This is for the RWC location - Justin, Cynthia and team are really striving to make your experience with them the best possible. It is very clear there is a strong mission and goal with the organization. I took my car in for a 100k mileage maintenance and they were communicative and honest about the service. The tech accidentally broke something during the service, they communicated it to me and fixed it. It did prolong my service which I was not happy about (it was already 3 days in and it was already cutting close to the time I needed my car for an upcoming long road trip), but Justin and the team did everything to make it better for me. While we are all human and make mistakes, it is about how they resolve it after that wins me over. Thank you Justin, Cynthia and team!

My neighbor, a Corvette owner and Corvette club member, recommended A+ and I'm glad he did. Matt, Justin and everyone else at A+ were knowledge, helpful and went out of their way to make my experience a positive one. They performed excellent work on my Focus ST and I will definitely return to A+ for any services I need down the road.

I had a minor issue with my truck. One call to Justin Mills in Redwood City and the next thing I know, it's all fixed. They are knowledgeable, honest and all of the employees are very manerly. Just the best!

From the moment I called this place, I knew they'd be good. I initially brought my car to A+ because another nearby autoshop was overcharging me by ALOT. So I came into A+ and they ended up finding things wrong with my car that the previous autoshop either caused or missed during several inspections of my car. Also, the environment of A+ is so welcoming and friendly. You feel very valued as a customer. I LOVE their customer portal that allows you to approve each job, has pictures after they work on it, and has descriptions of everything that they are working on and also tells you what you'll need done in the future. This is my new autoshop for everything. They have gained a loyal customer and I will tell all my friends about it. Couldnt have had a better experience.

We would never go anywhere else! When you start going to A1 Auto, it is like joining a family! They are open and honest with everything, and there is absolutely no pressure or up selling. They let you know everything wrong, and then they tell you what needs to be done immediately, and the things that don't require immediate repairs. Can't recommend them highly enough

I've only ever taken my minivan for service at the dealer, and was nervous about taking it anywhere else. After received an eye-popping quote for my first major service, I started looking elsewhere. A co-worker recommended this place. I made an appointment online and was greeted by Cynthia the morning of. She was friendly and walked me through the process. I let her know I was on a time crunch and needed my car done same-day. I received an estimate by noon, and a call from the service advisor, Justin, walking me through all of the areas of concern, ranked by emergency repairs needed now, nice-to-haves, and areas to keep an eye on. A full report was sent to me electronically before approving service. I declined some of the services and at no point did I feel I was being upsold. It's safe to say I've found my shop for all my minivan's future needs. Thank you Cynthia and Justin!

I have taken my cars to both the location in San Carlos and now the location in Redwood City. I love their attention to detail and communication, including photos of what needs to be worked on. They are very patient explaining things to the non-mechanical mind. Their team does excellent quality, reliable work. That’s why I’ve been with them for almost 20 years.

Just a big shout out to the wonderful folks at A+. I've been a customer for more than 30 years, and they always deliver. This last service was done by Art, and everything went swimmingly, they did everything I asked for quickly and well done. I dropped my car off in the morning, they gave me a ride to my office and they brought my car back in the afternoon. Justin the service manager always goes above and beyond. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would.

Another fantastic experience at A+ with Justin. My son was driving to LA and we wanted to make sure our older SIenna van was ready to roll. Justin was able to get the an in, give me a good price in new tires, and let me know what were top priorities and what could wait until after the roadtrip. Always excellent communication - always trust and honesty - always efficient - so grateful to feel so sure of quality and fairness each time I visit, and with multiple cars in the family, I visit often!

I've been in to A+ Auto Repair in RWC twice now - once for a general checkup and once for an emergency tire repair - and both experiences have been amazing. Moss, Justin and Brian are all incredibly friendly, prompt, and professional. They clearly walked me through every service they suggested, including clarifying what services were essential vs what would be good to consider longer-term and why. Prices are clear and up-front, and their techs take detailed photos of every aspect of the car so you can understand exactly what they are seeing. They also kept me updated frequently for both visits so that I could plan my timing. This is the best car service experience I have ever had - I feel confident in their ability to help me figure out what is best for me and my car!

A+ Japanese Auto Repair has been my go-to car repair and auto maintenance company for over 20 years (when Eric and Adam’s parents owned it). When their sons took over the business, they took it to another level and made it their own. Throughout the years, and the several vehicles I have owned (some of them “aging beauties” as I like to call them), I was consistently treated to a high level of service.
There was a time when my Honda Prelude at 200K miles, actually conked out in SF after a routine service, and I was shocked. Eric was not only apologetic but very concerned, and asked if he could have it over the weekend. He drove it to witness for himself how the car was behaving, and as a result, correctly diagnosed the problem. The next week, my “aging beauty” was back to running like a gem and it was in such superb condition that I was able to gift it later to a friend who had no vehicle. (I bought my brother’s aging Prius then and A+ cared for that vehicle, too. It lasted many years and drove wonderfully—until high speeds on slick lanes in the early morning enroute to the Golden Gate Bridge resulted in a different outcome.)
Now I entrust my two automobiles to A+. Over these many years, I have taken notice that many others have discovered the quality and high standards that Eric and the A+ staff adhere to in keeping their clients’ autos running safely. I began to feel a bit anxious about how they could continue to accommodate us all at their home base on Industrial Road in San Carlos.
I need not have been concerned. Their second location on Whipple in Redwood City has ample parking and a calm office atmosphere, helmed by the incredible Justin Mills (we have established a great rapport over these many years) and his top-notch team members, Cynthia and Moss. Together, they are very much in sync and take care of business in a friendly, welcoming, and supportive manner, relaxed-yet-efficient. I actually enjoy the different ambiance. It feels quieter. Moreover, I can walk from San Carlos, get needed exercise, and drive home, guilt-free, because I managed to get in some steps!Oct 21, 2025 -

I had such a great experience here. Justin and Brian went above and beyond to help me through my car issues and they made the entire process stress free and seamless! I cannot comment on the competitiveness of pricing because I don't have comps, but I can say that the folks working the front desk here are perhaps some of the most cheerful and upbeat dudes I have ever met (looking at you, Justin!). They were straightforward on what services were necessary and did not give me any grief for refusing the moderate (yellow) items on their comprehensive inspection (yes, I know my car needs a car wash haha). They charged around $231 for the inspection, oil change, and tire rotation.

I am an old customer at the original A+ Japanese Auto Repair Service in San Carlos. This is my first service at their new shop A+ Auto Repair of Redwood City (for 2014 Subaru Forester 87k miles maintenance and oil change). I always appreciate Justin's and his service advisors' (past and present) detailed explanations of vehicle services needed and giving good repair options, including their honest opinions and recommendations. Their preliminary service check up report app is very helpful, detailed with pictures as needed, and easy to understand.
Quality, value and peace of mind (for my family's vehicle use) aspects of auto repair service at reasonable price, are what I look for, and A+ Japanese and Auto Repair family and crew meets my auto maintenance standards. Special thanks to Brian Reidy at the RWC shop and Moss Coln at the San Carlos shop for helping me out and making my experience at A+ Japanese Auto Repair positive and outstanding.
Brian listened to my story how I a DIY mechanic for the last 50 years, messed up when out of habit I stepped on the brake pedal (to unlock the steering wheel to slightly turn the front hub) expanding the right front brake caliper piston while the brake pads were removed, causing the ABS system to malfunction and turn on all the instrument cluster ABS BRAKE VDC warning lights after the piston was compressed back in on my 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid.
My simple OBDII scan tool wasn’t sophisticated enough to read and clear the ABS trouble codes and recalibrate the ABS brake module. I needed to find a repair shop that l was comfortable with and that I hoped wouldn’t take advantage of me. Before I changed my career to Park Maintenance I worked for 10 years back in the 80’s and 90’s as the service writer in a very well respected popular German car repair shop in Palo Alto.
Since then l have maintained all my vehicles myself so finding a shop l could trust was very personal for me. Back in the day when cars were simpler with less electronics and didn’t require computerized testing equipment many local repair shops didn’t care for the DIY car mechanic.
Not so with A+ Brian and Moss understood me and my problem, they both respected me and very quickly helped me by assigning one of A+ detailed qualified technician to visually inspect my cars brakes and scan and reset the electronic ABS system.
This is all l needed and all they did and it did the trick making me very happy and relieved.
In less than 24 hours I was back on the road.

I worked most closely with Albert and Elaine, both of whom demonstrated genuine care, honesty, and reliability right off the bat. I want to take a moment to share my heartfelt appreciation for Justin and his incredible team at A+ Auto Repair of Redwood City. From start to finish, the service I received was nothing short of outstanding!
It all began when I called A+ with concerns about my suddenly soft brakes while driving. Even though they were wrapping up for the day, Justin took the time to listen to my worries and promptly inspected my vehicle. When it became clear that my brakes needed some attention, he went above and beyond by arranging alternative transportation for me while his team got to work.
I was thoroughly impressed by the level of detail they provided regarding the repairs. The diagnostics were meticulous, and the professionalism and care shown by the entire staff made a world of difference. While dealing with car troubles is never a joy, Justin and his team turned an otherwise stressful situation into a remarkably positive experience.

Un. Real. Service! A+ is right! They just opened up this location last year and brought their A TEAM! Moss, Justin, and the whole team do NOT mess around when it comes to high quality, quick, and friendly service.
Do you think I know a DARN thing about cars? NOPE! Did A+ Auto take advantage of me? Probably not, but even if they did I wouldn't care because the quality of service was absolutely worth it!
