Don't bring your scrap metal here.
I called ahead of time and they told me to separate my aluminum from steel. I did hoping that I would get the correct amount of money for my hard work. I had a lot of aluminum. They weighed everything did not separate anything and gave me $29 total for 600 lbs, five hundred pounds was aluminum and they gave me bulk steel price. What a ripoff.
From an employee perspective, this company is what you look for when thinking of a long term job. With great health benefits, 401k, pto, etc. Many positions to offer with competitive pay as well as a work life balance.
We were there 2 weeks ago. The guy running the scale would not allow us in the scale house. When we checked out and got home we reviewed the ticket and totals. We were cheated by some money. When I called the owner said he would talk to the scale guy about it. Never heard anything back from him. We were owed a lot more money than was put on the sheet. We have been using this place for at least 20 years. Thinking about finding a new salvage yard.
We are not the only ones who were cheated. Very disappointed with the owners.
The guy who has the office directly to the right as soon as you walk in the building that is located at the large scale is unprofessional and arrogant. He has zero customer service skills. I would recommend using a more professional business.
Was there today took 1500 pounds half sheet natal and half angle iron. Told me to off load it all I went back to weigh and they seemed irritated that I came back through told me I didn’t weigh out before I off loaded the second time so they weren’t paying me the full amount…. Sorry desert metals been doing business here for ten years and I don’t think I’ll be returning next time been watching this place decline and it doesn’t seem like things will ever change
Unfortunately you will not see me back due to your response for my last review!clearly someone in the office is trying to cover their behind!and hopefully the owner will see this! Do not act like I was trying to sell you "dirty transmission s"when I clearly stated "transmission cases "!as in the outer shell of the transmission!I even offered to show you! But it seems you didn't want to be bothered by the little weight!,as you stated.clean cast aluminum is a clear term I will be taking my little thousand pounds of clean cast elsewhere!,others, if you have to go here get past the office help and talk to management, hopefully your experience won't be as bad as mine was
I am not one to leave a review, however, I have to say that the lady in the office is VERY RUDE & NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE or plays favorites with her customers, Their website lists the cast aluminum price at $0.40/lb. But she was only going to pay $0.12/lb. Whe. I questioned why she just kept saying "Yep, twelve cents. Yep!"

This is the first time that I've went to recycle at desert metals recycling and did not have the gentleman Mike. He's always sure to be honest and make sure that he does good business for people. Today he could not help me. Another man helps me that was not honest. I'm very disappointed that desert metals has show me this side of them, because that is the main thing to look out for when looking for a scrapyard. They put #2 ins as low-grade when it was not. There was only a few wires on top that were. The rest was internet cable that they gave me #2 ins last time I was there. A price difference of about a dollar a lb. They gave me a second line of low grade #2 ins of 3 lbs. This was #1 ins copper. Thick for houses Romex. I have been robbed about 20$-25$. It's sad. I worked so very hard to get my scraps honestly. And to be robbed... huge disappointment. I LOVED THIS SCRAP YARD AND SWORE BY THEM. Times are hard and honest scrappers cannot afford to be robbed
Not for even $1. I recommend letting the thief go home and stay there. He will no doubt lose you many more customers. And now I have no idea what scrap yard to start going to.... :'(
I take my scrap there all the time wish they would pay more for sheet metal but it is what it is but I would recommend this place better then the other place on ajo they act like there doing you a favor
If I could put 0 stars I would. The absolute worst managment ever. The workers are great but Goldstein I think was his name. Hopefully I completely misspelled that name. Completely disrespectful and rude. Unreal he's in charge around there, if you can recycle somewhere else then do yourself a favor and do it cause WOW!
Desert metals is a good place to bring your high dollar metals like brass and copper and cast aluminums. They usually pay the higher prices but you got to have your stuff clean no little hidden pieces you try and forget to get off. I like going there for the brass shells I find out in the desert.
Once you figure out how it goes (the process) getting weighed,, getting your tickets,,getting paid etc. It's probably the easiest scrap yard I've ever been to.
Best prices in town. Mike does an excellent job running the small scale and has great customer service skills. He is a true asset to the team. As a customer for 10 years I can easily recommend to anyone looking for the best scrapyard in Tucson.. Thanks again

Always treated fairly here. Found some nice items in the repurpose pile. Always nice when I don't have to pay full price for any of the metal I use for my projects
Very friendly ,nice, professional people that know how to do their job effectively and quickly with zero mistakes...this is the place to go, ill definately use Desert Metals always.
Dishonest business. Called for pricing on metals, but then paid a different price at the counter. Also, if you have good clean aluminum, but have a couple steel hard to remove bolts (or 1 rubber gasket), they call the whole thing dirty aluminum (or they "estimate" dirty weight). Then, I asked why the price was different from quote on phone, but he said they have been paying that price for a while. So I asked him, why don't u post your prices online? He said, "market prices change daily". Do I need to say more?
