I brought my Volvo into Ray’s last week to get some suspension work done and they did a terrific job. Reasonable prices and high-quality work, I would recommend them to anyone.
I went to get an alignment done knowing I had suspension issues and the mechanic Jose ran a quick diagnostic when I explained what the car does he was transparent and knew exactly what the issue was with my truck went and got the parts I thought I was gonna need to change a lot of suspension parts . Went and got the parts (trailing arm ) and fixed my issues now I’m back on the streets with working truck. Very knowledgeable and transparent they got another happy customer . Thank you I would highly recommend this auto shop and very trust worthy.
Stopped by on the way home because I kept getting a “low pressure” warning on one tire. Figured by the third time after filling it with air, I better get it looked at. The guys saw me right away, found a couple of nails and fixed it immediately and sent me on my way. Great experience.
Ray’s Auto Repair and Tires performed an incredible and affordable Oil Change and Lube Service for me, including an overview inspection of the vehicle so that plans can be made to deal with any important repairs necessary to keep the vehicle safe on the road. This place is a SCAM. Very dishonest. They seize every opportunity to take advantage of you. If you don't look like you know cars, DON'T GO THERE. If you are communicating over the phone about additional services, MAKE SURE YOU TALK ABOUT PRICE.
I originally brought in my car for an oil change. I asked for a quote and it was reasonable. Few hours later they called to say the brake and filter also need to be changed, and I agreed.
We didn’t talk about price because I didn’t feel the need to, these are regular services. Here comes the surprise - The bill was almost $1500 when I pick up. I’ve owned my car for many years and it should be $500 at most.
The owner keeps claiming that this is a reasonable price and his tone became aggressive. He's a big guy. I'm a small woman. It was dark, we were the only ones in the shop. I felt threatened and had to pay and leave.
This is a very, very disgusting experience. This shop doesn’t deserve any trust.
Great customer service.. Ali is a very honest, trustworthy and knowledgeable mechanic.. He treats my car like it's his and takes pride in that.. Any issues with my breathalyzer he takes care of.. Great guy and great service.. Take your car to auto repair & tires and you won't be disappointed..
After two years of using Ali's shop for servicing my car, I noticed a rumbling sound in the wheels, and dropped it off for a full diagnostic. He called me, said a bunch of stuff needed to be replaced, the first item I expected, and the rest I trusted his expertise. He said a number at the end, "it's gonna be $1300". I said ok.
I came back after two days, the bill was $4700. He never gave me that number over the phone, or emailed me the quote. He misquoted me on purpose. I was in a hurry to leave for work (he knows I'm always in a hurry and don't have time), so after 20 minutes of trying to talk sense into him that I never agreed to this price, and him stone-cold facing me saying that's what the price is, I bent and coughed the money. He was super rude about it, blaming me for thinking that all those items would only cost $1300, calling me crazy. I ended up in tears because I simply didn't have the money and would never agree to have all those items replaced if I knew the price. Absolutely terrible experience and unfair tactics to squeeze money out of customers, especially since he knows I have zero knowledge about auto repair.
Rays is a best kept secret, top notch service.
The front desk manager is a top notch guy who gets the job done and has a great personality.

The first service I've done at Ray's happened to be a costly one (costly in general) you probably do once while you own a car, and I'm not familiar with the mechanics of the car, so it's hard for me to say if Ray's offered the best deal. Having that said, it was very easy to make an appointment, they ordered the parts I needed that day, so I was able to bring my car just a few hours later, which I appreciated. Everyone at the shop was very friendly, and I felt valued as a customer. They also provided me quotes for other things I should probably fix in the near feature, and that was useful.
Car started having electrical problems 2 days after they performed the servicing. After bringing the car back, they charged again for diagnostics and did not found anything. Issue was still happening. So double charged and introduced a problem and failed to diagnose it.
Never going back again, bad experience.
Derek was very friendly, helping me understand the causes behind some of the symptoms I was experiencing with my car, and proposing solutions, being transparent throughout the whole process. Leaving the shop, the car feels almost completely new, and is in a much better state.
I got the following done:
oil change
tire rotation
wheel alignment
replaced tie rod ends
replaced front sway bar end links
And I'm very happy with the results. Highly recommend this place.

Unlike all other tire shops, they also do wheel alignment, so it is one stop shop for all my needs. Will definitely always come to Ray’s shop.
A friend recommended this shop and so when my check engine light came on I went here. Ali said they would charge a diagnostic and waive if you do work at this shop. He told me confidently he knew the issue and I was happy to let him fix it. About 900 dollars spent. On the drive home later that day check engine light pops back on with the same initial code. I think maybe it’s an error, take it back to the shop. He clears the code. A couple days later the code pops back on. I take it back expecting him to help since he was confident in the diagnostic and there’s a “warranty”. He says it’s a new issue with engine sludge. But, sludge would ruin the new part he replaced and should be diagnosed before replacing. He ignores these statements and says he would charge me more to correct. Likely wasted 900 dollars. My dad who tried to help me tells him don’t do any more work since he wants to keep charging me despite the initial issues still ongoing. He says he did “work” without consent (illegal). At the end he wishes bad karma upon me. Potentially he has created new issues. Save yourself and try some other mechanics on your journey. There are other reviews similar to this one. Be cautious. I really tried to give him a chance. Hoping to save you stress
My experience was bad and here are the details:
- At the beginning, I felt something was wrong because they were very reluctant to explain what’s wrong with my car and simply try to only talk about what needs to be fixed or replaced. They were not pushy though, I give them that.
- True, they will give an estimate before they do anything. Since I’m not a mechanic, I trust that the pricing will be fair regarding labor and parts. Using the invoice to compare the parts prices against what’s available online, I was appalled! They marked up everything to almost double. A simple example to give you a taste, using the part numbers they provided, an air filter that costs $18 was priced to me as $36! The same pattern applies to the rest of the replaced parts.
- The least of their problems is that they are not on time.
Long story short, I’m not a mechanic and can’t tell whether my car needed all the repairs they recommended. But hell I can say that their parts pricing was dishonest and they overcharged me. Therefore, they are not trustworthy, and I will not go back for another repair again.
Update: The below repair shop reply brazenly admits guilt of overcharging! The worst service ever in bay area!
Some time in June 2024 I went there to fix my car tire leak. The boss was in the office never came outside. The worker checked it reported to boss there are 4 nails and showed me and said one nail repair costs $30 and each additional costs $10, total 60 but a used tire is $65. I chose to go with used one. After pick up and drive I hear a helicopter like sound when I speed up. I visited there next day and requested to replace to original one with patching 4 nails. The boss said he can't do anything without me paying additional. The boss said he is sure it is caused by something else, like wheel problem and I could be lying about something happened aftere the leak started and said go away and never come to my shop.
I couldn't do anything and came back with bringing the original tire back. I visited other tire shop explained the situation. They say (1) the used tire has unevenly weared bump that cause the helicopter sound, (2) there are 4 nails but 3 of them are not punched through so only one has to be patched. So, I pay $35 to patch one and replace to original tire. The used one was throwed away. The strange sound is gone. Everything is fine.
I called this shop and explained it, in the half way of my talk the boss said "good luck to you, don't come to my shop" and he hang up.
Terrible service. I DO NOT recommend this auto shop. I'm not sure if Ali is the owner, but they are NOT HONEST at all.
I initially took my car there because the engine light is on, first of all, my car is fairly new and has less than 15,000 milages. If they are honest, he could just tell me to take my car to the dealership because my car is still under warranty.
They kept my car for 3 days and ended up with charged me $850 for diagnosis and "calibration" without giving an estimate before they do the work. After less than a week, the engine light is on AGAIN, so I took the car back to the shop and told them they did not fix it.
They said they would have to run the diagnosis AGAIN, and if it was not the same problem they will fix it for free. I kept my car there over the weekend and the next Monday I went to the shop directly and ask why they haven't returned my call. They explained to me there is a part broken and needs to be replaced, they are contracting the dealership to get the part estimation and it will take a few more days.
At this point I don't trust them anymore, I took my car away and brought my car to the dealership directly and showed them the service document provided by Ray's auto shop, the dealership's technician looked at the document and told me, there is NOTHING to "calibrate" for this car, and my car is still under warranty so repair is all free, if they are honest they should have told me at the first place.
In short, terrible experience. They charged me $850 and fixed nothing.
Taken my silverado for several times now for a quick oul change. They just make the process nice and easy, their completion time has been on point. Looking forward doing business for additional work needed in the near future
I've brought my car here a couple times and have always had honest service. Been to other repair shops that always add on random services and charge a lot for basic filter changes, but Rays has always been really honest which I value a lot. and they do a great job!
Ali, the owner, is a great guy. The AC compressor on our Honda Pilot had failed, and we were coming up from SB. They were able to take us on quick notice, and swap out our compressor for a new one same day. Ali was upfront and honest about their pricing and estimate, and did a great job. $150/hour seems to be the going rate in the area. He even replaced a leaking cable for us at no extra charge. Great customer service, would absolutely come again and recommend Ray’s to anyone else.
This shop has been an absolute lifesaver for me. Derek has been very informative and has listened to all my concerns before doing any work on my car. I highly recommend.
This shop SCAMS people out of money. Do NOT leave your car with them. Once they had my car and gave me the estimate, the price to the fix kept changing and they kept calling me to push me to do a super expensive fix. They were extremely unprofessional and lied about what they told to fix. They fixed a bunch of things that I never asked for and the they actually never fixed the main problem my car had, one day after getting home the engine and hev light turned on again and now they were telling me I needed to replace my hybrid battery and wanted more money. I paid over 1000 dollars and my car still runs the same. They asked me to take my car back, they had the nerve to ask me to pay an extra 180 for the diagnosis again after i spend so much money already and a day after my car runs the same. Please again don’t go there your money will be stolen!
Went to another place close by here and they tried to scam me. I called Ray's and Ali was upfront and honest and helped me get the work done that was needed without trying to play games and get it covered by my warranty. He also showed me the old parts replaced. Thank you for being honest and helpful and getting my car back in good working order...
I had my car towed to them a little over a week ago late on Saturday and met Ali , the shop owner, who waited a bit after to make sure my car was secured before shop closed. The work that was done was great and under my budget. After getting picking up my car he mentioned to me that my window didn't roll up and i mentioned that it was able to before it was towed. Although he couldn't test it prior to me bringing it to him he took the time to check it and fix it before my car left his shop with out cost. I find this type of business practice hard to find and i now know there is some still good businesses out there that treat the customer right. Thanks Guys my car is still running great.
This place is a gem and I have waited quite some time to write this review as I have gotten my car serviced here since 08/2019! Ali, the shop owner is honest, professional, punctual, and extremely thorough. As a female who doesn’t know much about cars I really appreciated their honesty and the fact that they aren’t trying to upsell their services.
I came across this shop when I brought in my vehicle for a second opinion as another shop had given me an estimate that was extremely high. Ali and his crew provided an estimate for issues that needed to be addressed right away and other issues (defined by the other shop as urgent) that can wait. Ever since my initial encounter with Ray’s Auto I have never looked elsewhere to service both my 2016 Lexus IS and 2017 Porsche Macan.
This is the kind of business that you want to support. Excellent, high-quality work on my car and at a very reasonable cost. It is hard enough to afford to live in the Bay Area and they work with you and tell you what you need to keep your car running on the road safely and not more. I called Ali in order to schedule a tune up/inspection of I car I had recently purchased. He was able to get me in the next morning. He quickly called me with a reasonable quote for some general maintenance that was necessary. Was able to do all the work and have my car ready for me that day. Very straight forward and transparent. Would recommend!
