What clients say about Bucks Lake Resort & Hotel in East Quincy (CA)

Go back in time to 1978, we called at a fishing shop in Quincy and the owner pointed us to Bucks Lake. The owner was actually closing at the time but allowed us to use a boat to fish free of charge and we spent three days there which we will never forget. A long time friend from California just sent some details of fishing along the North Fork which prompted me to pull up Bucks Lake and I was delighted to see it is still doing trade and folks are enjoying being there. We live in the UK and this was our first visit to California.

I visited last year and always meant to write this review, but now I have hiker friends in the area who can use the info so here it goes. I paid an exorbitant amount of money for the last room available. I get to the room, drop my backpack, and proceed directly to the shower. The water poured out red. I went back to the office where they told me they had just had the pipe fixed and to just let the water run. Why they didn't do that before guests arrived is anyone's guess. Upon returning I noticed the room hadn't been cleaned. It also had no TV or air conditioning. Walked back to the office and was given another room immediately. Interesting. The new room had a TV that wasn't attached to anything, still no AC, but it was clean. Oh, and blankets aren't included in the room rental price. The water ran red for half an hour but I finally got my shower. Come to find out there was only a few rooms occupied mostly by a large family. Constantly lied to, terrible amenities, terrible service, overpriced.

I booked a weekend at bucks lake lodge for 4th of july to celebrate my daughter's birthday with my family. After reserving a cabin at the lodge I looked at the reviews tried to call the Woman we booked with and cancel but no answer after we asked her for up to date pictures. Luckily bucks lake marina answered. I asked them about cabins since I had a boat rental from them and they said they were full. I called back the next day spoke with Ethan and he told me his boss duwit would call me back the next day. He did, he got us 2 cabins the day before we were gunna head down there.. I'm so happy duwit was able to get us in with them! We had a great weekend over all and the boat rental was also great. The staff was all very nice:) I will definitely come back it's a beautiful place.

We had a wonderful time but the lodge itself...think twice. The people in charge were absolutely wonderful though.

We love Louie and Becky and always stop in for a meal, drinks, a good visit, and maybe a game or two of pool. A popular place for generations where you can also rent cabins and stay for a rest at the lake.

Lou and Rebecca are the nicest people and the food is always delicious, and this girl who I think works there has bangin hair and seems real awesome and cleans the rooms and cabins real good and the guy who works for Lou is a damn good worker!

Service here was friendly and curteous. Selection was good. I liked the cozy atmosphere here and even took a midnight dip in the warm waters of Bucks lake next to the lodge!

My daughters and I went to Bucks Lake Lodge not knowing what to expect. We just wanted to spend some quality time together. What we didn’t realize is we would be making new family members. We had the best time, it was exactly what I wanted for a trip with my girls. I wanted us to get away from the hustle and bustle of southern Cal and this was the perfect place. The restaurant serves amazing food and I highly recommended the fish tacos great job on those Lou !! I want to give a shout out and a huge thanks to our new family members. Lou, Rebecca, Marsha, Vanessa and Monique. Thank you all for making our vacation perfect!! To all of you thinking of a stress free vacation go to Bucks Lake Lodge !!

They serve awesome food and drinks! Everyone here is very friendly and it is a great atmosphere! There is some outdoor seating and it's so nice to breath in that fresh mountain air and enjoy the nature around you! If your looking for a strong drink, their specialty is a "Tree Smacker". So far everything I have eaten up there has been excellent, my favorites have been the fish tacos or prime rib dinner.

Best service ever received at a lakeside mountain resort. Ordered fish tacos and a tree smacker.... best lunch I've had in years. Will definitely be back.

Went by several times viewing an "Open" sign but no one was there. When finally did get inside the bar, the drinks were awful with low grade liquor which may explain why there were no other patrons there the entire time. After viewing the cabins we decided to leave. Their cabins are in bad repair and may need to be condemned.

I've been going to Bucks Lake for over 10 years. I'm glad to see the lodge still up and running.

Did not stay overnight but stopped in for dinner. Pets are welcome on the patio, fresh from scratch food. Had the fish tacos and prime rib. Full of fresh flavor and seasoned just right. Will stop by again and suggest you give them a try :)

Staff is friendly and nice, but the "motel" has some problems. Roof is in disrepair, many of the rooms appear to be out of service. Water leaking out from under the exterior wall. Pepsi machine inoperable. Room was reasonably clean with clean laundry, but had a very musty, old smell to the unit. Shower had some blue stuff that had been spilled all over it and the shower curtain. Lodge advertises breakfast, but doesn't open until 11:30 am this time of year and closes as 7. And closed on Mondays. Ghost town after 7. The place has potential, but it doesn't look like they have the money or ambition to improve it. I would never return to stay. Maybe fish the lake but not stay at the lodge.

There was not a recent review so I hoped when the arrangements were booked that things had improved in the past two years. To my chagrin it hasn't. A two star establishment you expect a simple/ rustic experience. There is a huge difference between simple/ rustic and dirty. The cabins and hotel fall under the dirty. From stained up carpets, dust bunnies in the corners, cobwebs on the ceilings, stains on the linens, grease buildup in the sink, to name a few. The operators are very nice, that being said their management style is very disorganized and lacking. There is so much potential for this place but they have to get their act together. First off they rented out our cabin to their previous guest so she could sleep off her weekend. Apparently they book by computer log and handwritten log. Whomever made our reservation logged it in the computer but not the book so another person double booked. They made good on their mistake and compensated us. So for a night we stayed in their hotel. The next day we are finally able to get our cabin. But with keys being " lost" and then finding out the operators put them in differing areas and fail to communicate it to each other it creates a hassle for their guests who just want to relax. I can go on, but Its the same stuff just different things. Again, I want to clarify that they are a very friendly establishment. But if they do not fix their management style they will fail. I do not recommend this establishment.

Really... Really? I'm all for rustic charm, but these cabins felt like someone had crawled in the corner to die on the carpet. Taking a shower practically flooded the bathrooms. I was so thankful I brought my own sleeping bag because the whole cabin just felt dirty. The lodge was nice and new, but the cabins were such a waste of money. I kicked myself for not just taking the kids tent camping.

Just got back from Bucks Lake Lodge, and what a FANTASTIC time we had. Owners, Louie and Rebecca, do a wonderful job creating a fun and friendly atmosphere and all the members on their staff were great.||The food is excellent. The prime rib dinner is the best I have ever had and for a great burger try the King Louie, you wont be sorry. From the sauces to the salsas everything is made from scratch. Unlike most Chefs, Louie is more than happy to share his special recipes with the friends of Bucks Lake Lodge. ||The cabins are circa 1929. If you think about the years of service they have provided, from the early miners, forestry and dam builders to the thousands of vacationers, hunters, and snowmobilers, it easy to overlook the 84 years of repairs. They have everything you need to be comfortable; stove, fridge, shower, bedding etc. ||Whether you want to experience the abundance of outdoor activities or have a drink at their beautiful bar, this is the place to be. Have a chat with Louie, he always has a fun story and tells it in the most animated way. Remember one thing, Louie doesnt lie, he just tells really great stories. ;-) We will be back!

The cabin they gave us at first was tiny, dark, and very dirty, and the toilet wasn't anchored to the floor. When we complained, they gave us a cabin that was bigger, but the floors, toilet and stove were dirty. The shower was clogged; when we reported that, they promised Drano, but never brought it. The bar across the the street, as well as the cabin next door, was noisy noisy noisy.||We met some people on a hike who told us those places have been bad for many years. We left one night before we planned to. Yuck!
