and made it seem like I didn't know what I was talking about, and I know I am a girl, but I have done many parts on my car and know a decent amount. I was also right about the part not being fixed. I would not recommend to anyone. Gabes down the road though is great, I have gone many times, so so helpful and really great people. Very friendly Also Roy not only a professional but as a GROWN MAN i would NEVER talk down to a girl or anyone for that matter, especially running my father's buisness.

Way too expensive got charged $200 for oil change and snow tire change... never going here again. Went to the place near marshalls in Ansonia and they are much quicker and charged me $30 and checked my tires for free at their other place Isacc's Tires. Totally recommend them instead! (He commented below that I haven't gone but my google name is not my name on my card). Take my word!

This shop is great. Heard about it from a friend who had gotten plenty of work done there and i decided to try them out. Very Professional and Knowledgeable made me feel comfortable not going to a dealer. I have had my car in multiple times for various things from Exhaust work to having my Clutch changed. Work was always performed well and on time. I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for a local place to get work done for sure!

I was looking on Craigslist for a gas-efficient used car, and saw a 2009 Nissan Versa that looked about right. I called the number, and spoke with Roy at Fitzgerald Automotive. We talked a bit and then I took a ride over to see the Versa. The first impression of Fitzgerald Automotive was very positive...very neat and organized. Roy came out to say hi and immediately handed me the keys to the Versa and told me to take it for a ride...by myself. I was a bit taken aback, because I'd been visiting other dealers, and they were not so trusting. I took the Versa for a ride, and was happy with it. Back at Fitzgerald I talked it over with Roy, and he was very forthcoming about the pros and cons of the car, and showed me the Carfax. I explained that I needed a car right away because I was leaving for a drive to Myrtle Beach in a few days, and my current car wouldn't make it. He assured me that the car was thoroughly checked and ready to go. We made an agreement. He readied all the paperwork for me to take to DMV (when I got there they had not a single complaint about the paperwork...not true for others waiting there). Roy made sure that the one part the car needed (to operate the hatchback) was installed by the pick up time. He even said I could leave my current car at Fitzgerald until the charity picked it up (this turned out to be unnecessary). Well, I bought the car, drove it to Myrtle Beach without a hitch. My car-savvy brother-in-law thoroughly checked it out down there, and told me he thought I had gotten a good deal. I certainly feel I got a fair deal, and a car I expect to be driving for years to come. My thanks to Roy for being so helpful, fair, and respectful to me (absolutely no mansplaining!) Roy, you have struck a blow to uphold the reputation of used car dealers everywhere. PS. I never write reviews. However, this situation absolutely called for one.

My 2011 Subaru Forester had 【Check Engine】on while driving, and a red 【Security】warning flashes every 3 seconds while engine is shutting off. Checky the user manual, it says emissions system has problem and need to send to dealer. I went to Fitzgerald Automotive, and Roy diagnosed with a pipe has leak air. He ordered the part which takes overnight to get it. The midday today my case was fixed. It was a struggle to get it done elsewhere during the Labor day long week end. I am happy with my car fixed by Roy. I will use his garage for future services. 😀

I've been going to these guys almost exclusively for years and am very pleased with their work and prices. Their estimates are almost always dead on, and their work morals are top-notch. Roy is a great guy and I'm a huge fan of the work they do there. I can't recommend them enough.
