This place is truly unique. A surrealistic place with a dystopian vibe. I was there early January. There was a flood a few days before I got there, so on my pictures you can observe how muddy it was. I love how the community that lives there take care of each other and how open minded they are. It is refreshing to be in a place where people won't judge your appearance, where deep conversations flow effortless. It's a place where you can be immersed in abstraction thoughts.

Cool art work left on the abandoned beach resort. I parked on the beach itself, I probably wouldn't recommend parking there after/during the rain though, looks risky for getting stuck. There are at least a couple of restaurants from what I could see in the neighborhood and people actually live in the neighborhood by the beach. Lots of cars parked on the beach, some seem to be staying overnight or a few days. Seems safe and chill during the day, no hobos or addicts when I visited.

Weird, sad, and interesting place. Visited in 2016 and back in 2025 and somehow found the same places to recreate photos and it's drastic how much water has evaporated in a little over 9.5 years. But I can see how crazy beautiful this place would have been in the 50s-70s. There are some great YouTube documentaries on the Salton Sea that will give you the history and current issues. Definitely worth a stop.

The Bombay Beach town / resort / ruins should be approached from the artistic mindset. The town is a run down area with some folks still living there and minimal facilities. As far as the beach is concerned there aren't really any ruins and what you will find is a number of free standing art installations as well as beach campers and free spirits. Loved the experience and did it as a solo trip, which I recommend, since it let's you just observe and experience. Also don't forget that other than Bombay Beach there are a number of other abandoned places to visit around the Salton Sea.

Worth the drive. Went in May 2025 the temp were high 90s to low 100s. It was not too hot but beta to use sunscreen. It's like an open air museum. It might be better at night when it's not hot and the solar lights at each exhibit turn on. The view of the stars will probably make the photos more breathtaking. You can climb on exhibits but just be mindful and respectful. It was not crowded. There were people around but you can have a solo time with each one to take photos because there are so many the the beach was so wide.

One of my favorite places to camp! Please remember that Bombay Beach is mainly private property… Please don’t ruin it for the rest of us by trashing it and destroying the beautiful art. I recommend checking out the ski Inn as well as Bombay drive-in

Great pieces of art some of which as meant to be art and others which have become art due to the receding water. The dock to nowhere and the paddle boats in the mud were quite amusing. We saw a SUV stuck in the mud so do NOT drive off the hard flat surfaces unless you want to get stuck.

I was shocked when I found out about this place. We came to Palm Springs for new year during covid and got a car rental to drive places around. The first day we drove all the way to the border (Mexicali) and Calexico to remember when I lived there back in 2010. On our way back to PS we took CA-111 and the name sounded interesting. Once we drove through it and discovered this unique place I loved it. i am not sure who designed everything but what I can say is that this person(s) are very talented. This place brings good memories when my now late husband was with me.

Hesitated to come here at first because it looks like something straight out of a thriller movie but glad I did! Had no idea this place even existed but I was happy to appreciate the unique and witty art. It’s a tragedy but I’m confident this place would’ve been a hit if maintained correctly from the beginning. I know a lot of people talked about the fishy smell but it wasn’t so bad at that time. Very eery but beautiful. Went in my Civic but I recommend going in a bigger car.

Bombay Beach is one of the most unique places I’ve ever been. It’s chock full of interesting and interactive art pieces, not just along the beach, but also all over town. While it can be a little stinky walking along the water, it’s totally worth the exploration ☺️ Happy trails!

Awesome place to stop! People mention a smell, and it’s not bad enough that it should stop anyone from going. You only really notice it maybe 50 yards from the water where it’s strongest. But most of the cool stuff is far enough away that we were hardly bothered/hardly noticed it. Go check it out and walk around, tonnes of cool art fixtures to check out and take pictures with. Also There’s a few access points to the beach area, following to the one pinned was good though. From there you can further drive around to see a lot of the art.

Strange place with neat artwork. There is a smell sometimes, so be prepared. Sand can get deep and wet near the shoreline, so be careful or you might get stuck. There is a cell signal here and even a few campers.

This place was awesome, if you are into old abandoned very strange places. Loved the artwork and general feel of the place. The graffiti was awesome as well. This was one stop on an 11 day first time california vacation with my son. You could hardly tell some of the inhabited places from the abandoned ones. The beach walk was the best, tho the smell close to the water and corpse Beach was pretty bad. I found the whole thing fascinating...even stopped in the local store. I regret now not going into the bar, but overall I loved this. I would Def stop again, we spent hours exploring the beach art and ruins.

Unique place with something different and surprising around every turn. I won't spoil too much with pictures but just give a taste of the artwork that can be found. You can easily spend several hours to half a day exploring the town and beach. Be cautious driving on the beach without 4W/AWD; you can easily get stuck in sand and need towing; there are also many ledges you can drop off.

To describe this in a few words… Artsy Apocalyptic Decay. The beach area is scattered with interesting photo ops of man made art and natural decay. Living quarters prior still seems to have some residents inhabiting the area. Cool place to visit.

Excellent if you like odd desert areas with lots of strange items. The 'town' I found even more interesting, I suggest you drive around slowly. If weird strange is not your bag pass on this. Great bar on the way in

I’ve heard a lot about Salton Sea and this abandoned wasteland. I decided to visit this place on my trip to Palm Springs, to look at some of the beautiful pieces of art. It’s a long drive but when we got there around 4PM we could not find anyone in the neighborhood except some people in the Skiin bar. It’s sad to see this place as it is now and I certainly hope someday it will change. If you want to visit, I would say to visit it in late morning or early afternoon.

If you’re looking for weird and wacky this is a place to come. Some of these relics you have to look at pretty close to understand what they are but certainly creative by the builder. They’re spread out along the beach but if you drive out there be careful you may need a four-wheel-drive the sand gets pretty soft. I really enjoyed the ingenuity of some of these displays in our utilize junk to put it together. If you’re in the area I drive through Bombay Beach it’s worth it and don’t miss the ruins.

Very unique place that you could easily spend hours exploring. We went for the first time in 2021 and came back again with my daughter to show her around. A few of the sights had changed since last year but I expect that's normal for some of the artistic expressions. If you visit be sure to walk down to the waterfront area and the ruins of the resort as well as driving the streets to see some of the interesting residences, sculpture and art. The smell isn't great down by the water but don't let that keep you away. It's a reasonably easy drive from LA or San Diego and definitely worth making the trip.

Amazing weird spot to stop. Wonderful modern art sculptures. Make sure to grab your copy of the surreal times , it's got some of the best articles you'll read. I would stay away if it was a windy day though, as the soil is supposed to be somewhat toxic. Definitely a cool spot to stop.

Truly an amazing gem. The history and the ever changing artist installations are always the reason for my return. I try to explore this location annually as it always surprises me with new things to explore. If you made it to this location, might as well check out “salvation mountain” and “east Jesus” Have fun exploring

Very cool!! I had no idea about this place and was very excited to see neat sculptures all around. Some of them were super cool some were a bit eerie. I didn't personally see any dead fish, but did see and walk on lots of barnacles. It's definitely worth the trip if you like off the beaten path!

This place is mesmerizing. We drove 3 hours to get there from San Diego. The ruins and graffiti were amazing. We took plenty of artsy pictures. We will be going back again this summer.
