What clients say about Mt Olive Landfill in Gardendale (AL)
-
Jefferson County Commissioners made a mistake giving our landfill to private interests. The place now houses every god forsaken thing from other states that weren’t allowed to be disposed of there. It’s sad. Maybe leadership one day will remedy this before Mt Olive is a giant pile of hazardous waste. Time is running out.

If I could give zero stars I would! They have a sign with set hours as well as hours on their website, but when you arrive, they make up their own hours of when they close. We tried to go drop off at 11:20 on a Saturday (they state they close at 12 online and on their sign), but then when we pulled up we were told they stopped accepting at 11. This is not the first issue we have had here. Much prefer using the Hayden dump even thought the drive is inconvenient, because this one has rude, inconsistent workers.

Says they are open at 5am but for public it’s 7am…. I don’t got time to wait!

I knew that I absolutely had to leave a positive review, as I was being assisted by the lovely Lee. She was extremely patient with me, as a first time customer, who had a few questions. She was sure to ask me specific questions, to ensure that the informationshe was providing was, indeed, correct. She also gave me a few tips to make sure that we had zero hiccups during our visit(s). Excellent customer service 10/10 Highly recommend A+

It's easy enough to pay your $31 and unload your junk at a dedicated area. No muss, no fuss.

As I arrived to the point of entry upon the scales this blonde fair haired maiden requested my means of payment. I was told it could only be paid with card. I sighed in disbelief and then I died as the fabricater of truth told me it was $31.50. then she gave me faulty direction leading my broken soul to dump my 3 bags of garbage. *I wouldn't even leave 1 star if it hadn't made me.*

Better get there by 11:30 on Saturday. Even though they say they are open until 12 apparently if you come at 11:35 you can’t take a load in. They need to update their houra

Husband went there they charge him 200 dollars said the internet was down and could only take cash and it was exactly $200

For starters the lady up front sucks at giving directions. She wiggled her arm like a snake and said dont go up go right. I saw some dumpsters with a pile of trash so i assume thats what she meant and as i was about to dump it right there some employee yelled you cant dump there. That i had to go up the hill. Prices are wild 46 bucks for a trailer of trash 26 bucks for safety gear you're required to buy if you don't have a hardhat and a high vis vest 5 environmental fee And a 2 dollar "fuel recovery" fee With tax it was 80 bucks which to me wasn't worth it

This an add-on to an old review what's the point of having a sign that telling me the hours that you close at 12:00 and I get there at 11:42 and your closed maybe if you were the one throwing the stuff in the dumpster or at least doing anything while I was there pain to drop this trash off I don't understand but when you're not doing jack schitt but watching me do it you can't stay till 12:00 on the DOT that's just sad know why I'm paying more then I did last time I went i don't know why they have scales out there for them to weigh you as you come in and then weigh you when you go out as they should, to come up with a proper pricing that they're not using at all when I have somebody Shout out a dollar amount from a window it makes me think that I'm just giving somebody beer money or cigarette money to go dump trash off but hey that's how they like to run their stuff so be it

Very expensive, and unfriendly scale workers. Price goes up everytime you go. Edit - It was $13 when I wrote this. It's now $27! Edit again. It's now $31

ABSOLUTELY RIP OFF!! The last 2 times I used this place, they charged me over $30!!! All I had was some empty boxes and a few garbage bags in the bed of my truck. No trailer. Just a few things in the bed of my truck. That will be the very last time I use Mt. Olive Landfill. Because of this total rip off of a fee, I’m afraid we’re going to start seeing a lot of trash dumped illegally on the side of the road or on the side of the back roads. *** I hope not, but if so you can blame the county for overcharging people. You would think with this place price gouging us, they’d throw a few dollars towards fixing the massive holes in their road that will easily puncture a tire or certainly knock your front end out of line. Unless you have enough trash to make the $30 fee worth it, do NOT use this landfill!! Any reviews that have been posted with more than one star, obviously posted their review years ago. This is a dump of a dump!!

Make sure you call to verify they are open I got there at 4:45 because it shows 5:00 p.m. Is their closing time and they are actually not open. They close at 4.

My cash has printed on it "for all debts, public and private.." My Discover card wasn't accepted either! Thanks for wasting my time.

Just moved to Jefferson County from Blount. Loaded up my truck with a lot of boxes to dump. Drove to the landfill only to find out that they do not take cash or check. They take debit/credit, but not discover. Well, I guess I will never be able to take any trash there. Never heard of a business not even taking cash. Went back to Blount county where they take cash and check. Much easier and less mud. Welcome to Jefferson County.

This place is ridiculously expensive now. Not only that, what used to be a convenient drop off for hand-unload takes 3x longer with concrete barriers they added that make you walk 25 feet round trip with every handfull to carry garbage from a trailer
Aug 02, 2024 -
This is a racket. They charge almost $30 and now they’ve installed jersey barriers at the dump site so now you can’t back up and dump your trash. You have to haul it around the barriers, so God help you if you’ve got heavy items. No wonder I’ve started seeing so much more trash on the side of the road lately. To top it off, the employees could care less about anything. They’re like angry robots.

Pricing Sucks! For (1) couch, (2) ottomans, and some misc trash at a total of 0.29 tons they charged $42.72 + $5.00 Environmental Fee + $2.14 Fuel Recovery Fee for a toal of $49.86. Probably the main reason there is so much litter and trash on the side of the roads...

If you’re going to charge $27 for a single load of garbage, at least fix the truck-swallowing potholes. At least the staff is nice

Staff very nice and helpful. Very easy drop off. Got to drop our load off the wall. Didn't have to drive through the dirt/mud.

Been there forever and has changed ownership multiple times. Was able to drop by and easily dump off some stuff. Price was a bit steep but this is the only place I can do it because Gardendale City has the most ridiculous claw days ever. Can't time them at all

Price is ridiculously high. Went up 7.14 on you being able to dump household garbage. It now cost $21.14 to dump. No signs or anything just this is the cost pay it or not.

Sat in line 45 min just to get to the window and the rude old lady to tell me they don’t accept cash ! It’s not posted anywhere but when you get to the window thanks lady that hates her job for being real helpful

It is a great place to be able to throw out a truck bed full of trash and misc items. Even had a worker help me and my wife take things out and throw away was very much appreciated!! And for $13 a truck full was easily worth the price.

Place is a joke. Over priced. And they need to put on their sign “No dumping past 4:30” since they don’t tell you that till you get there at 4:30.

They take construction debris! Inbound scale and one of the windows on the building were broken, so weighing was more difficult than it should have been. Dump site was very accessible and relatively clean. Great pricing- about $36 for us to dump an 8 yard dump trailer full of construction debris.

Very nice people and great customer service! They have the best set up for residential customers cleaning out the garage and spring cleaning... I've seen....beats Birmingham and Moody by a mile. Very convenient area to dump ....under a shed to cover you when its raining! Way to go Mt.Olive Landfill....keep up the good works!👍

We haven’t lived in Alabama for a couple of years but are moving back. I have never lived in a place where the county owned landfill costs money to dump residential waste or recycling. We had four boxes to dispose of… Empty… And broken down, and they wanted to charge us $13. This can’t possibly be normal.
Dec 19, 2020 -
Make sure you wear boots. The site is muddy especially on rainy days. Also if you have a car or a smaller truck do not go on rainy days. You will get stuck

I hate that Jefferson county doesn’t have the land field anymore because since Santex took over that place has really went down. They can’t even keep a debit card machine working. Come on guys it’s 2019 we don’t carry cash anymore. They have the worse customer service I have ever seen I guess they hate their jobs. Not to mention the roads sux going in and it’s not kept up. I see trash all over the place. Like I said I know it’s a dump but Jefferson County keep the place up and all Santek does is go up on the price and let the place fall apart. I would think if you charge more it should’ve better but not the case there. I will drive to another land field before go back.
