Chris is truly one of the poorest mechanics in town and he's the owner of this garage. Firstly, he was pushing a $900 solution that was eventually unnecessary. Secondly, they gave us a loaner that BROKE DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, ENDANGERING OUR LIVES and reeked of cigarette smoke, and had junk on the backseat. He also didn’t know how to properly tow our 4WD initially. He's also extremely inattentive and when his loaner had us stranded on the side of the highway he was too busy to send a tow truck. He did not end up fixing our car at all because he apparently had more important things to do. After I made several angry phone calls, his receptionist ended up just disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, which was something that he could've done instead of towing the car and leaving us with a $500 charge to start with. If we had gone with his suggestions, we would've ended up having to pay $1400 for such a simple issue. Would not ever recommend this garage. They also had a very nonchalant attitude towards all of this until we showed them how clearly angry we were.
Chestnut Auto Repairs & Towing provided excellent and reliable service. The staff was professional, honest, and very helpful. They diagnosed the issue quickly and explained everything clearly before starting the work. The repair was done efficiently, and the towing service was prompt and stress-free. I’m very satisfied with their work and highly recommend them for auto repairs and towing services.

Last time, I came to repair my license plate, which had fallen off because I parked too close to the rolling door. I really appreciated the staff’s knowledge and warm service. This time, my tire pressure sensor light came on, and the staff helped me fill the air for free. I truly appreciate you.
Had my cv transaxle replaced,they found the part and it was fixed the same day.The woman in the office was helpful and knew her job so the mechanics didn't have to slow down ,in fact I never talked to anyone other than the lady in the office.That was probably why I was able to get it done the same day.
Alright I’m late on getting this review up but I wanted to make sure people know that I really appreciate Chestnut.
I had this huge Chevy 3500 Duramax Dually truck and had both of my driver side rear tires blow at the same time so I got stuck on the side of 101. I called three different tow services before I got to Chestnut and they were all ready to gouge me for a flatbed. Chestnut was the only one that had a reasonable price and a truck that could fit MY truck
They came out super fast the moment I said yes to the quoted price, literally less than half an hour from when I dialed their number. They towed me to their shop and by the time we got there they had the tires ordered, delivered, and waiting to be installed.
The pricing was extremely fair, beating out every other tow truck company, and was also fair for the tire installation job. Chris even discounted it a bit for me. Office staff were very polite but also down to earth. REAL PEOPLE, NOT LIKE MACHINES OR AI. Comfortable chairs in the waiting area and it’s a bonus that McDonald’s is across the street for a quick bite while waiting
I only found out later that Cherry Limo and Chestnut Auto are related to eachother, another business that left me super happy. The owners are brothers
I’m very satisfied with their service and how efficient they were to getting me back on the road in a timely fashion. They’re my regular trusted mechanic now who I go to for all my inspections and maintenance and i’ve been happy every single time.
Chestnut Automotive sent me a text asking how my car is going. I replied back that my headlight is out, so they booked an appointment for me the following day. In the time it took for me to check in, they had already diagnosed my car and luckily had the replacement bulb I needed. I was in and out of the shop in less than 30 minutes. They truly look after their customers.
We did the battery change ourselves yesterday, but couldn’t fully tighten the screws, so we drove by—and the staff here were super nice! They didn’t charge us anything, finished the job very professionally, and even found some new screws and nuts for us. The front desk lady and mechanic are very friendly and professional. :) Highly recommend!
I'm very satisfied with the work I had done @ Chestnut Auto Repairs & Towing ! I had them Tow Troubleshoot & Repair a 1989 Winnebago Lesharo, wich, anybody that owns one knows, they R very difficult 2 find parts 4 & harder 2 find someone 2 work on them ... They not only diagnosed the problem, they found the new Egr valve, installed it, and found all new tune up parts! Wich included the Plugs, Wires, Cap & Rottor, Fuel Filter, & the Air Filter ! So they towed away my non-running, favorite, RV and fixed it when Noone else would, and its starting and running 2 this day! So "Thanks Chestnut Auto" ... great job !
When my 2006 Toyota Prius would not start, Chestnut Auto In Redwood City came to my home in San Mateo to jumpstart it on a Saturday afternoon. Toyota indicated it was too late to send somebody over to jumpstart my car even though they are just a half mile from my home, and they wouldn’t be able to look at it until Monday.
Chestnut Auto also provided a free loaner car, which was a cute VW bug with 137,000 miles, and all the character a car could ever dream of. Chestnut determined that I needed a new auxiliary battery and by Monday afternoon, my Prius was ready.

Super friendly and knowledgeable! I am from out of state and needed a simple but critical fix on my diesel Chevrolet. They got me in immediately on a Saturday morning, didn’t upsell me, and I was on my way in less than an hour.
The shop is great in everything. I will revisit again. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because it missed out on quality control step after its service. I brought in my car to place two rear tires. Whoever did the job simply replacing the tires without checking tire pressure or anything else. Four tires all should be at 44. 38, 41, 47,47 tells me nobody checked the work . Hope this helps.

My car wouldn't start and they came out promptly for a tow. In just a few hours, they had a clear diagnosis and I was appropriately charged for only what was needed. They will continue to be my trustworthy auto shop.
They did the work before giving me an estimate and wanted to over charge me for everything. For example they wanted to charge $133 for a cabin air filter and $6k for repairs that were not needed.

I recently brought in my car for repairs involving a dent, broken fender, repainting, etc., and the folks at Chestnut did an EXCELLENT job quickly. I was very impressed in regards to the computer pic of my vehicle and the issues involved. I know enough about trucks and ball joints,etc. Very through and the final price was 700 dollars less than the first quote I recieved.. Cozy atmosphere. I called on Wednesday needing an emergency fix for a road trip on Friday; from the tone I called to see if they could fit me in to the time I drove away with a roadworthy car was around two hours. They might not always be this fast, but knowledgeable and professional staff, willingness to accommodate, and a pleasant, family atmosphere made this the best car maintenance experience I've had in forty years. I look forward to working with them in the future.

I got my oil changed while I waited which really impressed me! It’s a large, clean, organized shop that takes great care of your vehicle, and they won me over. I’ll be getting my 30,000 mile tune up there very shortly!
I was 149 miles from home. They were the only shop that would plug a hole in my tire, without trying to sell me new rubber all around. Then to my surprise, the cost was VERY reasonable. Customer service was exemplary.
My experience with Chestnut Auto repair was very positive. I had initially taken my car to the dealership but ran into some problems with them honoring my third person warranty and as a result and reading the positive reviews I ended up choosing Chestnut Auto repair. I had my car towed there and they were more than helpful in working with my warranty company and me and very considerate of my situation as I was not in the best place financially yet it was important that my car get fixed. In my opinion they went the extra mile that probably most places would not have done. I appreciated how much they kept in touch with me as repairs were being made and very happy with the results. I highly recommend considering using Chestnut Auto repair as they were very easy to work with and we're a very friendly and understanding staff.
Context- my car got into accident and it required the bumper to be changed and quarter panel to be repaired, which was preexisting damaged. In panic , I called the nearest towing and repaired shop, which happened to be Chestnut Auto, and right from the beginning, I was provided the right support and care be it showing compassion to calm me down or being understanding of my unique insurance situation and providing me with the most reasonable and economical course of action for repairs. Needless to say that job done by the folks to restore my car was incredible and I am very impressed with the work! Thank you!
So glad I found this shop; thorough, reliable, reasonable. They do a complete checkup for $250 and credit you $100 if they do the repair. Get the check-up! In the month prior to using their service, I had oil changed, my tires rotated, a flat fixed, all four tire pressure sensors replaced, missing and broken lugs replaced on all four wheels. Car up in the air, all wheels off in three different shops, including the Subaru dealer, but no one noticed that the front suspension control arms were worn, until I came to Chestnut Auto for completely different service. Grateful that they were so thorough, perhaps saving me from a bad situation. I'll be using them from now on for all my auto maintenance.
I planned on handling my own tune-up and radiator fluid treatment but when I saw how much I'd have to remove to reach the spark plugs, I decided to let pros handle the work. I contacted Chestnut Auto and that got me in within an hour of the call. The inspection of my vehicle was quick, and within 30 minutes I was advised that my radiator had a leak. I asked them to replace the radiator, and they went out, found the parts, and had it replaced the same day, along with the tune up and other things I asked them to do. The work was good quality and the communication was excellent.
I'll add they use an online system to send quotes for repairs, and you can authorize the repairs online as well. Very convenient. When I picked up my truck, they informed me that the next work I'd need to have done was replacing the control arms. They provided pictures to show me what the problem was. They were very thorough, and I believe their charges were reasonable, considering all the work they did.
I had a unique issue with my car, plus it needed a standard service. After calling several places, Chris and Pam were the only people who understood the issue and were able to walk me through the options. When it came time to get everything sorted out, I was booked in for the next day and a full service plus repairs were completed within that day. They went above and beyond to address a problem that other shops had no experience with, the pricing was great, and I’m really thankful for their expertise and professionalism. Highly recommend to others and will definitely back.
I had my door hit by another car, see picture attached. It was quoted $7k-8k from couple Tesla collision center. The quotes included some unnecessary repair such as repainting car. I found a complete 2nd hand direct oem door replacement from used tesla parts in LA. I had called several body mechanics not willing to work with 2nd hand install, however at chestnut working with Tom and Carrie willing to install 2nd hand parts! Provided that they don’t have to deal directly with the insurance. They told me if the insurance involved they typically not willing to install 2nd hand parts. Took all these install less than 3 days waiting for parts shipped and maybe a day of work itself($1500 or so for install and reprogramming), parts were purchased separately ($1800 door window glass) Two thumbs ups for chestnut willing to work with customer!! Save some $$$ and time!! In my case, if I’d gone to use others would take weeks waiting for tesla parts and longer repair with unnecessary work done to the car. Thank you chestnuts auto repair!
