What clients say about Yolo County Central Landfill in Woodlands (CA)

I’m giving this place 3 star because of the way the scrap metal employee treated people. Most of the landfill employees are nice, and overall it can be a good place. However, the employee in the scrap metal area was one of the worst. She seemed mad at all of us for simply showing up, like we ruined her day. She needs training on how to talk to people. We don’t work for her, and everyone deserves basic respect.

This place is a very good recycling center. Super nice employees and very reasonable garbage dump fee.

In and out in under 5 minutes! Pulled in, sat in car, and the team took my old gas right from my trunk. They even brought back my empty jug. Not all sites do this. TIP: For Hazardous Waste disposal, like old gasoline, use the left lane! (Huge line on Saturday in the right lane for landfill drop-off). Don't make my mistake and sit in that line stretching down the county road!

Minimum 1 to 2 hour wait to dump, they need to invest in some more scales and stuff. Slowest landfill in the area.

Staff was informative and courteous. Don't be in a hurry to just dump, somethings need to be separated like tires, electronics, etc. One more thing, ask for a cost sheet for next time.

Great place to be able to have donations recycled and sold in stead of adding to the landfill. The Big Blue Barn!

Fairly easy to access but if you're coming from Sacramento you'll need to cross the I80 causeway, which can be hit or miss with traffic and construction. Once you get the landfill it's pretty simple to navigate - go to the left of the building if you have a large load, or the the right if smaller. The rate was about $13 for a car/small load, or closer to $23-35 for a full sized/fully packed truck/suv. Recycling is free and there are special areas and charges if you're bringing appliances, ACs, electronics, liquids, or other items. The staff will direct you to the right places and there are lots of signs. For general garbage for example, you follow the green signs to the top of the designated hill. There will be a person at the top to check your receipt and then direct you to a spot to empty your vehicle. The road at the top is dirt with scattered debris around the unloading point so you'll want to be really careful if you're tires aren't good. Overall the process was pretty simple and I made several trips as we cleaned out a basement.

It's a good place to dispose of garbage and debris. However, there's sometimes a lack of communication between the main office and the disposal areas. For example, the office might direct you to one spot for part of your load, but when you arrive, such as on the hill for garbage, the staff might say you've dumped it in the wrong place—even though you followed the office's instructions, and the same person directed you to dispose of that part of your load in their area. I also find it ironic that there are "NO SALVAGING" signs everywhere, yet they operate a thrift store selling salvaged items. If you're disposing of electronics, especially computers, be sure to destroy them, as they often resell these items for profit.

We took two mattresses out there to the Yolo county dump and there was no charge as somebody else had dump on our property and I guess they didn't want to pay but there was no charge.

I don’t know how but it takes me over 30 minutes to enter and over 30 minutes to leave, I’ve never seen the service be this slow before. Last year it was fast but this year it’s unreadably slow. I don’t know how it takes 5 minutes to weigh each truck

So much to offer! -The Recycle Reuse shed on Thursdays and Saturdays til 330pm. Great place to get cleaning supplies, paint and wood stains, pool/spa stuff, and all kinds of pesticides, fertilizers, and garden supplies. -Textile Recycling bin for those torn/stained clothes and sheets you would have thrown in the trash. Last but not least: The Big Blue Barn Thrift store has so much to offer both inside and outside. It's a treasure hunt. Clean and organized, sometimes dusty, but always interesting finds.

I went there to drop off some woods. The workers are friendly, the place is organized, the price is fair and it is fast to drop off.

Just FYI I sat in the wrong line for about 5 minutes until another small truck pulled up. I wasn't aware they had two lines. One is for trucks that get weighted and then the other is for a flat rate. If it was posted I didn't see it. Other then that I was out of there quickly.

Smells like roses, the decor is just stunning and the service is top notch. I wouldn't take my trash anywhere else. Everyone I have met is friendly and points you in the right direction. This is absolutely a first date destination. Mind the birds though. But, they do their best to deter the pesky birds from ruining your five star experience with a scare the pants off you explosion once in a while to scare them away. No, you didn't pop a tire, it was just them scaring away the birds. Prices are fair and the experience is one of a kind. 10 out of 10 highly recommend.

What a great way to recycle items and prevent them from ending up in the ground. There are a lot of bargains to be found but only one Friday & Saturday pee month. Everyone I met was friendly both Staff and Shoppers. I know I am going back for more bargains.

Fantastic resource for the community. We especially love the hours for free household hazardous waste. Blue Barn thrift shop is great to wander through and see what you can find.

Been going to the yolo landfill for about 40 years now, possibly 45, my mom and I sang a special dump song on the way when we went. Always great service, and the site is extremely well maintained. And Jorge is the BEST! I like to call him Gorgeous George, I'm pretty sure he loves it. (OK, perhaps not)

Easy Drive up service for your household hazardous waste. (Be sure to take a left as you enter past the main entrance. No need to get in line for the main landfill.) They make it as easy as possible to encourage people to dispose of their stuff properly. Oil, antifreeze, used camping propane tanks, batteries, all types of electronics. Its a little out of the way, just hold on to ur HHW and maybe even tell your neighbors you're making a run to make it extra worth the trip.

I live on some acreage, we generate waste but not pesticide waste. I work for a large corporation, we generate waste and pesticide waste. The County is diligent to inspect our refuse before it's discarded and separation is mandatory.

I went there to dispose of an old florence light tube. The household hazardous waste disposal is only open on Fridays and Saturdays. The people working there were nice and helpful. You are supposed to stay in your car and they come to help you. Ware a mask and help keep everyone safe.

I was quite a bit nervous about bringing an old mattress and box spring here, as it was my first time going. Although it looks a little intimidating, everyone was really nice & helpful here, and it was a really easy process. by the way, recycling mattresses and box springs is absolutely FREE every day!

Every staff member we encountered was courteous and patient. I’m sure being asked the same questions every day multiple times a day can get old but everyone was helpful and polite.

i thought prices were great till i had to shovel my own yard mulch into my trailer. no where on the site does it say if you have a covered trailer , your mulch will not be loaded. The lazy, round, mean looking lady at the gate didnt even want to let me use a shovel......probably wont go to this landfill again...

People are nice, charges are reasonable, but they need to modernize. Burying trash has got to stop and the wood chips aren't worth it. Their prices are the same or more as a box store or a lansdcape supply but the quality is lower and there are bits of trash in it and they don't have the right equipment to load a truck bed.

Very friendly and helpful employees. Easy in, easy out for dropping of scrap wood. Early hours, open weekdays at 6:30 am.
